I hope they line up all their Dr. Who whore-actors--the live ones and the dead ones--and make them suffer by watching endless reruns of The Teletubbies. And when it's all over, I hope the littlest Teletubby shouts "Again! Again!"

I really, really would dearly love to see Carol Ann Ford reprise her role as Susan for the 50th anniversary. It would be the most fantastic, amazing thing ever. After all, when Susan left the TARDIS, the Doctor explicitly promised that he would return for her someday. The reason why she's 50 years older than when we'd last seen her is because when she left the TARDIS to stay with her boyfriend, the Doctor changed her nature from a Time Lord to a human using the same kind of fob watch he and the Master used to change into human as well. He'd also erased her memory of ever being a Gallifreyan to protect her from any creature that would ever want to capture or kill a Time Lord.

So, the Doctor comes back to Susan at the end of her human life, reveals her identity to her, reveals the fate of their race, tells her that he is nearing the end of his regenerations, and wants her to change back to Gallifreyan to help carry on the history of his people.

And then...

What is the point of that? Seems like a ratings grab, in the guise of "going back to our roots".

Sure, a special like that could work live.

But, it would have to be done entirely on sets (including optional outdoor sets outside of the soundstage wall), or entirely on location in a fairly limited space and lacking the TARDIS interior -- unless the TARDIS and location remain completely separate, like things were for most of "The Lodger".

It's not just the special effects but the moving around to scenes in different places that make a live episode of DW rather challenging to make well. A bottle episode can work. An absence of most kinds of special effects can work, but both? I suppose we could look at some of the early serials and see ones that would have been possible to do live. I don't know; I'm apprehensive.

Besides, given the nature of the show, all of the actor mistakes would be considered canon and fanboys would debate their significance until the end of time. In the ER live episode, Laura Innes forgot Dr Weaver's crutches or her limp or something for a while. That sort of thing is an actor goof in most shows. In Doctor Who, it would be taken at face value, with repercussions. Imagine if a live episode had been done during the Tenth Doctor era and Tenant had forgotten his accent for a scene.

It will probably be "live" the same way Arrested Development did a "live" episode.

I feel like I'm the only person that can't stand the Matt Smith era. I've tried; I've really tried, but still I can't get into it. It's so painful to watch.

What I'm really looking for is for someone to talk me into pushing through the first Matt Smith season and to promise me it will get better.

odinsposse: A live broadcast of a show that relies heavily on CG and other special effects? That seems like a terrible idea that will just result in a severely watered down and cheap looking episode.

Unless they did something like... I want to call it 'Midnight,' the one where the Doctor and others are in a transport vehicle and something unseen attacks from the outside.

Or perhaps 42 Minutes - all one story on one set.

/now that I think about it, with Midnight and 42 minutes off the table what could they do?

Rory. They did a nice, slow-burn on his character development. He went from someone who made even statements of facts sound like questions to someone who can go up against the Doctor and hold his own just fine.

Hey, Tennant saved many a shiatty script during his time. You won't find me knocking almost anything Tennant does.

I was once in a lift (elevator) in a hotel where there was a Dr Who convention taking place. Carol Ann Ford walked into the lift just as the doors were closing. She pushed the doors apart and shouted "Back you fiends!" in a very Sci-fi manner. It was quite amusing.

I just wish the Doctor would stop being Moffat's personal Gary Stu. He's become a Memetic Sex God who solves problems cleanly and effortlessly without the need for any (permanent) personal sacrifice or serious questioning of his own ideals or methodology. Every finale up to Series 5 involved the Doctor having to come to terms with his priorities and ideals, and saving the day but losing himself or someone he cared about because of it. But then everything got all Reset Button-y and nothing mattered anymore, because they could just go back in time and fix everything like it never happened.

Umm... he said "live event", not "live episode", so, no.

Moffatt *had the season moved* so it could be broadcast on the 50th anniversary, he's not going to take a pointless risk like that.

Expect a "live event" of screaming/goofy fans before and after a perfectly normal REALLY AWESOME BEST EVER episode.
