We gutted welfare in the 90's. It's mostly dead. What's to discuss?

Welfare should not be a talking point. They gutted it in the 90's. Then they did NOTHING about the remainder despite solid majorities in the Senate, House, and owning the Presidency. I have zero pity.

Because their whole honest debate on welfare is to scapegoat brown people as inferior people who are adicted to welfare because they are too lazy to work?

That could have something to do with it.

upload.wikimedia.org

Or maybe the fact that the current "debate" on welfare is the same old racist argument with the explicit references to race replaced by allusions to race.

The Republicans have just been trying to have an honest debate

This is where I started laughing a lot.

Include corporate welfare in the debate and you have a deal.

I think for the most part it's the racist republicans who are accusing the democrats of accusing the republicans of racism.

Seriously. Why can't you Republicans stop flat out lying? It's getting farking ridiculous.

Because asking "When are those lazy minorities going to quit crying and get a job?" doesn't consistute honest debate.

Yeah, you Republicans missed me, din't you?

Y'all need a big, po' black, cadillac drivin' chitlin eatin' biatch to spook them white folks with. Biatches.

Because while the majority of welfare recipients in this country are poor whites, that doesn't fit the narrative they [the GOP] need. When they talk about welfare, they don't want you to picture Cletus and his wife/cousin June with their 13 kids in Twiddle-your-Ballsack, Kentucky. They want you to think of black people driving around in new cars with spinners, wearing big, fat dookie chains, buying 40s and listening to Jay-Z. Because if they can make you think about the "others" and how they "abuse" welfare, they can make it easier for you to vote for getting rid of it, even if you need it too. You're not going to think about your family needing food stamps every month, you're going to think about Shani'qua and her 5 baby-daddies.

THAT'S how the GOP has destroyed the lower class in this country. They've convinced them to vote against their interests, even at their own peril.

2012-08-29 02:10:14 PM
Romney needs 61% of the white vote this time around. That's really freaking high.

Be prepared for a crapload of racist dog-whistles in the next 69 days. That's the only way Romney is going to win.

The interesting thing is that Twiddle-your-Ballsack, KY is 72.4% Republican.

An honest debate would have started with Daniel Patrick Moynihan's 1965 Moynihan Report. And he was a Democrat.

Lets honestly talk about the DoD budget, corporate welfare, and a farked tax system. Then we can talk about welfare reform and the deficit.

2012-08-29 03:01:13 PM
You want to do away with welfare? You want to be the party of family values GOP? Then pass a law that says that everybody who has an extended family member on welfare has to take that person in and support him or her and their crotch spawn. Most people on welfare are related to at least one person who is not.

Is cousin Cletus a danger to your wife and kids, and it's not your fault he's lazy? OK, the state will take him off your hands. Now STFU about welfare.

Isn't it true that this idea of giving the states some control over their welfare programs originally came from the Repubs? I'd love someone to give me a source on this.

And btw, it is a fact that the entire welfare program, top to bottom, accounts for less than 1% of the federal budget. So tell me again how all those welfare queens are breaking the back of 'murica.

"She has eighty names, thirty addresses, twelve Social Security cards and is collecting veteran's benefits on four non-existing deceased husbands. And she is collecting Social Security on her cards. She's got Medicaid, getting food stamps, and she is collecting welfare under each of her names. Her tax-free cash income is over $150,000." Ronald Reagan, 1976

Honest debate.

the fraud of welfare is miniscule compared to the fraud in the military, farming, and bank bail-outs.

Daniel Patrick Moynihan wrote the Negro family report in 1965. He predicted the failure of the black family structure and it's inevitable fall into deeper poverty. What he did not fully predict was that the welfare support would accelerate this situation and then trap a majority of blacks and a lot of whites as well. when Clinton signed workfare it started a successful reversal of this pattern. This is just a thinly veiled way to return the situation back to where it was before Clinton and the Republican lead House fixed it. You have to be honest with yourselves and see that this is nothing more than a payback to his poor backers and the Unions. The poor are concentrated in Democratic stronghold States and will not require them to work. The work they did will be turned into Union jobs to be handed out as favors.

To be fair, it's really, really challenging to have a debate about Welfare with a Republican when their definition of "Welfare" is "Government money other people get" and/or "Government Spending on stuff I don't like."

"Shut down everything" doesn't really count as debate, per se....

Are you talking about the flexibility that states asked for? States with Republican governors?

2012-08-29 03:12:42 PM
I'd give them the benefit of the doubt but they keep proving me wrong at every turn. You have to be a gotdam idiot to ignore the fact that they ran up the deficit on their watch with the give-away to big pharma in the Medicare Part-D entitlement while leaving seniors in the donut hole. They're nothing but a bunch of douche bags.

They never gave a shiat about borrowing from China or running up the national debt until the day Obama was elected. Then they suddenly found their religion. F*cking scumbags.

F*ck you, tea baggers.

the poor are everywhere. it's particularly bad in rural states where support infrastructure is harder to access. here's a link to per-capita welfare recipients by state. i think you'll find that it's fairly evenly staggered between red and blue states.

They are not. GOP's policy on welfare is based upon scaring people with their misbegotten belief that people who are very poor are that way because it's their own damn fault and they deserved to be punished by being absolutely destitute. Giving them a mere pittance to survey on to get them on the way to self reliance is just rewarding them for their own choices that single handily put them in the position they are in.

It's a basic offshoot of the "fark you, I got mine" doctrine.
