You know what, if he did improve his accuracy this preseason, he could be in for a decent year (top15, maybe outside chance of 10th or 9th). It's his first real offseason go at things and he was barely getting the job done against bad teams end of last year.

He's got Floyd and Larry to throw to so he just needs to be in the ballpark to have them boost his stats significantly. Larry is dying to see the ball get thrown within 2 feet of him.

Given time he'll be right up there with Romo. Maybe even better.

TheManofPA: It's his first real offseason go at things and he was barely getting the job done against bad teams end of last year.

ehhh.....for as bad as the 2011 season started for the Cards, they finished the season 7-2, with one loss coming against he Ravens by three points, and yeah, they played for the most part a bunch of shmoes (philly, dallas, rams x 2) but.....the defense picked up at the end of the season.

i guess because of the attentino that position gets specifically to this team, still dealing with the Kurt "at the end of the day" Warner* hangover, the season will ride, fairly or unfairly, on that position. when in fact, the arizona defense wil largely determine the team's fortune.

*heard Kurt on local radio yesterday. at the end of the day, skelton just perfromed better and had more poise, because at the end of the day, in the national football league, if you aren't confident, you won't succeed. I liked Kolb's preparation in the offseason but at the end of the day, he just wasn't confident int he pocket and i didn't see the kind of progression you need at that position because if you watch what i did when i took this team to the super bowl, at the end of the day, you need someone who can stand in the pocket. at the end of the day, you gotta produce and at the end of the day, the team decided that at the end of the day, skelton gave them a better option. because when i took this team to the super bowl, at the end of the day, i took this team tot he super bowl. and at the end of the day....

Lost Thought 00: Worst trade in history?

one of the worst in the past 5 years but on one hand, there aren't a ton of NFL trades -- certainly not as many as in MLB* or NBA -- so the sample size is smaller....but i'm not giving up on it yet. There's no doubt Kolb will play this season so i'm not ready to definitively say the trade was a bust. But DRC and a 2 and then extending Kolb? Safe to say it is one of the dumber trades in recent memory but by no means the worst in NFL history.

and also, most NFL trades tend to be "name player for draft pick(s)". So it is hard to evaluate a trade when the trade can only be evaluated 2-3 years down the line. Take Tebow, for example. Let us say that somehow, he lights it up and the Jets go, I don't know, 12-4. Denver "only" got a 4th and 6th round draft pick for him. Newsflash: 6th round picks don't tend to make the 53. if Tebow houses it, that trade iwll look dumb in retrospect.

*when is the last blockbuster trade in the NFL even remotely comparable to the Red Sox/LA trade a few weeks ago? Ricky Williams for 8 players 12 years ago, or the Hershcel Walker trade in the late 80s?

Lost Thought 00: Worst trade in history?

Considering that DRC has regressed (IMHO) I don't think the cardinals planned to resign him. So they dealt a player they had given up on to take a chance on Kolb.

I think the players and pick we're fine. It's the extension that makes it look so bad.

If the deal was for something like Matt Flynn money, it'd be easier to swallow.

Not to stir up the pile here but how is it Kolb did well with the Eagles but not the Cards? Could the supporting cast be better in Philly?

Andy Reid is a QB guru. He even made mcnabb look good.

Skelton is incredibly talented - easily one of the top 100 professional quarterbacks in the country.

He actually didn't really do that well with Philly, either. Check out his numbers after his 2009 injury. Dude had a passer rating in the 70s with a 1:1 TD:INT ratio. Matt Flynn has posted more 3+ TD games in his career than Kolb has (notable because Flynn has started TWO games in his career).

Skelton will get injured, Kolb will come in, suck even more, and we'll all laugh as Arizona challenges St. Louis to be the dregs of the NFC West.

You can say that loss was by three points...the problem was that they were statistically the luckiest team in the league in close games, and Patrick Peterson returns won them at least three of those games. If teams just punt it out of bounds, the Cardinals are doomed. I'm not sure you can count on FOUR OT wins every year, including OT wins over a Seattle team which had no incentive to win, Cleveland, and St. Louis.

They went 7-2 and outscored their opponents by a grand total of 4 points in that stretch. I laugh heartily when people act as though Arizona's going to contend this year. They're a dumpster fire.

I may get Skelton in the 20th round.

Shameless threadjack. I have the first pick in a fantasy league. Kinda funky scoring: PPR, .25 per rush/completion, 6 points per passing TD. Rodgers or Rice? The PPR is what makes Rice appeal to me.

Well, Rodgers will be putting up more completions every week than Rice gets rushes, and will get 2-4x as many TDs...just depends on if you think you can get close to their value with your next pick at their positions.

/I don't actually offer the advice so you can't blame me.

I think this is the right call. Kolb has looked like a liability every time he's been out there.

There were other decisions that surprised me more. Like the Chargers dropping Jarret Lee.

Pats fan here.. Brian Hoyer just hit the market, and that kid has a laser arm.. and is a Brady Belichick understudy. The cards need to grab him and bench BOTH of these other fools. You heard it here first.
