"Tonight, we're going to choose respect over love," he said, in stark contrast to Ann Romney's speech that immediately preceded his, which was focused on love.

Nice to see someone else caught that.

The modern GOP with their anti-education, anti-science, anti-gay, anti-women, anti-middle class agenda deserves neither respect nor love.

One thing Christie's mom apparently never taught him was that respect must be earned and so far the GOP haven't earned anything but well deserved scorn.

2012-08-29 08:01:17 AM
"Go fark yourself", Christie added.

2012-08-29 08:15:23 AM
He added, "I, however, have no respect for you. The only people I have respect for is businesses who donate to me. And I show how much I respect them by letting them treat you like absolute shiat, as you all deserve to be treated."

The crowd voiced joyous approval.

I wonder what it is that the GOP actually respects? it can't be Jesus, since they warp his teachings to serve their petty political agendas. it's not the Constitution, since they endorse torture, the war on drugs, TSA gate rape and all things authoritarian. it's not capitalism, since the GOP routinely caves to even the most horrific corporate abuses of power on an almost daily basis. it's not the middle class, since Republicans f*ck over everyone making less than $500k a year.

the only thing I can see the Republican party respecting is power. power for the sake of power. even money is merely a means to power for them. to a Republican, the point is power...money is just a means of keeping score and settling issues of rank and status. the goal is power and nothing else. morality, ethics, religion...all just means to an end.

It's a 'HAHA Christie is fat!' headline. The fail was inevitable.

Right. We should probably give them tax cuts, if only to ensure that they don't feel put upon.

I hope the 0.82% tax rate they will pay under the Romney/Ryan budget plan won't be too much of a burden for them.

No chance of that. It will be precisely 0.82% too much of a burden.

His wife must be buff. Think about how much fat she had to lift and hold to please him. If I was her I'd think about some kind of pulley system that allows both arms to be free.

Also, Chris Christie vs. Michael Moore. Who would win?

Christie. He flies around in helicopters, he can use gravity to crush Moore into a permanent addition to some pavement.

Jesus Christ: " 'Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.' This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: 'Love your neighbor as yourself.' "

Chris Christie: "Choose respect over love"

This is the modern "family values" conservative in a nutshell

A Fascinating speech considering this is a convention to celebrate the nomination of Mitt Romney, a candidate whose entire platform is "I'll tell you whatever you want to hear, just please, please, please vote for me."

2012-08-29 10:48:59 AM
RNC tuesday night speeches:

Kelly Ayotte - women (hey my husband built that even though it's technically a government job)
Rick Santorum - crazy people (HANDS!)
Ted Cruz - token hispanic (What you say? There's a segment of Cuban Americans that are often Republicans?)
Artur Davis - token black person/political traitor (welfare bad!)
Nikki Haley - indian people and women (unions bad!)
Ann Romney - women (I'm just like you! I have my maid scrub the dishes - JUST LIKE YOU! I wear $900 fish shirts - JUST LIKE YOU!)
Chris Christie - fat people (I'm just like you! Diabeetus! I just ate five donuts before this speech! Just like you!)

Message:

"Hey, you can totally forget about four years ago when the outgoing president left us with the largest debt and deficits in history, two wars with no end, a terrorist who had escaped justice for 7 years, failed education policies, horrible foreign relations, and the worst economy since the depression. We know about job creation! We know about busting and demonizing unions and reducing benefits to teachers while praising them! We know about starting slow plow companies with the help of government money while simultaneously stressing how awful government debt is! We are just like you, we have several women, sure mostly the spawn of Mitt Romney's children but still! We are black, latino, women. Hey we even snuck a couple of white people in there.

What has Barack Obama done since we took control of the Senate in early 2010 and Congress later that year through the power of the Kochtopus? Huh? What has he done? NOTHING! NOTHING! He's done nothing since we took all his power away! HAHAHAHHAAHA! HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!! HAHAHA!!! Sorry shiat this is on national TV isn't it..."

We're supposed to respect a guy who had no respect for himself?

2012-08-29 10:50:02 AM
The way I look at it, if you're trying to give an uplifting and motivating speech, yet have to actually TELL everybody to stand up, it's not all that uplifting or motivating.

Also, when they cut to Romney during the stand up moment I swear that the look on his face was "We are so farked". That or gas problems.

Now that I think about it I bet it was gas problems. I don't think he's self aware enough to realize he's farked, but I'd bet he is aware enough to know not to let a creeper out while standing next to Condi.

That's because he was setting himself up for 2016. He barely mentioned Romney. There's little doubt that he turned down a VP offer because he doesn't want to be sunk with a losing campaign.

2012-08-29 10:50:45 AM
So he's quoting gangster philosophy from A Bronx Tale.

Sonny gets shot in the head at the end, that's what his respect earned him.

His message is totally right. The policy his base has to address this is totally wrong. Obama will at some point have to lead the democrats to entitlement reform because that really is needed. So are huge cuts to military spending though, and tax increases, and reductions in benefits for people on medicare and probably SS.

When Republicans want to do things that people don't like, it's "choosing respect over love"

When Democrats want to do things that people don't like, it's "Shoving unwanted legislation down our throats against the WILL OF THE PEOPLE! The greatest affront to humanity of all time, and socialfacsim."

The bonus part is that the Republicans will do that in the middle of the night, by holding votes open long after they're supposed to expire, and by not notifying the Democrats that they're voting. The Democrats will debate legislation in the light of day for 18 months. And yet, in the end, it's somehow the Democrats that are "shoving legislation down our throats".

Obama and the Democrats have been open to entitlement reform for a while now. It was part of the "Grand Bargain" that Eric Cantor shot down during the debt ceiling debate.

Ezekiel 16:49-50
Behold, this was the guilt of your sister Sodom: she and her daughters had pride, excess of food, and prosperous ease, but did not aid the poor and needy. They were haughty and did an abomination before me. So I removed them, when I saw it.

Proverbs 23:20-21
Be not among drunkards or among gluttonous eaters of meat, for the drunkard and the glutton will come to poverty, and slumber will clothe them with rags.

Proverbs 25:16
If you have found honey, eat only enough for you, lest you have your fill of it and vomit it.

1 Corinthians 3:16-17
Do you not know that you are God's temple and that God's Spirit dwells in you? If anyone destroys God's temple, God will destroy him. For God's temple is holy, and you are that temple.

Psalm 78:18
They tested God in their heart by demanding the food they craved.

Deuteronomy 21:20
And they shall say to the elders of his city, 'This our son is stubborn and rebellious; he will not obey our voice; he is a glutton and a drunkard.'

Psalm 50:16-17
But to the wicked God says: "What right have you to recite my statutes or take my covenant on your lips? For you hate discipline, and you cast my words behind you.
