TOM lies about the credit rating downgrade. To blame it on the republicans in congress is to forget history. We simply incurred to much debt up until that point and the downgrade was a result of those poor fiscal policies. When Obama apologists simply admit this, things might get better.

these guys are just so farking brazen. a cnn anchor asked jeb bush about the janesville GM plant that closed UNDER PRESIDENT BUSH. he answered that it was still a broken obama campaign promise.

seriously, there must be some sort of evolutionary device in republicans' brains that allows them to lie so naturally.

No it wasn't. Moody's themselves said it was because of the Republican hostage-taking. Literally that's what they said.

Well, now we know why the Romney campaign said to pay no attention to the fact-checkers. They knew about this piece of crap of a speech.

Wrong! Still can't face the truth huh?

Aaand I checked CNN.com this morning - guess what wasn't on the front page? Any mention of the fact that Paul Ryan blatantly lied his ass off during his entire speech.

Stupid lamestream liberal media.

He also forgot to mention that he wants to increase the US military budget.

It's Obama's fault that Bush did things in his last few years as President.

Nah, it's just Mr. Amygdala being hyper aware of threats. Unfortunately, since we have meta-cognition, it over-reacts to threats to stability of mind, rather than just bodily ones, hence reactive folk clinging to previously assumed views in the spite of evidence, which is viewed as an affront.

Anyone who blames the democrats for the debt ceiling credit downgrade is either (1) lying/trolling, or (2) is so stupid that they can't understand the difference between setting budgetary policy and Congress confirming that yes, the U.S. will pay its debts.

But please Republicans, keep talking about the debt ceiling debacle that you caused. The voters had nearly forgotten how the GOP needlessly cost the country billions of dollars, all in the name of trying to score political points and trying to make the president look bad.

I just don't see how anyone can vote for a party that has such farked up priorities, and pursues them so brazenly.

"A third rating agency threatened to downgrade the U.S. government's credit status if Congress failed to increase the nation's borrowing limit by early August, increasing pressure on lawmakers and the Obama administration to reach a deficit-reduction deal."

Really? Republicans have been biatching about the auto bailouts(which started under Bush) for years now. Using them as an example of socialism and how Obama is destroying America.

And now Ryan has the balls to whine because a factory in his home district shut down BEFORE OBAMA WAS EVEN PRESIDENT.

Not to mention structural deficits is a Republican strategy to dismantle government that was started under Reagan and accelerated under Bush.

I've mentioned this before, but we've got a teabagger at work that blames Obama for the invasion of Iraq. Yes, the guy who became a junior Senator in 2005 is somehow responsible for the actions taken in 2003 by both Congress and the WH. In the same conversation he can swing from that all the way back to the "affirmative action hire, do-nothing, lame-duck who has no ability to make any decisions" talking points.

Psh, not to one-up you here, but I've heard Teabaggers say Obama got out of serving in Vietnam due to Affirmative Action.

For a little perspective here, Obama was eight years old when the war started.

David Sedaris has the best description of these people:

(from 2008)

To put them in perspective [undecided voters], I think of being on an airplane. The flight attendant comes down the aisle with her food cart and, eventually, parks it beside my seat. "Can I interest you in the chicken?" she asks. "Or would you prefer the platter of shiat with bits of broken glass in it?"

To be undecided in this election is to pause for a moment and then ask how the chicken is cooked.

I mean, really, what's to be confused about?

Let's see.

US Credit rating...I'm not seeing a lie. "Ryan said the Obama presidency, "began with a perfect Triple-A credit rating for the United States; it ends with a downgraded America."

This is a statement of fact. The statement doesn't address how it happened, just that it happened.

I'm not sure liberals would know a lie if it hit them in the face.

Meh.

I still think it's weaksauce to include that in the 5 biggest lies. The US *did* have a AAA rating when Obama got into office, and now it doesn't. That's true. The fact that the Republicans are responsible for it is a different matter, and one that was (at least from what was cited here) not discussed.

(This is also slightly different from the canard about gas prices increasing under Obama, which is cherry picking data, a special form of lying)

So he's in favor of raising taxes on the top earners? How very progressive of him!

2012-08-30 08:53:21 AM
I have a few Conservative FB friends who were fist-pumping over Ryan's speech, saying how he "hit it out of the park". For some reason, I cannot bring myself to point out any of the lies in it to them, simply because I don't have the stomach to wade through the spinning, tap dancing, excuse making and refusal to admit the truth.

Imagine Scott Walker's response to MSNBC's questions about it on steroids. That's what I would get if I engage with them. Instead, I simply let them have their day, bask in their perceived victory and move on. It makes for a much calmer, less DERP filled evening.

Except it's not ended; it hasn't ended with that, so if you want to get all technical about it, it isn't a fact. He can say it probably will and that would make it a fact, but it's not, and it won't be a fact until it has, in fact ended. That is to say: You know farking well what that sentiment expresses, and the blame it implies, and you know just as farking well that it's knowing, informed bullshiat coming from a man who himself suggested that defaulting would be an okay strategic move.

The simpson bowles commission one almost made my nose bleed.

Bowles-Simpson Debt Commission

"He created a bipartisan debt commission. They came back with an urgent report. He thanked them, sent them on their way, and then did exactly nothing."

Ryan sat on that commission. He voted against it. Following his lead, so did the panel's other House Republicans.

Glad to see that get some coverage. If he wants to play ball with that one, the press is going to have to repeat "you were on that commission, if that report was so urgent, why did you vote against it?" quite a lot.

/they won't.
