minoridiot: Macarena and Don't Worry, Be Happy are at the top of my hell list.

On further thought, Macarena along wih Train's Hey Soul Sister also should receive honorable mentions here.

That was my first thought.

I would add that abortion of a cover of that abysmal Asia song, Final Countdown.

I almost pissed myself when I saw the St. Anger drums were #1. I remember Lars talking about how his new drum sound was so 'raw' and heavy and back to roots when that album came out. Lord, is it unlistenable.

Then I watched the linked video about him showing people how to make the St. Anger drums and he won back a ton of cred.

Besides sharing the ludicrous concept of building a city on anything other than concrete, Starship wrote what Rolling Stone have named as the worst song of the 1980s.

Yeaaaah.... and just what is it you're putting the concrete on, Frank Lloyd Wright?

See, the list FTA is made up mostly of soulless pap and covers of good songs. That's not enough to make a song truly horrible.

No, you need someone who is trying their best, believing every word they sing, as they tell you about the Feelings... woah woah woah feelings... woah woah woah feelings... again in their hearts.

I feel that God Bless the USA was partially redeemed by Lee Greenwood's lesser known derivative work God Bless You Canada.

"Tie a Yellow Ribbon" is actually #1 with a bullet (to my left temple) simply because I had to perform the damned thing every evening for a certain period of time - it literally was part of the playlist.

I would have far more preferred "My Guitar Wants to Kill Yer Momma."

Worse. I played and sang in a duo in the 70's. DJing lets you put the record on and hide your face in shame. Playing requires that you face the audience and acutally sing. No one ever paid me enough.

If I go to hell, they will play "Friday" by Rebecca Black but once, right when I arrive. For the rest of eternity, it will buzz around the back of my head, my brain trying in vain to get the lyrics "Everybody's looking forward to the weekend" to fit the meter properly. Eternally convinced I can make it scan, but always failing.

There's a Far Side cartoon about that one. I remember it playing all the time during the first Gulf War.
