Well, the sun did go down when he hit Slauson.

2012-08-31 07:28:49 AM
Chapman, who was carrying a copy of the J.D. Salinger classic "Catcher in the Rye," said he fired five shots with a .38-caliber revolver, hitting Lennon four times in front of his wife, Yoko Ono.

You couldn't spare one for her, you crazy dickhead?

He was aiming at Yoko and missed.

Mark David Chapman considered killing Johnny Carson

I did not know that. Wacky, wild stuff.

FTFA: "So this is obviously very embarrassing for me now, having committed murder," Chapman told the board.

So in his head this is all still somehow about *him*? He's *embarrassed* to be a murderer? Keep this psycho locked up...

David was a seriously messed up kid. And in a lot of ways, still is. The heroin effects are still there.

He would be more of danger to himself than others if he ever did get out.

\Met him several times in college.

If he had killed Carson in 1980, I wonder who the host of the Tonight Show would be today.

Why do we have to be reminded about people like this? And see pictures of them from 30 years ago? Don't they age too?

I'm all for changing his name to something new and forgettable?

"Dildo Cornhole 1493" came up for a parole hearing today.

No one would care or have to pay attention.

Joan Rivers or David Brenner.

Leno didn't come on the scene until a couple of years later.

David Letterman or Joan Rivers. Rickles may have gotten an offer but a Don Rickles Tonight Show would have been pretty one note.

/glad he shot Lennon instead
//Would have preferred him not shooting ANYONE, obviously.

I know Yoko has been the butt of jokes for decades, but I really do feel for her witnessing the execution of her own husband. I can't even imagine that or being able to recover from it and/or not thinking about it every single day.

Not to mention being under constant scrutiny and the spotlight.. (at the time.)

I was thinking more about how my childhood would have been completely altered with Lennon around but no Carson. I was never a Beatles fan. Would Lennon have dipped his toes in the waters of crappy eighties music?

But not having Carson would have been terrible. Back in Indiana when everybody else was moving their clocks an hour it just meant that Carson came on an hour earlier for us. Just enough time to get some of his monologue before bed. It was some of my earliest exposure as a youth to adult humor.

THIS. Yoko doesn't deserve most of the hate she gets.

Ah yes, the old chestnut that acting all pious praying to Jesus and saying you are a "christ-yahn" somehow makes you a good person.
One should be very suspicious of pious folk. Truly moral people are not that way to please their god to get to heaven. They are good because it is the right thing to do.

Because he's my least favorite of the three options. I'm not saying I wish he had been murdered, but you have to make a choice. In a perfect world they would all be alive today.

It'd probably still be Jay Leno. I'm sure Ed McMahon would've hosted while they held an open talent search, and Leno would've used the same tactics he employed over a decade later to get the job.
