Will-Mun: Wow... did... did he admit that the Military Budget is bloated? I mean, slightly imply it?

Wait to be shocked until they come up with stuff that needs to be cut beyond "fraud, waste, or abuse" or "pesky regulations".

....Hey how much did Bush end up spending? Oh... Oh we don't talk about that here? Sorry.

Bush spent ass-loads more than that on wars and bailouts and smoochy contracts for MIC, but whatevs, right?

We remember barely twenty-four hours anymore, no?

T-Servo: karmaceutical: noblewolf: Frank and Beans: Republicans are waging a War on Women.

Other than the abortion issue, how are they waging a war on women? Are they removing the right to vote? Are they loosing jobs if the Republicans win? Exactly what are they going to loose?

I'm interested in your facts on the issue.

/I'm being serious. How are women going to suffer.

What do you mean "other than" the abortion issue?? The whole freaking abortion issue is the embodiment of the concept that a woman's standing in less than a male's. Their just trying to legislate it that way. All the other "right to life" claptrap is just... claptrap. Otherwise, all these religious types would be pacifist Quakers or something.

No kidding. That's sort of a, "Other than that, how was the play, Mrs. Lincoln?" question.

Heh. Or maybe, "Other than the institution of slavery, what gave black folks such a rough time in early America?" Or some other ridiculous thing.

Corvus: noblewolf: I do not know of any laws that are trying to be passed by anyone that would limit a womans rights other than the abortion issues which I disagree with. As for equal pay for genders, that should already be in the discrimination laws. Any woman has the right to sue for discrimination based on gender. Passing or not passing a law stating so is just another law that is just not being enforced. Enforce the ones they have now. And as for Akins, every party has their morons. To say otherwise is just false. So I ask again, other than the abortion issue, what are the republican party doing to wage war on women. There has to be more than that? The abortion issue is decades old, and I don't foresee any laws that can be passed that will pass a supreme court trial for constitutionality. I appreciate your input, even though others think I'm trying to troll.

Dude people have listed it. You are ignoring what people have told you. Yes it's discrimination but the Republicans try to pass laws that make it impossible for you to actually sue.

Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act of 2009

Also they don't think contraception for women should be considered standard healthcare for women. That was brought up, which you also ignored. You also ignored many other issues that were listed.

Don't bother whoever it is is a plant. They weren't honestly asking a question in the first place. They weren't looking to be informed. They had decided on the answer beforehand and are seeking a debate. A debate which they will lose, and the refuse to acknowledge the loss so it's a waste of time really.

What would a Romney presidency actually be like? Serious question. He hasn't outlined anything specific he would do other than repeal Obamacare on day one...and since the president doesn't have that power...

What would he actually do? Pass whatever the republicans can get through the Senate?

Indubitably: King Something: "You didn't build that."

Apparently, business success is how roads are paved.

Actually, um, without the centralized government of the United States of America, these businesses would never have existed, for they rely on the central currency and central protection of the assets which have been provided at great cost over the centuries, so the whole Rresponse is uneducated and arrogant at best. AND, you keep trumpeting it?

Are you daft?

I was reporting what Rand Paul was saying. He said that paved roads don't lead to business success, and I half-jokingly suggested that he's implying that the roadways which lead to a successful place of business don't get built until after the business has proven successful.

You seem to be unfamiliar with my particular style of snark. I tend to do that. But don't worry, I'm not gonna vote for any member of the party which would make it illegal for me to drive without a passport.

noblewolf: Do you think sex between a 19 year old and a 17 year old is rape? Should someone who has been dating in high school for 3 years be branded a rapist, for something that he was allowed to do before he was 18? Rape is horrible, and anyone who commits rape (the kind where it is not consensual ) should be set on fire and used as feed for a hog farm. I will have to research more on the force able and non-force able rape the Republicans are talking about.

Psst in most state what you list is not statutory rape either. You should understand how the laws actually work.

Hmm you sound very concerned.

/I'm being serious. How are women going to suffer.

