You think the part where he belittled politicians begging for votes and called it the "same old deal" was scripted? Interesting script for a political convention.

I'm not sure what you're saying. I only watched about 30 seconds because it was painful, but I certainly had the impression it was unscripted.

Thought you were being sarcastic about it being ad-libbed. He certainly gave some forethought to what he was going to say, but there was no way he was reading from a prompter.

They claim it wasn't in the prompters, and I hope it wasn't. I don't know how you put rambling into a Teleprompter.

The Romney campaign actually had to release a statement saying the speech wasn't planned.

The Republicans spent piles of money and spent a whole week trying to sell Mitt Romney to America.

And America walked away from their carefully crafted production with just one image in their heads:
a doddering old coot arguing with a chair.

I love it when a plan comes together.

Jason Alexander brought up the point again, why are right wing actors allowed to have opinions but left wing actors are given a different message by the GOP echo chamber?

Republicans never hold double standards or are inconsistent in their beliefs.

Usually on the same page with Maher, but comparing a comedy club to a political convention is ridiculous - a crowd at a convention is inclined to go along with whatever the speaker says. The crowd laughed along to the nonsense about Afghanistan and how attorneys shouldn't be president without thinking for just that reason.

Yup. Compare the right's reaction to the Dixie Chicks versus their reaction to Ted Nugent, Dave Mustaine, Hank Williams, Jr

Man, that is like hyper-hypocrisy on steroids.

Came here to say this. Of course he killed, he was in a stadium full of sycophant republicans. Farking Carrot Top could bring the house down if he was spewing republican rhetoric.

What's with the raccoon comment? I can't play the video here. Was he wearing a rug?

It's a pretty small image, and I won't say it's not a good rug, because I can't tell, but it's just not Jason Alexander as we all know hum and so clearly a rug.

He was. In his defense, it wasn't a BAD rug, but you farking notice it because everybody and their brother knows Jason Alexandar is bald as fark. It was also curly hair.

It certainly wasn't as bad as his "John Travolta" spray-on he wore for 'Shallow Hal' (so glad I get to use this again):

Really. He spent 9 years playing a bald guy (and for some people that's all he's known for) and he suddenly decides to wear a piece? There was even an episode where George got a rug and everyone made fun of him (except Kramer). Strange.

He said that Eastwood could have "easily bombed," but he managed to make the routine work.

Yeah...no. Maybe for the crowd in attendance, but the real intended audience was the people that were sitting at home. And those people were left scratching their heads, wondering what in the living fark they just watched.

It's almost like, he's developed a skill that allows him to memorize and recite a lot of words and recite them when they would be most appropriate.

I wonder why.

/Maybe because that's what he gets paid a lot of money to do - cuz he's, you know., a veteran actor.

Whenever the right pulls that shiat to silence someone, I just wish that someone would quote Picasso:

"What do you think an artist is? An imbecile who has only eyes if he's a painter, or ears if he's a musician, or a lyre at every level of his heart if he's a poet, or even, if he's a boxer, just his muscles? On the contrary, he's at the same time a political being, constantly alive to heartrending, fiery, or happy events, to which he responds in every way[. . . .] No, painting is not done to decorate apartments. It is an instrument of war..."

2012-09-02 03:11:47 AM
If Eastwood had been better prepared and if the routine itself had been somewhat less retarded*, it could actually have been a decent act. It certainly wasn't the worst performance at the RNC - the fact that its eye-catching weirdness derailed what little momentum Romney was building up is just a bonus.

*I won't necessarily hold the latter against him; he probably had to do it that way in order to make it consistent with conservative "humour"

For the record, as much as I've been snarking about this (and will continue to snark), I actually agree with this and with a lot of the other "Wow, this is awful" comments that I've been seeing around. Eastwood is a living legend, and the rest of his political views are actually pretty sane; to be honest, I felt absolutely terrible for him when I first saw the video.

I think I just received two copies of the too-soon bad-taste humour gene. :P

Wow. I don't think I've ever seen Bill Maher be so clueless. (And I've seen him be really clueless.)

That audience erupted into laughter when then saw the teleprompter screen. Clint could have stood there silent for five minutes and then said, "birth certificate" and he would have gotten a standing ovation.

