Pretty nice. Wasn't a great throw by Braxton, but one hell of a catch. It took me a second when I was watching the game to realize it was actually a catch.

Nice execution of what I would consider a rather fundamental catch for a good/great wide receiver.

That's not a catch. He didn't complete the process.

Even got both feet down, not that it matters at this level.

Great catch but a bad pass. WR making a QB look good.

I'm surprised the refs didn't call it incomplete. They called every pass Miami caught incomplete all game long.

2012-09-02 02:26:43 PM
While I was in the stands (at that end even) and ecstatic that they called it complete, saying that it's the best catch of the season when it's only week one is like saying the hooker you paid to lose your virginity to was the best lay in history. Let's see how the rest of the hundreds of games go this season go and look back at it towards the end.

/it was certainly the turning point of the game though

Jake McGee made a one handed grab and flipped around to drag a foot in bounds- while still airborne. Picture here.

Pfffft. Try that weakass shiat against an SEC team and the defender outjumps that guy by 2 feet, takes it back the other way for a pick-6. After scoring he swallows the football then shiats out a solid gold Heisman trophy before the extra point team can even get on the field.

/or so I've been led to believe.

Including all the ones they flat out dropped! Don't blame the refs for guys who coulcn't catch a cold.

Too bad Denard didn't have that guy to throw to.

The thing I hated the most growing up near Columbus was the arrogance of lOlSU fans and their insistence of emphasizing the word THE before their school's name. It's as if they don't realize that takes away from the importance of their school's name.

Hell of a catch either way.

I know, it's crazy how they kept ruling those passes incomplete when the ball hit the ground. WTF was with that?? Stupid refs making Miami lose by 46 points!

So that boy caught a ball while running down some grass? Yeah, that IS awesome.

Well, to be fair, "The" is actually part of the school's official name.

It's still technically correct, and that's the best kind of correct.

"Best catch of the 2012 college football season so far: THE Ohio State's Devin Smith"

Bolded the important part.

I remember Mike Williams doing something similar for USC against Oregon State back in '02 or '03. Hopefully this guy's career goes a little better.

/well, we can at least assume he won't be "allowed to enter the draft, then get f*cked by the NFL appealing it but not being allowed to go to college, either," so that should help

I also grew up in Columbus, but I never heard "the" until the start of the Tressel years. Huh.

You mean that picture that shows the receiver from the mid-thigh up? Where we can't see his magical feet?

These are the best refs in all of football right now. Could be worse, could be NFL refs.

Yep. That was a good catch.

2012-09-02 10:38:14 PM
That catch was not only spectacular, but so beautifully finished as well.

Compare that to the many, many passes that Matt McGloin was nice enough to put into BOTH of his receivers' hands that they dropped like a hot, greased infant.

Against the University best known for its marching band and one hell of a Halloween party. I can't wait to see this type of performance against THE school from Ohio.

Bonus: notice the lack of tattoos.

demonstrates just how good these gloves are now, and what truly bad hands you have to have to be DB.

You mean every "catch" which bounced off the turf when the receivers hit the ground?

Since you dont know the history behind it here's a little lesson.

Ohio U is older than Ohio state and had a judge rule that OSU was over-emphasizing "Ohio" in their branding. To differentiate themselves, they started emphasizing the "The" which was part of the name after they shed the Ag and Tech labeling from the land grant days.

I grew up in Ohio, and attended Ohio U, about an hour south of OSU. In my recollection, NO one, not even my buddies from Columbus, ever said 'THE' as part of the name of OSU.... They just called it 'Ohio State'. I'd imagine those who actually say it are only doing it to be ironic or get a rise out of their audience.
