Oh god. That fat guy should not be dancing.

Although I felt his Saturday Night Fever discoesque rendition of hillbilly dancing was pretty spot on.

AverageAmericanGuy: Hey, that's the SNL guitarist guy!

G.E.Smith?

Is here really there?

csb

He was in Roger Waters band when he toured in 2010-2011 doing "The Wall". Saw it in Philly in a suite. I thought I recognized him on stage and looked it up the next day and sure as shiat, it was him.

Popcorn Johnny: Palin was a horrible mistake and the McCain campaign lost control of her. Watch the HBO movie Game Change if you get the chance.

Game Change *almost* makes Sarah Palin into a sympathetic figure.

*Almost*

Watch those middle-aged white people get down with their bad self.

Lost Thought 00: I look forward to the epic bloodbath between Huckabee (or his anointed champion, Santorum), Christie, and Ryan for the 2016 nomination.

Isn't Huckleberry building a media empire over in the space left by Glenn Beck?

That would be horrifying if someone could build up those cult like followers and use it to not just make a fortune but win the highest office in the land.

I saw that show! I also have a surround-sound multi-cam bootleg from that tour. Breathtaking.

You know, according to the GOP, it's only three-fifths of a house.

OK, GE Smith and the band...just a paid gig, or believers? Because if they're believers, ask them about whether pot and coke possession should be felonies.

Sounded like it was more of a project home. She's not homeless now or anything.

/I should be more sympathetic I suppose, but it's below sea level and attracts hurricanes, you know what you were paying for.

Earguy: Hitchhikes with dog: "...third generation..."

Ahh, a bootstrappy, built it himself sort of guy.

Yeah, talk to my friend who lost a 3rd-generation business during the Bush administration, and is now $1M in debt, and trying to sell real estate to feed his family and bring it back.

Personally, my business crashed right before the last election, and I'm almost paid off the $100k in debt I racked up hoping to make a go of it.

I'm with you, brother. My shingle has been flying for two and a half years now. I don't credit the government for the good months, nor do I blame it for the bad ones.

/I hope you make a go of it again. But regardless, be proud of the attempt.

Mitt Romney works hard and takes risks?

Am I in the same universe as these people? String Theory?

Romney will watch my life savings!???????

The ROMNEY ROMNEY chanting isn't really as strong as one would hope at this point in the convention.

He really does hate success

Given that the music was basically the equivalent of that, not much has changed.

Late to the party, but damn, that McCain speech was frightening! I hope he was just having a senior moment rather than seriously describing Romney's foreign policy platform.

Video & transcript of Bomb Iran and Syria speech for anyone who missed it.

Ugh. When did McCain become such a hideous neo-con? To think this doddering old warmonger could be the president right now. o_O

Nah, too much of a risk at my age. I also lost all my retirement savings. I'll be working until I physically can't anymore, then I'll go on public assistance.

Or maybe I'll take a dream trip to the Grand Canyon and have a tragic accident.

8% unemployment for 4 years. That's 32% unemployment!

And that's terrible.

Congrats Republicans. Thanks to this convention, I have made a political contribution for the first time in my life.

Spend it wisely, Barack.

2012-08-29 09:04:04 PM
Wait - if Mitt becomes part of government, wouldn't he, by default, move at government speed?

2012-08-29 09:04:18 PM
Democrats FDR and Truman won a World War in 4 years, and two bipartisan administrations can't get us out of the middle east wars. Work on your references, dude.

AverageAmericanGuy: The ROMNEY ROMNEY chanting isn't really as strong as one would hope at this point in the convention.

Well, the crowd is trending fairly elderly, and so with the lack of mention in speakers' speeches of the candidate himself, perhaps they keep forgetting who is running?

2012-08-29 09:04:35 PM
Watching this speech, I can see why Romney didn't pick him for VP

2012-08-29 09:04:44 PM

Popcorn Johnny: shastacola: Popcorn Johnny: clevershark: I liked McCain back when I could believe that he had principles. His White House run cured me of that opinion.

McCain ran the classiest campaign that I ever remember. He even went out of his way to defend Obama when some of the loonys were getting really nasty.

While his vice presidential pick was accusing Obama of palling around with terrorists.

Palin was a horrible mistake and the McCain campaign lost control of her. Watch the HBO movie Game Change if you get the chance.

What they "lost control " over when she accused Obama was the roll out they wanted for the introduction of Bill Ayers:

However, a November 2008 article appearing in Newsweek told a different version of the Ayers story. Newsweek reported that among campaign staff "[t]here was grumbling that Palin had jumped the gun by bringing up Ayers at her rallies before the campaign could properly do the groundwork with a rollout strategy and ads. (At one rally, she had talked about Obama 'palling around with terrorists.')...One adviser later speculated that she impulsively talked about Ayers because she felt thwarted - she had really wanted to bring up the Rev. Jeremiah Wright. (Actually, Palin was feeling hurt and angry over the tabloid treatment of her 17-year-old daughter Bristol, and decided - on her own - that Ayers should be fair game. McCain's advisers were working on a strategy that would launch an Ayers attack the following week...)"

Imperialism: Congrats Republicans. Thanks to this convention, I have made a political contribution for the first time in my life.

I remember in 2008, hundreds of Farkers (including myself) donated to Obama's campaign just based on Guiliani's speech alone.

God-is-a-Taco: Obama never worked in business? That bastard.

It's amazing how the Repubs are trying to make being a CEO as somehow equivalent to running a nation. Hey wasn't their last guy the head of a couple businesses than he ran into the farking ground?

2012-08-29 09:05:20 PM
Is this their main tactic to make Obama the dumbest of the dumb, dumber than even W?

What am I saying, I know the answer already.

2012-08-29 09:05:31 PM

He was Dylan's bandleader for a few years during the 80s. When Dylan fired him, he took most of the band back to SNL as the house band. Don't know how many of them are still there.