Birth control access, healthcare access in general, vaginal probes, removal of the Violence Against Women Act, removal of Equal Pay laws, making it legal for US contractors overseas to literally rape their female employees, removal of title 9, removal of any sort of financial assistance for single mothers, making it legal to rape a women if she gets pregnant, making it illegal of private insurance to cover rape abortions or birth control, removal of funding for rape survivor counseling, jailing of any women who miscarries and can't prove it was natural, making it legal for a hospital to give an abortion to woman who will die without it even if the fetus is dead, legalizing rape since it's a gift from God, forced vaginal probing of women against their will, banning of pre-natal care, declaring single mothers as child abusers legally, allow anyone at your company access to a woman's medical records so they can tell if she's a slut or not, making it harder to leave an abusive marriage, removing woman's suffrage, and that's just off the top of my head over the last year.

No no no, you're absolutely correct, I just re-watched the vid and did a bit of digging to watch more of the video. This video I linked is being portrayed out of context and not in its entirety. It did look as though they were booing her, but in fact they were saying "Seat them now", and chanting "USA" over a different matter. I do stand corrected.

Yeah, I'm not a big fan of how it's been reported. The real story is worse.
The RNC refused to seat the Paul delegates, throwing the voters away to promote a false sense of unity under Romney.
Not a fan of Paul, but those people deserved to be seated.

Most Americans don't build anything. They're just happy to see people that do build stuff pay more into the general welfare.

This is a losing issue, Republicans. There are far more customers than builders.

2012-08-29 07:47:20 PM

Earguy: Since they're sticking with the "we built that" theme, I'll repost this, and do with it what you may.

Let's go to the transcript. Here's what the president said on July 13:

"Look, if you've been successful, you didn't get there on your own. You didn't get there on your own. I'm always struck by people who think, well, it must be because I was just so smart. There are a lot of smart people out there. It must be because I worked harder than everybody else. Let me tell you something -- there are a whole bunch of hardworking people out there.

If you were successful, somebody along the line gave you some help. There was a great teacher somewhere in your life. Somebody helped to create this unbelievable American system that we have that allowed you to thrive. Somebody invested in roads and bridges. If you've got a business -- you didn't build that. Somebody else made that happen. The Internet didn't get invented on its own. Government research created the Internet so that all the companies could make money off the Internet."

Here's the excerpt from Romney's speech:

"Tonight we cheer the Olympians, who only yesterday were children themselves," Romney said. "As we watch them over the next 16 days, we affirm that our aspirations, and those of our children and grandchildren, can become reality. We salute you Olympians - both because you dreamed and because you paid the price to make your dreams real. You guys pushed yourself, drove yourself, sacrificed, trained and competed time and again at winning and losing."

"You Olympians, however, know you didn't get here solely on your own power," said Romney, who on Friday will attend the Opening Ceremonies of this year's Summer Olympics. "For most of you, loving parents, sisters or brothers, encouraged your hopes, coaches guided, communities built venues in order to organize competitions. All Olympians stand on the shoulders of those who lifted them. We've already cheered the Olympians, let's also cheer the pa ...

AverageAmericanGuy: Military spending should be cut too.

Maybe this is something we can discuss rationally and come up with a reasonable compromise that puts us in a better position going into this 21st century.

NAH...

Even between 2009 when the Democrats controlled the Presidency, House, and Senate, the military budget was not cut.

Let's face it; it's never going to happen. The people who benefit from the bloated military budget are firmly in charge and are going to make it continue to grow.

It's an interesting question, as when he was gov of Massachusetts, he was politically to the left of Barack Obama. He's repositioned himself to the Right, but he seems to be driven by opinion polls, so he'd be likely to go with whatever the majority of people want.

Paul Ryan voted against equal pay for women and the republican governor of Wisconsin actually repealed it.

In Arizona, republicans have created what I call a Schrodinger's womb. In Arizona a woman is now legally pregnant two weeks before conception. But she isn't actually pregnant. But legally she is. So she both is and is not pregnant until she has sex, then the wavefunction collapses.

Then there is the esteemed senator Akin who believes women's bodies are pregnany-from-rape proof. That disipicable moron also happens to sit on the house science committee (More like the house derp committee amirite?)

That's jsut what I can think of off the top of my head but there you go

So then, you are obviously outraged at the Obama administration, where women make less on average than men, right? I want to hear you say it- Obama is a sexist because he pays women less on average. Or does Obama get a pass on issues of equal pay?

I know it quite well. Unless you're a conservative that thinks infrastructure, business loans, education and all that spring naturally from the ground as if they were grass, that segment of his speech says exactly the opposite of what these clearly amoral consultants, advisors, proxies and politicians claim it does by virtue of their edit.
