Still cooler than you.

FTFA: In the will Hemsley signed six weeks before dying of lung cancer July 24 he named Flora Enchinton, 56, whom he called a "beloved partner," as sole beneficiary of his estate, which is estimated in court documents to be more than $50,000.

A whole 50 grand, eh? I wonder what kind of estate Mr Bentley left behind.

Why can't they bury him? No one wants to claim responsibility for that?

$50,000? Looks like it isn't going to be a deluxe apartment in the sky.

James Brown and Carroll Shelby laughs at his shenanigans.

i was shocked to hear he was worth $50k! i assume he gave large amounts to charity or something, because i would think that between the jeffersons and amen he made a rather large amount of money.

guessing he made nowhere near the likes of the casts of friends or seinfeld, but i would think he made well into the millions over the course of his career, and he didn't seem the type to lead an extravagant lifestyle with lots of expensive cars and houses and drugs and booze

I think he spent it all on drugs and prog music. You could do worse.

/I like prog music

I blame the fact that there are two Lionels.

Obviously, Lionel 1 and Lionel 2 can't decide whether they want him buried or moved on up to a crypt.

Wow - what a great week. Not only have I found out that I've won as many Tour de France titles as Lance Armstrong, but I have as much money as Sherman Hemsley.

"more than $50,000" could be a whole lot more, folks.

doubtful... Unless you were a huge star, which he wasn't before the jeffersons you get a salary and residuals off the first 5 or 10 times the show is in re-runs. This affected lots of old shows. Things like Star Trek, which has made money for the studio for 40+ years only made money for most of the actors for the years it was broadcast plus an extra year or so for re-runs. The only net profit participants were gene roddenberry and William shatner, if I recall correctly. the rest got peanuts. (Granted, they make money on the lecture circuit and for showing up at conventions and stuff like that.)

According to the band, Gong, Hemsley was an LSD freak and partied crazy hard through out the '70's. Not that I entirely believe that, although it might explain his involvement with the aborted Mr.Ed reboot.

The interwebs don't have any meaningful links, but as best I can surmise, Sherman made some bad investment deals and lost his shirt.
