We need to bulldoze the place and turn it into a National Park, or let them bail themselves out for living in a cheap place that gets nailed every few years.

Well well, when do we get the flood of stories about FEMA opening up the concentration camps in southern Louisiana?

They bought their ticket.
They knew what they were in for.

To be fair, Bush had to be told about problems before he could declare them disasters too.

It's kind of fruitless to point out that the area the hurricane will hit is home to one or the largest ports in the nation and that going by a lot of your reasoning 2/3 of the country would be deserted because it is on a flood plain so I am going to hit links from the partner sites and catch up on the Heidi-Seal divorce.

Sweet Headline Subby. It took me a while to get it. I had to look-up "redundently" multiple times.

I did in fact hear an election judge in maryland discuss how Obama was going to open huge POW camps with his private off-the-books Army back in 2008.

I think the rumors that you're talking about were circulated by congresswoman Cynthia McKinney, so they weren't taken seriously.

All while Northern MN gets repeatedly turned down for Federal funds and has to rely on State help only...well, and residents that can actually help each other.

FTFA: The move makes the federal funding available to state and eligible local governments and certain nonprofit organizations for emergency work in the stricken areas.

What?!? But why doesn't President Obama do something? Isn't FEMA supposed to be there, healing the sick and rocking babies to sleep?!?

Wait, I thought those states rejected the idea of federal intervention in state affairs.

Oh, that's right, that only applies when money flows OUT of the state.

Nobody cares about the Katrina victims. They need help, they're flooded again.

Let the red states stuffer. If they insist on cutting government spending then let them live with the consequences of it.

To be fair, he inherited those states.

Obama should be more sensitive to the concerns of people living in that part of the country. People there believe in independence and self-reliance and reject government assistance and spending.

I'm assuming that you're still distraught and missed the fact that the feds are giving $150 million for infrastructure repair.

Obama signs disaster declaration for northern Minnesota flooding

What is not being covered is the cost of damages to 1700 homes and small businesses, most of which weren't carrying flood insurance. People in a few counties in the north are eligible for low-cost loans from the US Small Business Association.

I do feel for the people who have suffered losses, and I fully support the feds stepping in to provide aid where it's needed after natural disasters. But complaints of this nature remind me of the situation in Oklahoma, where local politicians are whining about lack of federal disaster relief for when wildfires destroyed homes that were mostly uninsured. Sorry, folks, but you can't complain about excessive federal expenditures on the one hand and then cry about lack of help for your unprepared self when you're the one affected. You may as well be one of those "Gov't get out of my Medicare!" morans at that point.

As for places like Plaquemines Parish, which are doomed to get hammered with increasing regularity as a combination of social and natural factors make the areas more vulnerable, I say it's time to make a concerted effort to

- Educate people about the real risks they face (how many more times is the president of Plaquemines parish going to say "It wasn't supposed to be as bad as Katrina" before it sinks in that major hurricane damage is the result of wind PLUS storm surge?). None of what's happened is any surprise to civil engineers and geologists.

- Offer people incentives to move elsewhere, as this has to be cheaper than the cost of saving them and rebuilding over and over.

- Condemning the land as uninhabitable and ineligible for further reconstruction aid after a certain point, as was done on parts of the Mississippi River further upstream. You want to keep your 100-year-old neighborhood going after that, that's on you and you alone.

I agree. If they have to grudginly have to take assistance, then FEMA should tailor it to the region. Like cajun spiced rations. Creole cooking.

Fresh Muffulettas would be nice. Beneits each morning.

On one hand is is washing out those areas, on the other, it is going to bring much needed rain to the Midwest.

All things considered, Isaac was/is a good thing.

That dang Obama; things were supposed to be different. Yet, here we are again. Obama hates black people. It's so obvious; he's not even in a row boat, trying to help people.
