What is the big deal? Lots of crazy old men rant incoherently at their stools.

I wonder how long it will be before the talking point of the right wing noise-machine is "Salvador Dali is Dead you ignorant LIBS!!!! HA! HA! another Obamagaffe! "

The Eastwood...er..."speech" was incredibly difficult to watch. You guys go ahead and have your fun now. I usually defend the Repubs but they deserve it for this one. What the hell was that?!

Also, take note, farklibs, what I just did there is known as "intellectual honesty". You would do well to try it some time.

Clint Eastwood's performance was brilliant. He got really stoned before he went up there, so you have to watch it when you are stoned to appreciate it.

His performance was brilliant, but I believe he was making fun of how braindead and morally bankrupt the GOP is, by pretending to be one of them.

What's the point of extending an olive branch if you're going to beat people with it? To make yourself feel better by appearing to rise about it all?

I think what happened is he was hanging out with this cat a little too much:
kendrachanae.files.wordpress.com

and you know what they say about "two bags of grass, seventy-five pellets of mescaline, five sheets of high powered blotter acid, a salt shaker half full of cocaine, and a whole galaxy of multi-colored uppers, downers, screamers, laughers... and also a quart of tequila, a quart of rum, a case of beer, a pint of raw ether and two dozen amyls." especially the ether

"Yes. As we understand it, the GOP got him to speak at their convention by offering to take him to the most duck-filled pond he ever sat by."

I have refused to watch Eastwood's speech for fear of losing the 'still real to me dammit' respect I have for his earlier work.

It was a performance piece demonstrating how dangerous the low amount of money we spend on mental health is to society. After all, no sane person holds an argument with a chair.

Damn it!

On one hand, Gran Torino was an awesome movie, and I loved Eastwood in it.

On the other hand, if I watch his...whatever the fark that was last night....., I can't ever watch any of his movies again without being annoyed.

Wat do?

Ok.

I, too, thought that Eastwood's speech was pathetic, and that the GOP deserves a lot of crap for being so incredibly dumb as to let him on stage with that.

Wow.

You're right. I feel better now.

If only we weren't three decades into Prohibition Act 2, perhaps I'd be able to do that without risking going to jail, losing my job, being evicted from my apartment, having my shiat "confiscated" by the ATF, and being branded with the modern equivalent of a scarlet letter across my chest for the rest of my life. Hmm, I wonder which political party really championed this completely awful policy?

It was still more engaging than 95% of the speeches given.

I think Christie, Rubio, and Ryan were the only speakers who had any kind of oratory ability, and their speeches were farking awful.

Ah yes, another newbie/troll who doesn't understand the etymology of "Fark Independents (tm)" and therefore, in typical conservative fashion, fails at the telling of the humor.

I did not see his speech... nor am I planning to watch it but I heard from a couple of conservatives co-workers that they liked it.

What I don't understand is that the teabaggers were upset with his Super Bowl commercial... and now they are happy with him again?

However, would be intriguing...

actually I am a little surprised. I do think the media is still overly cautious but they have come out and stated Ryans speech was full of lies, the Eastwood thing was a failure and Romney's speech was "meh" with no specifics. Most of the time the media acts as stenographers giving no context or fact checking.

Gyrth: This is why Obama has cred with anyone who thinks and Mitt will always be the guy who only has friends he buys.

and speaking of Cred, I think Romney accidentially did Obama a favor with this stunt. Eastwood is still regarded as a badass' badass and to let Obama get into a friendly sparring match with him (like that brilliant twitter response last night) only raises Obama's likeability and "badass cred". You may be a palooka, but if you can say you once climbed in the ring with Mohammed Ali, then no matter how you did, you'll always have 'spect

So, what's wrong with that? The Rockefellers loved Dali and made his art the center piece of that group of buildings in Midtown Manhattan.

Oh wait, we're not supposed to know that the filthy rich actually contributed to the betterment of society instead of being so gotdam paranoid about getting their heads cut off that they lie about everything.

Never mind.

The only thing that would have made the whole thing better is if Romney would have stood on the chair when he gave his speech.

Mitt Romney should have made a speech last night but I guess he was worried about being overshadowed by Clint Eastwood.

Oh....never mind.

Eastwood's Rambling Transcript

Highlights:

I think possibly now it may be time for somebody else to come along and solve the problem.

(APPLAUSE)

I mean, what do you say to people? Do you just -- you know -- I know -- people were wondering -- you don't -- handle that OK. Well, I know even people in your own party were very disappointed when you didn't close Gitmo. And I thought, well closing Gitmo -- why close that, we spent so much money on it. But, I thought maybe as an excuse -- what do you mean shut up?

(LAUGHTER)

...

And I thought -- I thought, yeah -- I am not going to shut up, it is my turn.

(LAUGHTER)

So anyway, we're going to have -- we're going to have to have a little chat about that. And then, I just wondered, all these promises -- I wondered about when the -- what do you want me to tell Romney? I can't tell him to do that. I can't tell him to do that to himself.

(APPLAUSE)

You're crazy, you're absolutely crazy. You're getting as bad as Biden.

(APPLAUSE)

Of course we all now Biden is the intellect of the Democratic party.

(LAUGHTER)

Kind of a grin with a body behind it.

(LAUGHTER)

But I just think that there is so much to be done, and I think that Mr. Romney and Mr. Ryan are two guys that can come along. See, I never thought it was a good idea for attorneys to the president, anyway.

(APPLAUSE)

I think attorneys are so busy -- you know they're always taught to argue everything, and always weight everything -- weigh both sides.

They are always devil's advocating this and bifurcating this and bifurcating that. You know all that stuff. But, I think it is maybe time -- what do you think -- for maybe a businessman. How about that?

(APPLAUSE)

...

OK, well anyway. All right, I'm sorry. I can't do that to myself either.

(APPLAUSE)

I would just like to say something, ladies and gentlemen. Something that I think is very important. It is that, you, we -- we own this country.

(APPLAUSE)

...

You want to make my day?

(APPLAUSE)

All right. I started, you finish it. Go ahead.

AUDIENCE: Make my day!

Yeah, Clint, you are made because Obama didn't get us out of wars and close Gitmo down. You support gay marriage etcs., Yeah vote for Romney, see how they'll work out.

It's like has anyone told Clint what Romney's positions actually are?
