"Herp" didn't make the cut, then?

2012-08-30 08:50:19 AM
Well. That's unremarkable.

I didn't watch the speeches or click on the link, but here is my guess for the 3 biggest words:

1) Build

2) Derp

3) Herpa

Probably tossed out by a spell checker.

With the amount of anuses on stage, I find that easy to believe.

They really need to make phrase clouds. How tough is it to build a generator that analyzes sentence fragments for patterns?

"We built it!"

"Obama's America"

"$5 trillion in debt"

"Bipartisan compromise"

"European-style Socialism"

I'd also be interested in an algorithm that aggregates subtle transformations of words together. So America, American, and Americans don't all make appearances.

Instead it's just be AMERICAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!MittPlan for the future

They seem to be focusing on #1; it's not as spectacular as "Mission Accomplished," but it'll do.

//Christie was mildly entertaining

I was listening to a speech on NPR last night. Don't know who the speaker was. He talked for about 15 minutes about how horrible Obama is and nearly at the end said "Mitt's a nice guy" and you should like vote for him or something (he didn't spend nearly as much time on this).

I really hate word clouds.

/how un-american of me.

More of a fart cloud, really.

I guess it shows there isn't a Karl Rove type around feeding certain words/phrases for all the speakers to insert as a theme or to hammer on a specific topic, because all the big words are completely generic or expected (such as the names of the candidates, the office they are running for, and various references to the name of the country). Its not like you see "jobs", "employment", "abortion" or anything really standing out (although they might be there in the smaller fonts).

Interesting that Obama and Romney are the same size...

That's kind of the sum total.

That's sort of what I was thinking. This whole convention has been done without much rapey wapey wibbly wobbly.

I think they should require candidates to do one debate loaded on sodium pentothal.

Funny, I can't see "abortion" or "gay marriage" anywhere. There must be a mistake.

Word clouds are retarded and worthless. They don't offer any insight or serve any purpose. They never have and never will, because it's just a list of words, stripped of all context and meaning. A single word without context, repeated endlessly, means nothing and has no bearing on rational analysis of a speaker's message.

Now, an actual analysis of the speeches, that figured out how much time each speaker spent on a particular issue - education, health care, defense, etc - would show what is actually going on with the GOP messaging. But that requires actual journalism and hard work, versus funneling a transcript through a farking algorithm and then putting a pretty picture on your webpage.

So the RNC's speeches boil down to Americans know Obama is President?
