How dare she do her job!

Next, Clinton is off to Beijing to meet with President Hu Jintao, Vice President Xi Jinping, and State Councilor Dai Bingguo. She will also have "intense meetings" with Foreign Minister Yang Jiachi, the official said. Topics on the agenda include the South China Sea, North Korea, Iran, Syria, and Afghanistan.

More important than a dog and pony show IMO.

Yup.

If she was going to the convention instead of going overseas to conduct State Department business, this sucky blogger (whose blog sucks) would be whining and b*tching and complaining that Clinton doesn't have anything better to do than listen to B. HUSSEIN 0bama talk about how great he is.

Besides, it isn't as if she needs a convention slot. If she wants to run in 2016, she's going to have a hell of a lot of power behind her. I'm not a fan, I want Cuomo thank you very much, but she's...well, she's as much a shoe-in as she was in 2008.

Well, not everyone can go to the party.

Some folks still hafta work.

This might be a strange concept to the Mitt and Anne Romney's of the world but the rest of us get it.

Not to mention the rest of the GOP in Congress, who have done jack shiat the past 2 years.

I'll bet it costs something like $200 million a day.

This would be news. If it was Biden.

2012-08-31 01:46:33 AM
So we're to assume it would be better if the entire nation ground to a halt during the election cycle?

Oh, wait, congress would prefer it that way.

It would not only be news - it would be a big f**king deal. :D

I'm pretty sure this was decided when she accepted the job. Sitting secretaries of state traditionally don't attend political conventions.

Wait wait wait wait wait... Lemme get this straight. The Secretary of State - the official who represents our country to the world - is attending a summit of Pacific nations - allies and trade partners all - instead of attending a political rally? Impeach her, and nuke the Pacific nations for not treating American politics like the goddamn Olympics!

2012-08-31 01:59:31 AM
Isn't it customary for any and all appointed members of the executive branch to stay the hell away from the convention?

I mean, it's not like we're voting at any point for SecState.

2012-08-31 02:01:59 AM
If she attended/spoke, the right would be clamoring about shirking her duties.

I dont think anyone was complaining that she wasnt going to be there, were they? Pretty sure no one wants her in the same hemisphere as themselves if they can help it.

2012-08-31 02:06:26 AM
Right, because in 2016 no one is EVER going to remember that she was one of Obama's top lieutenants. ESPECIALLY Foxnewz

2012-08-31 02:19:04 AM
She's just getting primed for 2016.
If somehow the Romney gets to be president, she'll be a shoe in next time....because "Anything but Romney" will be the chant then.

Remember how good it was when "Bill Clinton" was President?
(And I didn't even like the guy at first.)

She's doing her job, and doing it very well. Let our Republican friends have their Sarah Palins and Michele Bachmanns. I'll take Hillary Clinton any day of the week (though I don't want her to run for President). The fact that a GOP reply would almost certainly include the word "cankles" tells you all you need to know about the Republican Party.

2012-08-31 03:26:26 AM
Good. It is a really wise move to just let Obama do his thing.

By the same token, it is really amazing what a good job Clinton has done as Secretary of State. Smoothest appointment in modern times.

2012-08-31 03:28:46 AM
I thought it was because the Secretary of State traditionally stays out of the political fray as much as possible because it can be risky for international relations to see the countries foreign representative getting down in the dirt on domestic issues.
Condi and Powell didn't talk at the RNC in 2004 or 2008 did they?(I don't think they did but I could be wrong here).

I really hope she doesn't. And this coming from someone who's learned to respect her.

We need Elizabeth Warren in 2016.

But she told a family anecdote about having Native American blood when she only has the same amount of Native American blood as the current chief of the Cherokee Nation! Therefore, she's COMPLETELY UNQUALIFIED.

Unfortunately, I think Clinton has a better chance than Warren. I could be wrong, though. They certainly should at least both campaign in the primaries if they're interested in the position.

I hope you are. Warren seems like a breath of fresh air. Clinton comes off as some kind of high school principal. But hey, maybe we need that, I really don't.

I'm sure the State Department is in disaster recovery mode after the complete joke of a convention by the Republicans who are probably spinning the heads of politicians in every allied and enemy country.

Her rushing to China after Romney beat the war drums is probably a good idea.

/Republicans think this is a "good" sign for them... LOL

Well, Warren's got to beat Brown first - that race is still a tossup as per 538.

My mom brought this up as if it meant something last weekend. It must be circulating among the Tea Party folks. I find it odd that they found respect for Hillary, that I'm sure they will lose if she ever runs for Pres.

2012-08-31 07:53:38 AM
Federal law precludes the secretary of state, the defense secretary and the U.S. attorney general from attending political gatherings, including conventions.

She cannot legally be there.

This. Foreign policy is one of Obama's great strengths and Clinton is THE spearhead. She has done an excellent job.

/didn't she say she was done after this term though? Thought I had read that somewhere, hope its not true though.
