Graffito: Why isn't the most recent republican president at invited to this convention?

I'm not sure if most Americans realized the profundity of that.

No recent POTUS, no recent VP and no former VP nominee invited. That alone should make one question the integrity of the party.

The GOP's new revised version of history states quite categorically that NOTHING AT ALL HAPPENED BETWEEN 2001 AND 2009. Except for nine-eleven.

Also while Dick Cheney recently had a heart installed, there are reports that the donor heart is rejecting Mr. Cheney.

SuperNinjaToad: Listening to the RNC speeches, one would think that before 2008 the USA was a country where everyone was a multi-millionaire with perfect health, zero crime, unconditionally loved world over and everyone is as happy as a Trig Palin in a crayon factory. Basically from 1776 to 2008 America was the perfect utopia until the damn muslin Kenya destroyed EVERYTHING!!!

clevershark: The GOP's new revised version of history states quite categorically that NOTHING AT ALL HAPPENED BETWEEN 2001 AND 2009. Except for nine-eleven.

The GOP has made it clear that their plan to winning this year is to focus on "low-information" voters -ie, morons- who haven't paid attention to politics and who can be easily influenced.

Sadly, it seems to be working.

Well, I mean there's only a few options still left alive. George W and Cheney likely still poll poorly, and their term is too recent for them to get elder statesman status. Other than that, George HW is supposedly in poor health, so he obviously wouldn't be there, I haven't heard that Bob Dole has been having health problems, but he's likely no spring chicken either. Dan Quayle is still out there somewhere, but he's neither important nor memorable enough to be featured prominently at one of these things. Everyone else is dead.

But it's not like Democrats aren't constantly waffling about whether or not they want to be associated with Bill Clinton, and you rarely see anyone bring up Al Gore in a political context anymore. I don't think I've seen of heard about Walter Mondale or Mike Dukakis in almost 30 years. I do think they have Jimmy Carter scheduled to speak at the convention, but I'm sure the GOP would have brought in George HW in a similar sort of role if it wasn't for his health.

I had to work late tonight, so I missed the whole thing, but I heard some of NPR's wrap-up as I was driving home from the Metro. They had the floor feed on in the background as they were doing the post-mortem. Someone even mentioned "There's another band playing" as they were talking. I could tell it was a band with horns, playing instrumental versions of hits of the late 70s-80s.

After yesterday's peanut incident, and all the veiled racism on-stage, and Condi Rice's speech today, can you guess what the third song was?

Go on, guess.

[waiting... waiting...]

OK, swear to Gawd it was....

Jungle Boogie

I am so totally not kidding, it really happened.

LOL. Yeah, we'd be so much better with Caribou Barbie and Grandpa John at the wheel. And now we should "fix" things by electing a job exporter and tax dodger to fix our economy and tax problems. Farking retarded.

BTW, Obama's going to win again and everyone knows it.

Yeah. Let's look at the trend:

North Carolina is now a tossup after leaning slightly toward Romney before. Florida, Ohio, Iowa -- all are leaning Obama. Rmoney has a huge electoral hill to climb and his giant money advantage has done absolutely nothing for him so far. The Ryan VP pick gave him ZERO bump. You're in fantasy land, dude, as you clearly have been for a long time, based on what Darth Macho just dug up.

I so can not wait for election night @ about 10:30 when they call this for Obama. The Freeptardish meltdown is going to be one of the best reality shows, ever.

For a change, the 'Mainstream MSM media' seems like they might actually be calling out the R's for what they're doing, and calling it lying - its glorious and its JUST getting started. I seriously don't think Rmoney can buy his way into office after this clusterfark of a convention performance, thus far. Just LISTEN to the tepid, at best, response of those people. 3/4 of Republicans didn't want this guy to be their nominee anyway.. just wait until the DNC and the debates, I doubt Obama polls anything less than 4-5 points ahead Nationally once the DNC occurs, and I bet he holds that trend through to election day. I so am looking forward to voting and to sitting down to a splendiferous night of conservative meltdown coverage.

Obama underdelivered. Yes, that's disappointing. We're still voting for him and he's still going to win because the Republican Party has NOTHING. They came to this test without their homework and cribbed all of their notes off the Tea Party, who got a C- 2 years ago.

Relax, stop posting and prepare for electoral tears. And don't come back in 4 years.

To head off a '68-esque meltdown touched off by angry Paul devotees. They could have done much worse to the RNC than just making some noise and doing a walkout - then again, there's still one day to go... and so far, the anarchists almost seem too bored to bother making a ruckus outside. The only protest-related news I've heard is that million-dollar drones and armies of riot troopers are defending democracy from... about 100 people.

Rmoney's coronation speech is coming. They could still find a way to turn the whole thing into an even bigger farce. Maybe Eastwood will turn out to be a secret Paulite who turns on Rmoney on stage and manages to sunder the party with one speech.

Come on, RNC. Live up to my wildest expectations.

PlatinumDragon: To head off a '68-esque meltdown touched off by angry Paul devotees. They could have done much worse to the RNC than just making some noise and doing a walkout

From what I understood, they simply didn't have the delegates to do much more than get ejected.

But still, the video managed to be the most aggressive and convincing part of the entire day of speeches, and for the wrong farking guy. They could have dumped half that production value into getting Artur Davis a speechwriter that speaks English and been ten times as productive. I get that they wanted to pander to RONPAUL, but it's just insane to have his tribute be better than two solid days of pumping the actual nominee.

Making their ejection nasty, embarassing, and spectacularly public would have been enough to badly damage the party for at least this election cycle. Picture a couple hundred people occupying the stage and basically daring the RNC organizers to have them dragged off in front of cameras and reporters from basically every news organization in the US, and many from elsewhere.

The RNC dodged a disaster so far, especially after the rules were changed specifically to blunt the Paulites' efforts at taking over state party organizations even though they weren't going to be successful enough to change the outcome. Either they're simply too demoralized to make much more of a stink, or they're organizing a real nasty surprise for tomorrow. I'll guarantee the party establishment is hitting the knees practically begging for the latter tonight.

It's an extremely long-shot wild guess, the worst possible outcome for the party from likely and rumoured upcoming events I can imagine outside of a Paulite revolt that gets physical and ugly.

Libs, why the undying love for Obama? What has he done? No jobs, rising debt, crazy spending and he's been campaigning for the last two years instead of trying to fix it. Fark, if he wins again, will he STILL blame Bush after 8 years?

If there's a problem with the standards of teaching in the US it's not because of teacher's unions, you ignorant creationist farktards. It's because you Republican assholes continually cut funding for schools, and also because ever since Newt Gingrich put out his "Contract on America" you coonts have been trying to abolish the US Department of Education.

*reads huge chunks of thread*

A'ight, so once again a batch of lukewarm speakers hardly mentioning Romney and continuing to double down on every single lie they've woven into their derp narrative including the centerpiece "You didn't build that" derp?

So didn't miss much then?

Worst part of the "We built that" derp is that it's so disrespectful of America.

Not accrediting the country you built your business in for being a decent place to start a business, with decent infrastructure, police, military, courts, laws, currency, electrical grid, internet etc etc etc is basically saying "Fark You America, you mean nothing to me".

And yet these are the same guys who brand themselves "Real Americans" and "patriots".

You can't explain that.
