"No one can tell us who to bung..."

2012-09-02 10:56:08 AM
I wonder if the crowd yelled "WE ARE" really loudly before murmuring the word "young" while no one looked at each other.

2012-09-02 11:26:01 AM
I totally thought it was a different song before I listened to the video. The one from the "Clueless" soundtrack.

2012-09-02 11:32:42 AM
how you know your team's not going to win anything: the big story is about the band.

2012-09-02 12:38:11 PM
"Sweet Child O' Mine" would've also been acceptable.

2012-09-02 01:04:18 PM
Better that than "Rock and Roll, Part 2." I really wish they would stop playing that at sporting events.

i also think their new school recruiting slogan "it's your time" is a little creepy given the context.

2012-09-02 01:29:30 PM
I thought that song choice was odd as well. "We are young, so don't molest us in the basement, or the shower......ouch......my ass is on fire".

I vote for a moratorium on PSU headlines for anything other than court proceedings I know that mods enjoy mocking the foosball but its really old.

No but I would say lame, unfunny, pathetic, tired

This is not the students or players fault, and before you get to "this perpetuated a cult of football" its like this everywhere all the way down to high school. Let it go, the guys in jail, the school has been punished, and the next trials wont start till January.

So you're saying that Fark should keep quiet about it? For 12 years maybe?

The problem with playing that song is that it's a horrible song.

2012-09-02 02:07:52 PM
I can;'t wait for the away games when the home stadium plays Pink Floyd and you have 10,000 people sing "Hey Teacher! Leave those kids alone!"

2012-09-02 02:14:26 PM
Are there any songs -- any -- that could not be interpreted as kiddie rape?

/maybe the dies irae?
//Nope: "Low I kneel, with heart submission"

You shut your whore mouth.

Let that freak flag fly PSU.

Nobody can tell you who to sing to.

One of the commenters in the link say they were there and it was the Ohio band. Was Ohio's band even at the game? Seems a bit early for a travelling band. Has school started back there already?

That didn't sound anything like Pat Benatar.

Thus, the cry of the vengeance vulture. They won't be satisfied until they've picked the carcass of Penn State clean, and as long as it's still screaming, there's meat left.

Will PSU die if it doesn't have a football program?

The bigger question is why do you care? Nobody involved with the program at the school now had anything to do with the kids getting abused.

As someone else quoted bobby Knight in another thread "The horse died, you can quit beating it"

Because athletic departments in college are too powerful. Why should Bobby Bowden have more influence than the head of the physics department? If a professor is hit with a violation like plagiarism they can't just move to another university like so many fooba coaches do. Priorities are very out of whack.

I disagree about the punishment PSU got, but I'm with you about the headlines.

OMG THIS SONG HAS THE WORD "YOUNG" IN IT AND IT WAS PLAYED AT PENN STATE just isn't that funny. Shrug.

/Seriously? Greatest moments in college sports?

The band is planning a halftime tribute to Billy J. Kramer and the Dakotas next week. They'll kick things off with a rousing rendition of "Little Children", play some rhythmic, slapping tunes and wrap things up with "Bad To Me" as they enter the end zone.

Because that song is called Love is a Battlefield.

I love how the article skips over the Philosophy Department's stirring rendition of "We are Jung".

Fascinating, except virtually every song written can be made creepy if you think of something creepy and listen to the song with that filter running through your head.

"Fiddle About" by The Who. I have no idea what the hell that song is supposed to mean.

Because those programs bring in millions of donations and revenue, something no department head has ever done. And if you have a decent program you get the alumni happy which leads to more donations.

Don't like it, then don't watch or go to football-centric schools.

Because everyone associated with the old program is gone except for a few assistants which were recently hired by joepa. Again let it go, they had nothing to do with it

Penn State? Never heard of 'em...OH you mean the Penn State that was allowed to collaborate with the NCAA on its' football program's punishment, which was then totally portrayed as a "new death penalty" even though there were totally 97,000 snarling mongoloids at the home opener yesterday? The Penn State who's culture of lionizing Joe Paterno and Nittany Lion football was denounced by the head of the NCAA, despite the knowledge that his bullshiat sanctions would do nothing to change the culture?

Oh, ok. I remember them. Not sure how a song played at their goddamned football game really matters much but out-of-whack priorities are the norm there so who the hell knows.

Yes, The Marching 110 was there. You obviously can't tell from the video, but it is possible that it was the 110 playing that -- it would very "in character" for them to play a popular song (not a "hey, lets make fun of somebody" song though). In previous years, classes would not have started at OU until after Labor Day, but they just switched to semesters from quarters which means that they started classes on the 27th.

Meanwhile, at the Penn State game:

These people will never, ever learn. Kill the football program and raze the farking stadium to the ground. They will never become decent people until you take away their reason for their disgusting behavior.

He's been one of the most vocal alums out there. And when Matt Millen is even couching his previous language you have to wonder how bad an idea your position is.

Personally I would've gone with 'Voices Carry.' And I find it interesting who is white-knighting for Penn State. Unless you're 10-13, he isn't going to sleep with you.

This college perpetutated a culture that allowed one of the most heinous things to occur under their roof of any school in the nation, but hey, it's cool because cognitive disonence. Something steamingpile is a pro at.

Perpetuates, not perpetuated. Nothing about the culture has changed for the better since all of this began.
