Gay (G) should cover off the L also. Heck G should cover off Gay/Gay adjacent. (B). Transgender is legitimate but what about intersex (I).

Poison Appleseeds: these ones?

Link

The linguist Arnold Zwicky, writing on the Language Log, says that apparently the use of "these ones" is widespread in Britain, where it's not considered odd or nonstandard at all.

The situation is less clear in our neck of the woods. Is it acceptable in the US or not?

Educated users of the language seem to differ, and your opinion many depend on where you grew up, according to Zwicky.

"It's possible that in North America 'these/those ones' is a variant in the gray area between standard and nonstandard - fully acceptable to educated middle-class speakers in some areas, but not fully acceptable, though not actually stigmatized, to such people in other areas," he writes.

Like many questions of English usage, this one has a fuzzy answer. We can't find any evidence that "these ones" is grammatically incorrect. The only reason to discourage it is that many - perhaps most - Americans find it objectionable.

That sounds like a dull bunch, actually. Let's hope some of them are going for the after-parties.

I like that better. LGBT just looks like other acronyms it takes me a few minutes to remember what it is every time I read it. Would someone alert the gays to this change?

I think it is based on whatever your identifying gender is. So if you're male to female and like men, you're straight but if you're male to female and like women, you're a lesbian or just a transvestite who digs on chicks

But bisexual is not the same as Gay, and some transgender people are till attracted to whatever the opposite of their 'defining' sex is. So no, it's not the same. As for Lesvian vs. Gay, not sure why those became two separate entities, pretty much the same, except for the participants on that one.

At this time, SCOTUS has not scheduled to hear Prop 8 - and because the 9th Ciruit. applied it to California only, they may very well just let it stand. Not yet known at this time.

More complex than that. You could be living an asexual or closeted lifestyle (going against your gender preference) and you could be with another transgender or intersex person. It gets too farking complicated too farking quickly.

The full current acronym is LGBTQI. I think queer covers all the bases, but can be seen as derogatory in certain contexts. However, we can always go with Queerfolk, it makes them sound like magical forest creatures.

Every single person who doesn't identify as straight identifies themselves differently - for example, I prefer "Gay woman" but others prefer "Lesbian," even though they're the same thing. As a result, it's just easier to generalise. Sure, he was definitely wrong when he equated "Gay" with "Transgendered," but you won't win yourself any favours by getting pissed off about it.

See, that just sounds like people who fark ghosts. :P

If it was up to me, it'd probably be GBTO (for other). Fact is, there are so many different sexualities that we could list off the full alphabet twice over without covering all of them.
