(Marketwatch)   Publicity from court case has, indeed, increased sales of Samsung phones. Unfortunately, we're talking about sales to a company that buys used phones from people who no longer want them   (marketwatch.com) divider line 15

Good. I wanted to get a cheap phone to upgrade for my kid.

So you are telling me that the sum total of this trial amounted to some sort of popularity contest? Wow.

Doesn't say what phones they were then buying. No evidence they sold their Droids to buy iPhones. Very likely they were quickly trading in to buy the latest Samsung before they were taken off the market and no longer available, since all the rumours have been that Apple will get many Samsung models banned in the US. That makes more sense.
If that's the case its a win for Samsung.

Or could it possibly be that the iPhone 5 is coming out soon, and that people are trading in to get a good price on their old phones before prices drop? Who knows? All I know is that I don't really give a flying fark which phone you use, Android, iOS and WP7 are all pretty damn good.

This.

You really can't go wrong with the big smart phones on the market. To me, anyone that argues any one platform is objectively "vastly" better than the other is looking for an excuse to argue over minor details.

Still wish my work-provided S3 had lock screen music controls
...and notify me when I have new emails if I lock the phone with the email app active
...and wrap text properly in the stock web browser.
...and didn't randomly go off-network even with full signal strength. Not even cycling airplane mode will get it back on.
...and have a stock keyboard with a first push comma. (thank goodness for TouchPal/swype)
...and have widgets that didn't suck ass.

What's a first push comma?

For all the other points my One X is great. I have the stock browser and Chrome, which you can set either as default. I prefer the stock one which has just been updated. The Tab button is now at the top, not bottom, of the screen. I've never left the mail app open to notice if it notifies you or not so I've just done that to test, and it does alert me.
I tried the S3 briefly and liked it, so it's interesting to hear some negative points.

My own term, I guess. Here's a screenshot of the stock keyboard:

You have to hold down period or go into the next keyboard screen to get a comma. That really sucks.

Oh, and the "send" buttons for emails and SMS messages are in different locations. That's just sloppy.

I see. That is a bit lame.

Here's the HTC keyboard.

There's lots of punctuation and symbols available with a long touch, though in email it does replace the comma with the @ symbol but only when the cursor is in the address box. As soon as you get to the message area it goes back to a comma.  The "12#" button goes to the numeric keypad since entering long numbers with the long push is a bit slow.

One of the many things I miss about my Desire HD - it had an awesome keyboard. Glad to see they still have the cursor keys in their ICS phones.

I loved the Desire. The only reason I changed was for the bigger screen, which is fantastic, and it was a free upgrade. And on Google now you can use the whole screen and write with your finger which it converts into text. Much easier if you are walking for example and using the keyboard might be hard. I assume that is a Google thing rather than a phone specific thing.
I did miss the physical Menu button on the Desire, but I got over it.

One thing I hate about the One X, and wished was the same as the Desire. The Calendar. When you click on a day it opens up a long screen of hours, starting at midnight for that day and has a line for each hour. So any event after midday you can't see until you scroll down to it! FFS HTC fix that! It's a bloody pain in the ass! The Desire had the option to swap between different day views, but not the One X.

I have no problem using the keyboard on my Nexus.

Absolutely. I think this is also the explanation for a blip in purchases of new Samsung phones that I saw reported the day after the verdict. It forced the hand of folks who hadn't gotten around to getting one but are now paranoid that they'll go away.
