vpb: Republicans tend to think that you have to wear a white hood and burn crosses to be a racist. Just thinking that black people want welfare because they are worthless and too lazy to work isn't racist to them, that's just the truth. If you think that isn't the truth then that's "political correctness".

Bingo.

Apparently, my family worked very hard to hide their racism from me while I was growing up. I have no idea why they would do that, nor why they would start letting it fly over thirty years later. I now have very little contact with any of them, although I still get those "FW: FW: FW: FW: FW:" emails.

Rev. Skarekroe: The fact that Palin doesn't have anything to do with this convention tells me they HAVE learned something.

They've learned to keep the redneck base out of the spotlight. I can't think of anything else.

For instance, those guys who were throwing peanuts at the black camerawoman saying "this is how we feed animals" got thrown out of the convention instead of being made featured speakers says something.

I you hold racial stereotypes as truths then it is conceivable that you can't see racism....it is just your reality. You sir, are the example of the very thing that you are denying the existence of.

I guess it all depends on your definition of "met" which of course is the past tense of 'meet', as in "I would like to 'meet' your sister", or "I have met your objectives". Not to be confused with "meat" as in "I am eating this meat" or "I am beating my meat."

If one was to carefully diasect the definition of the word "meet" you could say that under the ninth definition I found at this source, that indeed he has never "met" a racist republican. And I quote:

meet 1 (mt)
v. met (mt), meet·ing, meets
v.tr.
1. To come upon by chance or arrangement.
2. To be present at the arrival of: met the train.
3. To be introduced to.
4. To come into conjunction with; join: where the sea meets the sky.
5. To come into the company or presence of, as for a conference.
6. To come to the notice of (the senses): There is more here than meets the eye.
7. To experience; undergo: met his fate with courage.
8. To deal with; oppose: "We have met the enemy and they are ours" (Oliver Hazard Perry).
9. To cope or contend effectively with: meet each problem as it arises.
10. To come into conformity with the views, wishes, or opinions of: The firm has done its best to meet us on that point.
11. To satisfy (a need, for example); fulfill: meet all the conditions in the contract. See Synonyms at satisfy.
12. To pay; settle: enough money to meet expenses.
v.intr.
1. To come together: Let's meet tonight.
2. To come into conjunction; be joined: "East is East, and West is West, and never the twain shall meet" (Rudyard Kipling).
3. To come together as opponents; contend.
4. To become introduced.
5. To assemble.
6. To occur together, especially in one person or entity.

"To cope or contend effectively with"

See, he cannot cope with racists because they are assoles and no one can effectively deal or cope with them. Racists are the dregs of humanity.

So in one way his statement is correct.

Coco LaFemme: They've learned not a damn thing. They've veered even further to the right. If Romney loses this year, 2016 is going to be worse than year, if that's even possible. Every loss to them = not right enough, so they'll swerve even faster in that direction. If this was happening in some other country, it would be hysterical to watch, but since it's happening in the one I live in, it's embarrassing, pathetic, and dangerous.

Which doesn't make a damn bit of sense. Most people are in the middle. So if you need more votes, you have to move to the middle.

There aren't millions of Americans sitting around complaining that the parties aren't extreme enough. Anyone who thinks there are has no understanding of basic statistics. Which is probably part of the problem.

Growing up in the MN, I haven't encountered too many RACISTS. I have encountered plenty of "i'm not racists but," folk.
The suburbs are chock full of folk who make racist jokes and get mad at political correctness if you don't laugh at a grape soda joke.
They also is a big contingent that refuses to go anywhere in the "city" because you will get shot.

Biggest thing I contend with commonly is anti-intellectual or anti-academic Republicans.
Scientists, researchers, and "academics" are all anti american i guess.

I can honestly say I don't know any racist Republicans. All the Republicans I used to know are no longer Republicans, except two. One's dead. The other guy is genuinely not a racist.

I can't speak for other parts of the country, but as a 43 year old male from the southern U.S. I can say from personal experience there are a lot of racist republicans.

As a 30 year old who has lived in Missouri, Wisconsin and Michigan, I can safely say I've never met a Republican that wasn't racist to some degree. They always deny it and say something like "well its true!" Or "stereotypes exist for a reason," but they are all racist.

I've met plenty of boldly racist Rebulicans - my family.

Funny thing about the most extreme down here in FL (non-family) is that the louder they are, the less likely they vote. Full of bile and ready to tell you about it, but too lazy to go pull the lever.

While pathetic, I'm totally OK with that.