You'd think that a guy who has been doing stand-up for thirty years would understand how to read a crowd.

If you are doing a corporate gig, you can say, "What's up with those copy machines?" and bring the house down.

Yeesh.

A featured speaker at the RNC in 2012 said that the war in Afghanistan, the war that was started as a direct response to the 9/11 attacks, was wrong. He also asked why not just bring home the troops tomorrow. He also said that being against the Iraq war was okay. And he got applause from the delegates for all of those statements. That's kind of mind blowing if you really think about it.

I have to disagree with Maher. Yes, he killed, but they weren't listening to a single thing that he was saying. If he had said the above at the DNC, he would have been branded a terrorist.

The crowd was starstruck. That's really all that there is to Eastwood's comedic success.

2012-09-02 03:28:32 AM
That episode Friday night was a bunch of failure from the right wing guests, first you got Dinesh D'Souza being a complete fraud and trying to sell his movie down the pipe to everyone even though the thing is a joke and been shown to be fabricated, then you got the guy who use to be on GW Bush's team who kept trying to make everything he said was a fact when it was a blatant lie and very ignorant of the subject matter, not to mention every time he would get in an argument he would get very very quiet to the point of whispering instead of just talking regularly about the point.

I'm personally get sick of Republicans showing up on talk shows and doing the typical "lalala i can't hear you" to the point of distraction and to the point that they look like a crying/whining two year old. they refuse to listen to reality or even consider another view point they will just grind down further into their same stance and refuse to move. Now that they have figured out that all they have to do is lie 24/7 and that no one in their voting populace will do research they have no problem acting this way and continuing the lies.

baka-san: The only really funny part is that the RNC really seems to believe that Clint REALLY IS the outlaw jose wells Josie Wales

FTFY.

It's sad to see all the Leftists here complaining about Clint.
1) While there were Teleprompters his speech was not being run on them

2) Shall we compare Clint to the imbecile that is Joe Biden?
A) Plagerizing over half a speech by an Irish politician and trying to pass it off as his own
B) "What we need in this nation is a three letter word: JOBS!'
C) Claiming to have recently ate at a resturant that has been closed for closed for over 25 years
D) Saying 'Big farking deal" on a live mic.

And those are the ones that easily come to mind.

Nope, all you folks are ripping Clint for the same reasons that Reagan, Bush 43 and Palin are 'dumb/stupid':
You've got nothing else to use because you are afraid of them and afraid of conservatives in general.

Without your sense of moral and intellectual superiority you got nothin'. Since you refuse to debate the ideas you resort to ridicule.

It doesn't work anymore. Your ideas have failed and America knows it.
Prepare to lose the White House AND the Senate in eight weeks because it's gonna happen.

If Obama's accomplishments amounted to anything he would be running on them but no; instead all he does insult Romney and have other Dems lie about lie about him, starting with this bullshiate 'war on women' and continuing with that thief Reid's comment that Romney has paid taxes in the past ten years.

What idiots,

Obama has been a sham of a President and as was pointed out last week all he has done is make promises on the record and then claim his promises are the record.

Said he would work to reopen the Janesville GM plant. Never did a thing toward that.
Formed a debt reduction committee and then ignore their recommendations
Formed a jobs council that he hasn't met with in 8 months
Claimed to be post-racial and has worked to segregate the nation
Claimed his would be the 'most transparent administration evah and instead it is the most secretive.
Said he would close GitMo and hasn't
Said Bush 43's terrorism fighting was a bad idea but has kept those plans in place and expanded them.
Said he would reduce the deficit by half at the end of his term and instead added more debt than ALL THE OTHER presidents combined.

And the biggest one: Said if the Stimulus was passed UE would peak at 8% and instead it peaked at 11% and would have been higher but he had the way UE is counted changed to lessen the figures.

Make fun of Clint and every other Rep all you want but you voted for and support the biggest liar to ever be in the White House and you can't reconcile that his claim that 'the seas will stop rising and planet start to heal'.

As funny as Clint was that one line of Obama's is perhaps the funniest thing said in the past 4 years.
