QT_3.14159: BalugaJoe: Speed Racer was such crap.

It was not. It was amazing. Heartfelt and a perfect translation by fans who loved the source material and understood the emotions related to the loss of a child.

It was not. It was visual nonsense and barely watchable by anyone with a working frontal lobe.

I think they might have a chance at it... and by chance I mean 'not totally farking it up'.

Though... a superhero movie is only as good as it's antagonists. Who would be the bad guy(s)?

Lex Luthor and Tigra?

Outside of Superman and Batman, the protagonists aren't that great either.

Klippoklondike:
I think they could do a decent superhero movie, especially since Joss Whedon did a decent job and I normally hate his work.

Yeah, but Whedon had the benefit of a strong foundation for Avengers. He didn't have to saddle any origin stories into his flick, since most of the characters' backstory was covered in previous films. That's one of the reasons why it worked so well. Look at X-Men: while a decent flick, it's farking boring. All exposition about who they are and crap. Takes too long to get moving. That's why X2 was so much better, all the crap is out of the way and you just get to Wolverine cracking skulls.

Justice League is going to have a much harder time of maintaining a decent pace and story flow if they have to talk about each of the heroes and who they are.

Plus, with the exception of the Goddamn Batman, DC superheroes are just farking lame. But you still need Superman and Batman as the keystone of the group. You can't do Justice League without them. If DC wants to do it right, then they need to follow Marvel and do a full universe of movies. Which would be awesome, but this is DC...when's the last time they did something right.

/besides killing Jason Todd.

Most of their animated stuff is pretty damn good, especially a lot of the one-shot stuff they've been releasing to video.

Why they can't translate that awesomeness to real people is a mystery to me.

/Part of me thinks that too many of the villain archetypes hit too close to home in the DC universe. Example: People would be upset with a well done corporate Luthor
//The other part of me thinks that doing well done DC superhero effects would cost far too much money. Having a real person fly around and do the crazy stunts that Superman can do and not look retarded is tricky

It's now being reported that Brett Ratner (X-Men 3) is being considered.

It should be 'Batman and the Justice League' to leverage off Bats name recognition. Maybe Batman finds a cosmic threat and he recruits Supes, WW, GL, Flash and lets say Black Canary. You can have Bats approaching them after each has a moment to shine and show off their abilities. When they ask how he knew them and their secret identities he can say he's the World's Greatest Detective. They band together, face adversity and win.

That introduces the characters without an origin and showcases Batman. Let's face it, his name will drive the non-comic viewers to attend.

I know Nolan won't be directing, but isn't he producing the Justice League stuff?

Anyway, do you really have to do origin stories in something like this? Batman and Superman's origins have been done to death, and frankly I couldn't give fark all about the origins of the other superheros.

Shadowtag: Empty Matchbook:
///Scuttlebutt says Batman Earth-1 graphic novel is the direction for the reboot
////and it's PRETTY awesome

I read some of that this morning and I sure as hell hope not. The expressions on Alfred's grizzled world-weary face alone made me close the book for a while.

/And WTF's with Bullock?

Yeah, Gary Frank does amazing "grizzled, haggard" facial expressions.

Will Lana Wachowski suddenly stop production midway through and transform it into an Avengers movie?

Well Superman's origins will be done yet again in next year's movie. the Green Lantern's origins were done in last year's movie, the one that sort of flopped (not flopped exavtly but no one's foaming at the mouth for more GL). Wonder Woman had her TV show last year for about 20 minutes and Aqua Man is...Aqua Man. Yup, The Avengers they are not.
