Listen up, Farkers, I warned you all about sin nombre virus last week. It was in the thread about the brain-eating amoeba. The week before that, it was about Cryptococcal meningitis, just before the thread about the young woman blinded by it.

Be nice, or I won't tell you about next week's scary-as-shiat disease

That don't spread hantavirus, or really any disease of note as far as I know

As far as roughing it, fark that, stay in a hotel in Oakhurst if you want to be cheap or stay in the Ahwahnee if you want something 4-star that's also a national landmark and an architectural treat

When this began to become more prevelant in the Four Corners region about 20 years ago, old timer Navajo medicine men tried to tell the CDC and UNM people what was going on. They told them it happens in wet years when the Piñon Pines bear lots of nuts, and the deer mouse population explodes. They knew as early as 100 years ago 9and probably well before that) to burn clothing and blankets that had been soiled by mice.

Though the Sin Nombre virus was only identified in 1994, its deadly effects are not news to the Navaho [sp]. Navaho [sp] legend has it that if deer mice enter the hogan and infest clothing or bedding, those items must be burned or the young adults of the hogan will die.

If you are going to hang around liberal sluts like national forests, don't be surprised when you catch something. A good conservative forest allows itself to be clear cut, leaving no habitat behind for animals that carry disease.

//clear cut. giggity.

When was the last time you heard someone catching a deadly virus from a hotel where a hooker wasn't involved?

THIS. And while TFA implies that it is called Sin Nombre because it is so new, it is actually called that because the Native American tribes in the Four Corners area couldn't agree on a name, so the CDC went with Sin Nombre.

The seasonal rangers at Shenandoah used to live in small camper trailers at one of the campgrounds in North District...until they discovered that the mice that infested the trailers were carrying Hanta. The NPS burned the trailers to the ground and made arrangements for apartments in Front Royal and Luray.

This more often occurs on Angel Island near San Francisco, which has an out-of-control deer mouse population because they decided putting coyotes there to control the deer would be too cruel.
