In many states making a comment like that, even offhandedly, could be considered a terroristic threat, and charges can be filed.

If Karl Rove was mysteriously skinned alive with a potato peeler, doused in rubbing alcohol, and dropped into a pit of fire ants, the world would be a better place.

he's not one to mince words, is he?

I don't blame him. Akin snatched defeat from the jaws of victory in that Senate race.

I was going to smack subby for using nonexistent quotes until I checked the article.

Why do Republicans hate this guy so much? He supports all the same policies they do.

How dare he make our views known to the general public!

Do share! I have a number of Republican friends, but the only one that had anything to say about the RNC was the fat wife of the most Republican friend I have (irony points: she is employed by a public school but doesn't want socialisms). Most of the stuff in my feed is the usual bullshiat about babies and God.

2012-08-31 12:29:32 PM
What shocked me about Todd Akin was that he's not smarter than a 5th grader, about human biology.

The rest of it, his attitudes, seem common for his party.

Hell, worse then that. Most analysts are saying that Atkins has also guaranteed that the states electoral votes are now Obamas.

Holy Fark, he actually said that.

Wow.

Will Rove send Darth Vader, i.e. Cheney to do the dirty deed?

Rove is the one guy that, if he's making jokes about your imminent demise, you should hire lots of bodyguards and stay in a public place at all times.

Got a link? I'd find that interesting to read. 538 still has MO as 89% likely to go Romney.

Rove did seem like one of the first Republican strategists to grasp that nurturing Palin and the Tea Party was a big farking mistake. Of course he was the guy that plotted out the entire strategy that eventually gave rise to them, so it is mostly a matter of realizing that he dun farked up.

They hate him because he told the truth about what Republicans think.

Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan are much more damaging to the Republicans than Akin.

2012-08-31 12:39:36 PM
The Business Week article this is based on is well worth the time: Link

"Barbour made the final pitch. 'You all give so unbelievably generously. But you know what, I don't have any compunction about looking you in the eye and asking for more," he said. He compared the importance of a donation to American Crossroads in this cycle to donations made to "the charity hospital" or a "big not-for-profit cancer research program that you give to.'"

That's right. Super PACs are as important has hospital charities and cancer research.

It's more a rumor than anything thoroughly documented - a reporter claims the exchange happened during a press conference (when the reporter, Robert Sherman asked a few questions about equal citizenship of atheists) in 1987 and he's the only one who really took note of it because of how weird a thing it was to say.

Because he was stupid enough to say what the party actually believe about rape and women instead of speaking in vague terms about "protecting life".

Seems unlikely about Missouri.. the rural areas are devote attendees of the Church of Fox News, and AM radio, and don't get their info from anywhere else.

If some wacko goes out and decides to do something to Akin, all kinds of suspicion will be on Rove as having hired him.

Heck, even if it's proven he didn't hire him, the conspiracy theories and suspicions will still be out there. If anything happens to Akin from here on out, eyes are on Rove.

Supporting them is fine and necessary to keep the theocrats. misogynists and bigots voting for you, but you have to use the right euphemisms/dog whistles or you lose the moderate voters, and not just in your individual race. Saying different things to different people is a delicate balance, so if you don't do it the right way, you can lose everything.

It would never have become this big if the Republicans hadn't played up the white knight card by throwing him under the bus.

Republicans are trying to walk back their insane hyperbole, I don't know if they can help themselves. Candid Karl Rove is actually pretty interesting. His time constantly defending and spinning for the Bush admin makes me think of him as a douchebag pundit and not a political strategist.

Yup. GOP needs to find 2 additional senate wins now to make up for the one Akin pissed away.
Akin ain't helping Romney either.

Rove is correct. As much as I despise him. He is good at politics.

If Weiner can step down for the good of the Democratic party, then Akin should do the same for the GOP

Rove was the last guy to be able to handle the Reagan coalition effectively. Rampant, jingoistic nationalism was enough to keep the future teabaggers in line with the mainstream agenda of tax cuts for the wealthy and deregulation. But now, the lunatics are taking over the asylum, and the inherently fragile coalition is falling apart..

They've got until 2020 to fix their party. 2010's gerrymandering is guaranteed to keep the republicans relevant until the next census.
