The subby on the original story for this tagged it "Satire" this morning. Yay for us, Fark. We are smart. S-M-R-T.

Well yeah, eventually.

But only after tardbots like myself read the original satire tag free headline and rushed to the article for the money shot takeaway quote and then proceeded to make an ass of themselves.

/Shoulda read Ms Mape's first writing thingy ITT in which the satirical aspect was pointed out.
//Fark you. Fark filter. Can't pwn me twice! :>p

Oh really? I only saw it after it had the "satire" tag. I didn't know it was originally posted under something else.

Haha, well, we're not the only ones who fell for it though. I'm not sure if a breastmilk cure is really THAT much more outlandish than magical rape-repelling uteruses, so who can blame us?

Wait... so this isn't true? But it's on the internet!

Makes more sense than the "Pray the gay away" or "Let's hug it out" therapies, certainly.

Think Subby was seriously taken in as well but Ms Mapes was on the case from the get-go.

Got to get up pretty early in the morning to fool that gal.

/In my defense it was ridiculously early when I made that error and my caffeine levels were marginal at best.

I prefer the 'hug it out' therapies.

When the world can no longer tell the difference between actual conservative "thinking" and satire of conservative "thinking" it is not the world's fault.

Breast milk is pretty tasty, even if it doesn't cure your gay.

If this were reported on ABC or CNN, you might have a point. Suze Orman and a few bloggers is not 'the world'.

It's confusing with all these non-The Onion satire news sites springing up, and Poe's Law + Akin.

/In related news, I kinda miss GaryPDX

THIS. But it needs to be said, if you don't identify with the pants-on-head retarded party, don't act like you're pants-on-head retarded. You'll give trolls wiiings.

This just in, republicans have gotten so absurd that their actual statements are less believable than satire.

2012-08-28 02:58:52 PM
even knowing that it was satire, i still believe that Akins said that verbatim.

Googled Suze Orman......care even less now.

His original real comment was no more outlandish than the fake one.

The "lesbians can be cured by drinking something else" crack is what tipped me off.

But yeah, this is no more outlandish than the crap he actually said. Imagine how mad he is now. "Now they're blaming me for stupid things I DIDN'T EVEN SAY!!!11"

Me too. I figured that even if the obvious allusion didn't leap to mind immediately, at minimum, someone would say "but at that age, wouldn't the health and hormone benefits be the same to both genders? Why would breast milk be beneficial ONLY to sons in some way? This must be lies."

I guess most people left after the OMG OUTRAGE bit, though, which I'm sure was the intended effect and why it was buried in a half-nod at the very end like that. 10/10 to whoever the author was.

Good work, satire site that doesn't get credit.

Suze Orman then tweeted the article to her 1.3 million followers with the caption "PLAIN STUPID" (she deleted the tweet so we can't link, sorry).

So what's the controversy? She figured out she was stupid and let everyone know...

Still applies, though. People who are living parodies of themselves have only themselves to blame.

Poe's Law is getting the ultimate workout this year.

2012-08-28 03:28:33 PM
I'm tired of people claiming Poe's Law for their own gullibility.

"How was I supposed to know he wasn't a Nigerian Prince? It seemed so authentic!"

The story may be untrue, but Todd Akin is still plain stupid.

The real truth was hidden right under your nose. Breast milk won't do an adult much good, but recent studies show that injesting semen can be beneficial for women. Maybe it's good for men too. If nothing else, I'm pretty sure a number of unnamed political and Hollywood celebrities maintain a steady diet of fresh-squeezed cockjuice as aversion therapy. You know, "a dick a day keeps the gay away"?

/say, that's a catchy little slogan! I hope LMFAO hasn't turned it into a song chorus yet, I bet I could make a few bucks off T-shirts
//anyone know John Travolta and Marcus Bachmann's shirt sizes?

I would find it of dubious comfort to tell myself that it is because Akin is such a douchebag that I was not able to identify TFA as satire.

TFA=the original 'breastmilk' story, not the TFA for this thread.
