Many gay guys are very successful and affluent, and don't have children, so they do not have a vested interest in high taxes that support schools, parks, zoos, etc. They just laugh off the social evangelical zealotry.

Gay bars are awesome to go to, even as a straight man. Most guys, if you let them know you're straight and not there to hook up, are cool with it. You might get one guy in your entire time going to gay bars ever who gets pissy that a straight guy is in a gay bar, but that's about it; more likely you'll get one or two guys that don't know the meaning of the word "no" a night.

Outside that, the company's usually pretty good (especially if you have a gay friend or two), you won't find better mixed drinks anywhere, if the bar serves food it'll generally be fantastic (definitely a step up from most bars' typical fare), the music's better, and who doesn't love a drag show?
