MSNBC's Chris Matthews has doubled down on his charge that the GOP is dividing the United States "along racial lines."

um...that's actually a true statement. the GOP just got caught on the convention floor shouting down a Puerto Rican delagate by chanting 'USA USA USA' at her till she gave up.

the whole "gutting welfare thing," apart from being a complete farking lie, is designed as a racial dog whistle. the romney camp realizes that, despite republicans' best efforts, the economy isn't quite shiatty enough to sink obama, so they're going for a full-on race-baiting push for the white vote from here to november.

Jeez, you really are trying hard to stoop to their level and convince everyone of their badness by lying.

Chris just doesn't understand Anglo Saxon heritage. When they say things like "Welfare president" and "Food stamp president" and that Obama's ideas are "foreign" to real Americans they aren't trying to imply he's giving their hard earned money to "his people". When they complain that he's "taken the work out of welfare" they aren't implying that blacks are lazy moochers with their hands out.
It's really all very simple.

So, that didn't actually happen? When the P.R. speaker started with accented English and the crowd started chanting "USA USA" I was watching an alternate convention that wasn't the Republican one?

It was an argument between Ron Paul supporters and Romney supporters over seating delegates. If you actually watch the video you can hear some people chanting "seat them now" and others "USA USA USA"

Yes, they were rude to interrupt the speaker but not because they were shouting her down but because the Paulistas were duking it out with the RNC chairman at the same time.

There were chants of "seat them now" "point of order" and "Romney" before the woman spoke. Paulites were rebelling over the Maine delegation; Fonalledas started and the chants died off. Then "USA USA USA" without the Paulites' complaints. Not so sure the latter were Paulite/Romney supporters yelling at each other.

Maybe it was carry over from that fight. I attributed the BOOOs and whatnot to the Paulites and their fight to have their delegates seated.

It's nice that MSNBC apparently helped Matthews with his narrative by finding a way to hide every minority speaker at the RNC yesterday.

There's some small hope in me that Jon Stewart will do something with this as it would be hilarious but I highly doubt he'll touch it.

Agreed. I saw a clip of Matthews destroying Reince Priebus on Morning Joe the other day and the reaction from the other panelists was disturbing. I lost a lot of respect for Tom Brokaw (not that I had much to begin with), who was trying to appear neutral by not wanting Matthews to challenge Priebus's outright lies. Some of the other panelists were obviously upset with Matthews, too, for daring to call BS. I'm glad that there's at least one member of the media who isn't going to be a simple passive observer of the current Republican Party.

MSNBC's Chris Matthews has doubled down on his charge that the GOP is dividing the United States "along racial lines."

Not to say that one instance of stupidity is indicative of the GOP mindset, but when a convention attendee throws peanuts at a black CNN camerawoman and says "That's how we feed the animals", it makes you take a stroll down memory lane:

-Blah People: Rick Santorum
-Macaca: George Allen
-Get off food stamps: Gingrich to NAACP
-Hip-Hop Bar-B-Q Didn't Create Jobs: FoxNation
-Newt Gingrich's treatment of Juan Williams
-Herman Cain said that Democrats are keeping African Americans on a "plantation"
-Ron Paul: Dismantling Jim Crow was an evil violation of civil liberty
-Romney uses modified version of KKK slogan "Keep America American" (he dropped the n from the last word), referring to illegals
-Michelle Bachmann suggest the African-American family was stronger during slavery

Cokie's Law: It's out there now.

After the GOP has tried pushing "you didn't build that business", "Obama cut your Medicare benefits to favor blah people", "The GOP won't touch your Medicare benefits", and "Obama waived workfare to bribe blah people", among other blatant race-baiting and outright lies, I have zero sympathy for them in this matter. They can enjoy being on the receiving end of the media stenography machine they've helped foster for once. They can have fun trying to dispute a falsehood over... and over... and over... and over... ad nauseam. They want to dish it out, they'd better be ready to take it instead of sounding concerned.
