Ronnie had all his teeth pulled so he could suck J..Edgars dick.

During their most intimate moments Hoover referred to him as Raygum,.

I bet J Edgar had him a chubby for Ronald Reagan, manly man in a suit, slicked back black hair, smoking a chesterfield by the fire of the ranch.

Mario Savio demonstrating why he was a far more intelligent that either Raygun or Hoover.

Sproul Hall speech on December 2, 1964:

There's a time when the operation of the machine becomes so odious, makes you so sick at heart, that you can't take part! You can't even passively take part! And you've got to put your bodies upon the gears and upon the wheels...upon the levers, upon all the apparatus, and you've got to make it stop! And you've got to indicate to the people who run it, to the people who own it, that unless you're free, the machine will be prevented from working at all!

And governor. And president.

Dude was against the free speech movement at U.C.Berkley. When he took office as governor he loaded the board of regents with cronies and had the president fired and replaced with yet another lackey.

He was convinced the movement was instigated by communists, so he asked the FBI to investigate it. They found that the movement was independant of communists, who only had incidental involvement.

He chose to crack down anyway, and got lots of innovent people blackballed.

Let's consider whose hero Ronald Reagan is.

That tells us all we need to know about him.

My history prof still had a bit of a grudge 20 years ago about how Reagan was eager to give the longest list of names to McCarthy and HUAC back in the day. OTOH, should we treat Nazi sympathizers much differently than Communist sympathizers? Both were killing innocents in their millions in gulags/camps. Both wanted to violently curtail human rights, regardless of how much we in the West had feet of clay. Even on the subject of anti-Jewish antisemitism (Palestinians and Osama Bin Laden are also 'Semitic' in a sense), post-WW2 Stalin was getting pretty twitchy about the Jews and lots of them were on their way to Siberia or the Hereafter. It was lucky for Soviet Jewry that he drank himself to death when he did.

This is not news. During the McCarthy era, Reagan's position was roughly, "Tell me who you want me to denounce. You need my mother? Cause that's not a problem. I can den...oh you don't need her? You sure? It's not a prob...oh OK. So you don't need my mom. Just draw up the list. Anybody, really. Anybody. I'll fark anybody to get ahead. They're all Commies, I'm sure of it, Commies everywhere, so I can take out some Commies, and I can get a little boost, so it's win-win."

"So you're sure you don't need my mom?"

"These damn politicians are screwing up our agenda. They think they actually tun things."

"Let's hire some avuncular, failed B actor and install him as president. The hoi polloi will get all starstruck and he can keep them distracted."

"Oh, come on. People aren't that stupid."

"You're new here, aren't you?"

Because I'm bored:

Being a stool pigeon and ratting people out to the FBI for alleged "sympathies" is NOT "whistleblowing".

And there was not then nor is there now anything illegal about being a Socialist or a Communist in this country. That's part of the freedom of being American: you can hold whatever political beliefs you wish.

The whole communist psychosis was a little before my time and history was never a high priority for me so it's hard to see what the whole hysteria was about. I mean I learned the facts about the era but the whole "Invaders of the Body Snatchers" paranoia is really hard to comprehend. Although I suppose we're seeing a little of that with the terrorist thing.

The country needs its boogeymen I suppose. Although we didn't have any in the 1990s and we did okay without them.

What the hell is "Back to the Future"? No, I was referring to Ronald Reagan, from "Bedtime for Bonzo" fame. Apparently this guy was some sort of politician too? If you all say so. Sounds crazy to me.

Short explaination: Americans are an extremely paranoid people, have been since the beginning. We need something to fear, whether it's Native Americans or "Islamofascist Extremists". Remember that this country was founded by religious nutjobs who honestly thought the end of the world was close at hand, and who wanted to distance themselves from "sin".

In a word, it was about indoctrination. We were carefully and thoroughly taught to hate and fear Communists. It started with "duck and cover" drills and filmstrips on how to build and stock your own fallout shelter, and went on to include shocking stories of parents turned over to the state by their own children (something which is now apparently acceptable, so long as the parents are pot smokers). Communists weren't human. They were like the Terminator - they were coming to get us, they would never relent, and they could not be reasoned with. Either they would be exterminated, or we would.

And that was just kindergarten.

Reagan was a rat fink for Hoover?
Sold out members of SAG?
Had a rival fired?
Used the FBI's secret help to win Governorship in Cali?
Also to help cover up his involvement with groups deemed subversive?

Wow, wotta POS.

Th blacklist in Hollywood not only ruined careers and destroyed lives, it was completely unfounded in legal principles. There was no "whistle" to blow...people who informed on other actors and directors were lying to save their own asses. The Hollywood Ten were about as much "communist" agents as the scumbags who sold them out so they could keep working.

No matter what you feel about Pfc. Manning, he did violate an actual law, so nobody fabricated stories about all the things he didn't do and then sold him out. Reagan and shiatstains like Elia Kazan who piously thought they were doing the right thing by colluding with the FBI and the MPAA were the lawbreakers, imo, and they should not get any kind of support.

Funny how the 1990s (specifically after the collapse of the USSR) was when the right wing really went completely off-the-deep-end insane? They really thought they were gonna get their apocalyptic fight with Teh Commiez (a la Red Dawn) and then it was all yanked out from underneath.

But you're right, some personalities just can't handle dealing with reality if there isn't a Boogeyman to blame for Everything Bad in the world. Enter the NWO. Then when that didn't work out they decided to openly hate their own countrymen: Enter today's GOP.

The people that Walt Disney ratted out to McCarthy as communist agitators just so happened to the people that were wanting to unionize Walt Disney's employees.

Just a mere fleeting coincidence there, I'm sure. Uh huh.

The only difference between the POS Republicans back then and the POS Republicans now, is the expansion of their witch hunts to include falsely accusing people of being sekrit Muslims or members of the Muslim Brotherhood.

It was a handy way of surpressing the American labor movement. You want to go on strike for better pay or a better pension plan? That sounds like Communism! Painting anything left-wing as Communist is how we are where we are today, vis-a-vis wealth distribution to the 1%ers.
