FTA: One thing he won't be doing will be revealing his genitals in Nymphomanica, with Von Trier using body doubles.

I thought he said he was having "Real sex" in the Von Trier film? Why would he be having real sex in a scene where nothing is shown? Sounds like someone is shya.

Look, I give the kid credit. I really do.

Think about it: Most child stars get thrown out with the bathwater once they hit puberty, but he managed to hang on, and crack through. And after he realized that doing the big, stupid, Michael Bay-brand action crap he was being spoon-fed was no way to go, he made the conscious choice to do smaller, more interesting stuff where he actually got to stretch a little, and challenge himself. And now he's going a step further by emulating the people he looks up to.

Is he my favorite actor? No. Did he take a nice big dump on the "Indiana Jones" series? Yeah (but, to be fair, he shares a pretty small portion of the blame for that). Regardless...He seems to be making some pretty respectable choices as he matures, and passing up big, easy paychecks to do stuff he feels good about. And I have a really hard time dinging him for that.

Did he immerse himself in wood?

2012-08-29 12:31:51 PM
You're walking in the woods.
There's no one around,
And your phone is dead.
Out of the corner of your eye you spot him,
Shia Labeouf.

He's following you
About 30 feet back.
He gets down on all fours and breaks into a sprint.
He's gaining on you.
Shia Labeouf.

You're looking for your car,
But you're all turned around.
He's almost upon you now
And you can see there's blood on his face!
My god, there's blood everywhere!

Running for your life
(From Shia Labeouf.)
He's brandishing a knife.
(It's Shia Labeouf.)
Lurking in the shadows
Hollywood superstar Shia Labeouf.
Living in the woods,
(Shia Labeouf.)
Killing for sport,
(Shia Labeouf.)
Eating all the bodies
Actual, cannibal Shia Labeouf.

Now it's dark and you seem to have lost him,
But you're hopelessly lost yourself.
Stranded with a murderer,
You creep silently through the underbrush.
Ah-Ha! In the distance,
A small cottage with a light on.
Hope!
You move stealthily toward it,
But your leg! AH! It's caught in a bear trap!

Gnawing of your leg,
(Quiet, quiet.)
Limping toward the cottage,
(Quiet, quiet.)
Now you're on the doorstep,
Sitting inside, Shia Labeouf.
Sharpening an ax,
(Shia Labeouf.)
But he doesn't hear you enter,
(Shia Labeouf.)
You're sneaking up behind him.
Strangling superstar Shia Labeouf.
Fighting for your life with Shia Labeouf,
Wrestling a knife from Shia Labeouf,
Stab it in his kidney.
Safe at last from Shia Labeouf.

You limp into the dark woods,
Blood oozing from your stump leg.
But you have won.
You have beaten Shia Labeouf.

Hey, I enjoyed the first Transformers movie, because of him. Not ashamed to admit it too...he was the only bright spot in the whole film, apart from Megan Fox's cleavage shots.

Anybody else notice the correlation between the increase in roles for Joseph Gordon Levitt and the decrease in roles for Shia LaBeouf? It seems like JGL is getting the roles that LaBeef used to get.

Dude seems like a nice enough guy and is genuinely trying, but he's just not a very good actor.

He must be really easy for directors to work with if he's still getting work, since I'm pretty sure my opinion isn't unique here.

2012-08-29 01:56:44 PM

MaxxLarge: Look, I give the kid credit. I really do.

I do as well, but it gets a bit annoying since he's been chirping a lot about how "selective" his new roles will be, how "serious" he's going to take his craft, and how "method and real" he's going to be while doing it.

After awhile, that's just noise. I've already given you a pat on the back for your new career outlook. It's now up to the viewing public to actually see you in your new roles, and determine from there.

Apart from him liking Shia LaBeouf's character, for me that was a perfect dissection of Crystal Skull.

/maybe not quite "perfect"
//I really could have done without him jacking it to Olsen Twin videos

FTFA - One thing he won't be doing will be revealing his genitals in Nymphomanica, with Von Trier using body doubles. It sounds about the only thing that we won't be seen of him over the next months.

He already showed off The Beef in the Sigur Ros video, so why not the movie?

My biggest fear is this. We all get laughs hating on him and it's a good time. Then I worry he's going to be like DiCaprio. He's making his "Titanic" style crap now, and in 10 to 15 years he's going to start busting out his Blood Diamonds and Inceptions and we're all going to have to eat our words and change our opinions.

This is all well and good until you try to watch one of his movies and have the impulse to ask the gentleman sitting next to you to skullfark your eyes out to take your mind off the pain.

But I used to hate Leonardo DiCaprio too, then he kind of went away for a bit around 2000-2002 and came back as an amazing actor. Could happen to Shia. In the mean time, I'm still going to mock LeBeef.

More or less what I was going to post.

I can't really imagine anyone doing a better job with the role, given the director and script.

I wish the kid well, and I'm hoping that new Lawless flick will be good.

If that were to happen, we wouldn't be eating our words. Our opinion of his early work will remain the same. We will just be impressed at the time when (or if) that does happen.

Just like how I don't recant my position of Jason Bateman's sitcom work in the 80s as being smug and unlikable now that he's emerged as a top comic talent today. I still think he sucked back then. He got better.

I was literally going to type this out myself. He could EASILY be the next DiCaprio or Depp. Last I heard he admitted not wanting to hang around hollywood long... which is probably the healthiest decision. But if he stays... and takes it seriously, and learns, and is picky and patient... I can see him being huge later on.

Could take a little while though.

FTFA:

The star also drank moonshine for his role in Lawless, of which the promotional trail is just about wrapping up...

What does the writer think moonshine is?

...and will be appearing in Lars Von Trier's film Nymphomaniac, which allegedly requires the actors to have actual sex (though this has since been denied).

Oh the horror.

Thus speaketh Shia The Beef -- "What I know of acting, Sean Penn actually strapped up to that (electric) chair in Dead Man Walking. These are the guys that I look up to."

Sean Penn's character died by lethal injection in Dead Man Walking, not by taking a ride on Old Sparky. Maybe Shia was on acid when he saw the film.

Is he hooked on drugs, yet? He should be, he can't act for shiat.

I know some of you think he's hot, but if Shia plops his fat ass down on your toilet, you better get the plunger ready. He BEEFS. He'll drop 5 or 6 forearm-sized logs in there with no flushes in between. Rumor has it that on the set of "Indy 5" he used to shiat in the shower and heel it down the drain to save time.
