That reminds me of the time that Chris Farley and Norm MacDonald forgot how to poop.

I don't get all the Seth hate.

Family Guy never really did it for me, but IMHO American Dad is the funniest toon around.

The unofficial fark rules state that you can only be a fan of the first two seasons of a cartoon.

Seth isn't his own musical accompaniment? You know he's going to do some Sinatra or show tunes.

I don't think that is much of a prerequisite to hosting SNL...not by a long shot...

I don't watch SNL nearly enough to know ... but is this the first time that someone more known as a show/film creator/director rather than an actor been an SNL host? Genuinely curious.

Glad to see Frank Ocean get the music spot as well.

/Thinks Ted was hilarious
//American Dad is also pretty good

I'm with you. In fact, I recently watched the South Park seasons backwards and slowly saw how bad some of the early seasons could be. Well, I guess "bad" isn't the word. But most of their political messages were painfully ham fisted back in the day.

Family Guy, et al, I liked at first, and then hated when a core group of friends adopted them as a lifestyle. Every conversation revolved around it and I got sick of it. I've since made my peace with the MacFarlane franchise.

Great, so every skit in that episode will include at least one instance of "it's like that time I was..."

No Frank Ocean is that dude who robbed that casino in vegas.

Seriously though, was the star of an NBC sitcom not available, or perhaps an Olympic gold medalist (Phelps, Franklin, one of the Gymnast girls, or Usain Bolt)?

I'm a Family Guy fan, but I don't see this one going too far. They're still limited to amateur writer/actors and guided by censors.

This, but, as McFarlane admits, he hasn't been involved in AD except as a voice in years. I could be wrong, but I seem to recall he hasn't written much for it since the deadly first half season.

Family Guy has been running on fumes for years but Ted was definitely a funny movie.

Having said that, I find the man himself to be a preening douche. Listen to the audio commentary during the episode of FG where Quagmire rapes Marge Simpson and kills off the rest of the Simpson family. His tantrum over Fox making him cut that bit makes Chris Crocker look dignified in comparison. I'll probably give this a miss.

Yeah, American Dad one of my favourite shows. It surpassed Family Guy about 3 seasons ago.

Actually I retract my previous statement, the creator of Family Guy is the perfect host for a show like SNL. Since both shows do not at all hold up to the test of time. I mean at least for SNL it is because it is mostly political or pop-culture humour, but has anyone ever tried to watch an older episode of family guy. Other than maybe a handful of episodes, they are painful to watch more than once.

2012-08-29 04:00:42 PM
His voice acting as the Emperor in the Robot Chicken Star Wars episodes is the best thing he's ever done.

Family Guy takes Star Wars movies and runs through them scene by scene, Robot Chicken actually explores the consequences of actions, third party characters, and day to day life of the "Universe" instead. And it's hilarious.

Case in point

Well, while you all are arguing over whether Seth MacFarlane is or has ever been funny, I'll just take a moment to say that Frank Ocean's album is really good and worth checking out. I'm not usually an R&B fan, it generally puts me to sleep, but Channel Orange is interesting and has a great sound.

I don't get why anyone like anything from the OF crew. Subjective and all but I'd like to know what people see in it. Try some Bilal. Not the most timely recommendation but you might like it regardless.

Actually that's kind of thick of me. I don't like the strung out, delivery of high school sociopath lyrics that accompany the side projects and group. Franks RnB isn't too bad.

I know you probably meant to say that the Family Guy parodies aren't as good, but the parody of Empire Strikes back is still one of the funniest things I've ever seen. Just like the original trilogy, second is the best and third is by far the worst.

Well yes, that's precisely what I was saying. Family Guy runs through the movies scene by scene, Robot Chicken goes a step further. Robot Chicken Star Wars Specials > Family Guy Star Wars Specials.

Did FG do another parody of Empire Strikes Back? Because I remember watching "Something Something Dark Side" with a bunch of friends. We sat through the whole thing in stone cold silence, all of us looking at each other with "is it just me or is this not the slightest bit funny?" expressions on our faces. The was pretty much the last time we ever put on anything Family Guy related.

Thats what my friends and I watched and we didn't stop laughing. We still call each other Nerf Hurders. My GF and I use the response of "Fark off" when the other says I love you. Did you watch it after a funeral or something?

No. But one of the friends had just gotten back from Afghanistan and we were drunk and primed to laugh. We all loved Blue Harvest. And yeah, we did chuckle at Peter/Han's "fark you" line. Apart from that, nothing.

I must respectfully disagree. South Park stopped being funny after around the sixth or seventh season, when comedy took a back seat to pushing the envelope of obnoxiousness, just to see what Parker and Stone could get away with.

South Park still has its moments, but they're few and far between.
