(TMZ)   Nic Cage rents movies and never returns them. As long as it's movies from his own body of work that he's never returning, I say he's doing everyone a favor   (tmz.com) divider line 28

According to their screenshots, it appears those movies were checked out by Cage Nicholas.

So, shenanigans.

They want ten times in late fees what the DVDs are actually worth. Fark them.

Yeah... you kinda lose my sympathy when you are trying to charge late fees beyond the cost of the DVD in question.

MrVeach: people rent movies?

Blockbuster still has a store 5 minutes away from me.

It's nice because I pay monthly and I can keep the movie/TV show as long as I want without late fees.
It sucks because their selection sucks and they are not always open at hours which are convenient to me.
OTOH, they're on the way to the liquor store so it's easy to stop there.

I'm going to cancel it though. They sucked me in with 1 free month and I'm now on my 3rd month and unless I'm looking for something specifically which is often already checked out I'm left wandering around the store trying to find something good and it's mostly DVDs instead of BluRays and I pick up random movies and wonder if it's any good and usually it's not.

Netflix is cheaper and even though Netflix's selection also sucks I've never had them tell me that they didn't have a movie because someone already checked out their only copy.

When he watches them, does he ask in a loud voice, "How am I not in this movie?!!"

Blockbuster is an awesome place to buy used games, however. Great prices, good selection.

Renting movies is actually a good deal if the company offers an affordable unlimited pass. At Blockbuster it isn't advertised but if you say you are interested in a blockbuster pass they will tell you of the deals. There is an unlimited movie pass, unlimited game pass, or dual unlimited game and movie pass. On top of that there are different tiers that let you check out 1, 2, or 3 out at any time. There are no late fees even for new releases (as long as you keep your pass active because you are renting that as one of the slots you have out).

If I remember correctly a year ago it was a monthly charge of $15 for 1, $25 for 2, and $35 for 3 out at a time and you could return then at any time, even within the same day. In effect, you could get their whole collection of movies rather quickly if you decide to copy them. You can't beat prices like that and you get a chuckle in line when you see the line filled with people spending $15+ on a few movies for ONE movie night. Then I go through the line, they scan my movies/games, my charge is $0, and I leave. It usually draws a few looks on how the hell I was able to do it.

Hrmm they offered it to you without you asking about it there? It could be that I have good luck with my pass and selection here since it isn't something that is openly advertised.

I just watched Ghost Rider 2 yesterday, and the suck was strong. What happened to Nick? Some of his early movies kick ass. Now he's half a step above Gary Busey.

His hair is a bird, your late fees are irrelevant.

They sent me a flyer in the mail a few months ago. I didn't know about getting multiple movies out at once, but it is about $15 a month for one at a time and like you said I can exchange them as often as I like - multiple times a day if I wanted to.

I don't see people spending $15 at a time to rent multiple movies. Usually it's teenagers getting one or 2 movies or parents with young children and the kids are usually begging their parents to buy them candy to go with the movie. Often there are more employees than customers but I probably don't go at peak times.

Those of us with unlimited passes go through the line much quicker than parents renting one or two at a time. Check in, check out, we're done. It's like a library. I know there must be some good movies in there, but I find it difficult to wade through all the BS. My idea of a good movie doesn't always coincide with teens or young children.

They are trying to recoup the loss of further rentals of the lost DVDs. The longer they are kept out of the store, the more money is lost by the store. Pretty simple.

It doesn't matter, Cage Nicolas has already settled the debt for $80.

Bonus: Old Bank DVD "As a token of our appreciation for all the fine work Mr. Cage has done in film, with any rental this weekend, our customers may also pick one Nicolas Cage movie for free - and that's like half our store, I mean seriously, that's one hard working actor ;-). Welcome back anytime Nic "

Protip: when outing a video/DVD rental deadbeat, publicly releasing the exact items (titles) that they haven't returned could be construed as a violation of privacy, possibly costing you more (much more) than the $$ you're looking to collect.

/I think this issue has already been addressed in the courts.
