Man. He was a good-great player but like someone on ESPN said, his prime just happened to be at the same time as Federer's prime. How many times did RF beat him in Wimbledon? 3 times?

Reminds me of Nash being taken out by Kobe and the Lakers a few times and Stockton and Malone's killer pick and roll combo never getting by MJ and Pippen.

I'm against participation trophies but he gets my respect. He highhandedly carried men's tennis for a good long time.

Yeah, and one was the longest Grand Slam final ever played. Even with only one championship, he should get into the HOF for sure.

NO ONE has accomplished so much on a tennis court with such a God awful backhand. I'm a 40-year old ex-college player (5.0) and my two-hander is better than Roddick's...today.

$20MM + in prize money, and Brooklyn Decker...I'd say he's had one hell of a career.

And I second the comment, he'd be great in the broadcast booth...like Johnny Mac, he's witty, straight-forward and pulls no punches.

Anyone is better than Martina or Tracy Austin...they are HORRIBLE.

So this US Open marks the last for two class players, Roddick and Clijsters. Wish them well in their next career.

Damn...I was never even a much of a fan of him purely as a tennis player (I generally find the "big serve, not as much athleticism and grace during volleys" variety boring to watch), but goddamn was he always a goldmine when dealing with the media.

Yes and no. I mean if by bad place you mean we don't currently have a lock for a major..then yeah we're in a bad way. Isner and Querrey have been competitive lately, and Harrison and Sock are looking somewhat promising. I mean, considering 29 of the last 30 majors went to 3 guys pretty much everyone not Spain, Serbia, or Switzerland can say their tennis is in a "bad" place.

Venus should have quit two years ago. I think she mainly stays in because she has a competition against her sister more than anything else.

Well, now she's hanging out as a spectator. She had time to take a few closing shots at Roddick though.

"Asked afterward if she's ready to join Roddick in retirement, Williams replied: "No, because if I could have made two more shots, I probably could have won that match. I think there's a big difference for me because I'm beating myself. I'm not getting destroyed out there. ... If I was out there and people were killing me, maybe it's time to hang it up."

Damn I'm going to miss Andy Roddick. The man always gave a hundred and ten percent on the court; a smart man with a quirky sense of humor and a great ambassador for the game of tennis.

He's also very easy on the eyes.

Indeed, after beating Maria Jose Martinez Sanchez of Spain 6-2, 6-4, the younger Williams said she knew this was coming.

"I mean, he told me a while ago -- last year -- that this would be it,'' she said. "We were talking about it. I was just thinking, 'Change your mind, Andy. Change your mind.' But I guess he didn't.''

There have been instances in which Serena has been a decent person? Well, never mind. Your one counterexample is so powerful and conclusive I retract everything I've ever thought or seen with regard to Serena.

Not sure where you're getting your info from. Nash made the Lakers his biatch several times. It was the Spurs he had problems with.

Slightly
more accomplished? Andy Roddick has won 32 single titles in his career and has won at least one single's title a year for the last twelve years. Anna Kournikova has never one a single's title - not one. Ever.

How can someone achieve something thirty-two times more often than the other person and yet be only slightly more accomplished than that person?
