Singer is hot, keyboardist is hot. Drummer is funny.

2012-09-01 01:38:37 PM
I just imagine that the singer is facing forward, and has no idea he's doing this...then she turns around, and he's all, "what? I'm just back here minding my own business, keeping the beat, you know, just sittin' here..."

I'd be more impressed if he didn't seem to occasionally slip into 5/4 out of enthusiasm.

Note that the cymbal on the far right is about 5-6 feet off the ground.

This tells us that this isn't the first time he's done this.

2012-09-01 02:32:51 PM
One of the drummer's cymbals was a little bit high - much like the drummer himself.

Steve Moore does it better

Normally I really dislike drummers that try to steal the show at the expense of their bandmates.

But this guy looks so happy I just can't muster up the bile.

I chuckled. Not only at the drummer. Sleepy/bored bass player had about 5 more strings than he really needed.

Rickenbacker: Sleepy/bored bass player had about 5 more strings than he really needed.

Good point.

New rule: If you use the low B string on a song written before 1980, you're banned from music for 1 year.

Drummer was kind of funny, but the whole thing seemed kind of staged/fake, and the guy's not really that good at actually playing the drums.

phoenixdan: Same guy / band, just younger?

Looks like.

Crap, I just started teaching myself and I'm better than that guy on guitar.

From youtube:

Kwon Soon Keun became a worldwide YouTube sensation when someone posted 'Korean Drummer Steals The Show' on YouTube several years ago.
I was so fascinated by his drumming and went on to make a documentary film called 'A DRUMMER'S PASSION'.

The film was well received by public and it was selected for screenings at 2011 Vancouver Asian Film Festival and 2011 Toronto Reel Asian Film Festival. Mr. Kwon and I were on CP24 and Rogers TV Daytime for interviews and the popularity of the film was so high that we got so much attention despite it is only a short film.

Now, we are planning to make a feature film on Mr. Kwon and he seems happy to get his spotlight back at 71. (He is turning 72 in 2012.)

He has been playing with young musicians in 20's and 30's and he seems to fit well with them. Recently, he performed in front of more than 600 people and I recorded the performance to share with the rest of the world. This may not become another 'Korean Drummer Steals The Show' but I hope more and more people watch his video and feel the joy as much as I do.

So, the fact that the 'younger' one is playing jazz style makes doesn't suggest they're not the same guy?

Not a drummer myself (tried my hand but wasn't into it), but I thought that drummers tended to divide into 'rock' and 'jazz' sides, with little crossover. Jazz drumming holds the left stick with the hand facing up; rock, down.

Any drummers here want to chime in? I'm curious about this now.

I didn't want to say it, but let's be honest, most Koreans look pretty similar to roundeyes, so 'same face' doesn't really mean much, I think, unless you're Korean or Asian yourself. (I'm not, and I'm willing to admit that I'm a typically face-blind roundeye. I won't apologise for things I can't help.) As for the rest, I don't think any of that's very distinctive, really.

I'm not saying it's not the same guy, only that I'm not convinced.

I am a drummer, and I can do traditional or matched grip, and if I play jazz or rock, I hold the sticks any which way because why not? :D

as for the everybody looks the same thing...that's a valid argument. but you've got an old white haired dude now, and a young dude 30 years ago. it's the same guy.
