At the very end a hand that looks like Freddie's (complete with glove and blades) comes up through the ground and snatches it. Can't remember the name of the movie.

So it's been used before.

Would love to know what his original plans were for Evil Dead 4...

The original ending to the movie was Ash getting stuck in the future where civilization has ended.

Apparently the imbeciles at 'Award Pictures' got sued previously for trying to make a sequel to Big Trouble in Little China.

I had a friend who was studying film at Michigan State, and about four or five years ago Bruce Campbell was going to be there to screen My Name is Bruce for the first (or one of the very first) times. She got me in. It was a pretty cool experience, even if the film was pretty meh.

Tom Sullivan was there too in the audience (he was the guy who made the Book of the Dead for the Evil Dead) and he's always an interesting guy to talk to if you ever run into him at a horror movie convention (he loves talking to the fans and screening old stuff they used to do).

By far though, the best part was watching Bruce Campbell getting increasingly frustrated with asinine fan questions during the Q&A. Stuff like, "who would win in a fight". Have to say though, Campbell was pretty good sport even though you could see he does get irritated by quite a number of his fans. I did get to ask the man personally about this story an ex told me:

Apparently, when they were kids, my ex's dad was brought by his mother over to the Campbell residence to fight Bruce's older brother. He confirmed it happened. He said it was one of the weirdest, most animalistic things he'd ever seen a parent do.

I heard he wrote about it in his book, but I never read it so I can't confirm if it's in there. I hope it is though, because I can't do it justice and I'm relying on my memory here. So I'll just try to re-tell it the way I was told by my ex and then Bruce Campbell.

So, according to my ex, her dad and Bruce Campbell grew up next door to each other. They never really got along. Just dumb kid stuff growing up in the 60's, y'know? No one really remembers how it happened, but her dad went over to Bruce Campbell's house to fight him because of something really childish and stupid.

Now, I thought that was kind of a cute story, and she told me a number of weird things about her family and I wasn't sure how much of them were true. They were certainly plausible, because she was a rich girl from a rich and connected family in Michigan (lol, rich and well connected in Michigan still cracks me up). I mean, she told me that her family was friends with Michael Moore and that her dad was at the Machus Red Fox the night that Jimmy Hoffa disappeared.

(and just to add weirdness to the whole two-degrees-of-separation that is the Metro Detroit area, she was friends with my favorite local-never-went-anywhere band there)

Anyway, I digress.

I was always curious about the story, but never enough to really look into it. It's just a funny anecdote. But then there I was, with a chance to talk to Bruce Campbell one-on-one, and I thought, what the hell, I'll ask him about it.

Turned out, it had happened, but he corrected me on a few details. The first being they weren't next-door neighbors, but they lived catty-corner; so close enough. And it wasn't him he went to fight, but Bruce's older brother. In addition, the mother brought her son over to fight Bruce Campbell's older brother.

Over some dumb argument, if I recall.

He didn't seem to remember what the ordeal was about either. But hey, if it involves kids, it really couldn't have been that serious, right? But, it was the whole thing of the mother bringing her son over to fight some other kid in his backyard that was so bizarre about it. Nothing came of it, it was stopped by the responsible Campbells before some insane parent-supported child fist-fight could break out, but Bruce Campbell told me that scene was one of the strangest things he'd ever seen a parent do.

He said that mother's attitude was one of the most animalistic things he'd seen in a friggin' suburb.

But hey, y'know, that's Metro Detroiters for you. It's a pretty weird place full of weird people sometimes. I really wish I could recall the story better.

Or had told it with all kinds of Ash one-liners said by a little kid Bruce Campbell.

I met Bruce. I have his autograph on my Bubba Ho-Tep ticket. He was sitting directly in front of me at the premier, during the Toronto Film Festival. Would have got my pic taken with him but didn't have a camera with me (and no cell phone back then).

Renaissance Pictures sued Awards Pictures in May, claiming Awards Pictures' in-production film Evil Dead 4: Consequences conflicted with Renaissance's own plans to create a sequel.

Nope. That scene is in Jason Goes To Hell and Freddy's glove hand comes up and snatches Jason's hockey mask There is a scene though when someone finds and looks at the Necronomicon and the Kandarian Dagger.

Although Wes Craven and Sam had many back and forths between their flicks. In Evil Dead 1 there is ripped Hills Have Eyes poster then in the first Nightmare on Elm Street Nancy and Greg are watching Evil Dead on the TV. In Evil Dead 2 when Ash goes in the cellar you can see Freddy's glove hanging on the wall.

I've seen it a few times, including the first two Toronto runs with the original cast. It definitely wasn't a failure. Every show sold out well in advance.

Somewhat off-topic, but this is a great Sam Raimi film that I recently re-watched:

Met Bruce a couple times now. Guy is a class act all the way. As far as Raimi goes, he's all about keeping track of rights after he & Tapert lost the Xena franchise. I think they must have had a crappy lawyer in the beginning stages of nailing down rights. They fought from 2001 to 2007 to get the rights back from MCA, Universal & Action Pack. In the end no one ended up with all the rights, each with part, so Xena as a Franchise is dead. Sad really. I would have loved to seen the Warrior Princess on the big screen.

He wrote back and asked for my phone number, and then called to say "Hello" because I was from Michigan and indicated I'd been a fan since I first saw Evil Dead screened in a local theater. He was very nice and gracious. 'Thanked me for my support, and wished me luck on my various careers in media and entertainment.

This was the early 90s, if I recall. After that, his popularity blew up on the Internet and I was proud to say I talked him because he called me just to be cool.

So in my opinion, Bruce Campbell is a class act. A good guy. The kind of fellow you invite around for tea.

He played Brisco County Jr in a DEADLANDS LARP at Gencon a few years ago.

The man is a GOD, and one of my biggest regrets is that I didn't recognize him when he came to
my office a few years ago until he was far enough down the street that I couldn't run after him to
shake his hand without looking like a creepy retard.
