Although it rarely happens, once every blue moon I get the odd girl come up to me at a party or some get-together and whisper to me that she wished she had my willpower to be anorexic and that they totally support my choice.

I find it shocking because A) I'm not anorexic (although I am underweight) B) they're completely ok with thinking I'm deliberately starving myself for approval and C) the look of disgust or anger on their face when I tell them that I'm not anorexic or bulemic and that they might want to consider seeking professional assistance if they think they might have an eating disorder.

Out of morbid curiosity I've visited a few of these sites myself...and yes, many of those women seriously need to seek the advice of mental health professionals.

JohnAnnArbor: WhippingBoy: For the flip side (but with the same levels of derp), check out a "Fat Acceptance" website sometime.

I guess a few colleges have even set up programs for this. Any health studies that are negative about obesity are called "sizist" or whatever.

Yeah... it boggles the mind.

They usually start with the plausible assertion that being morbidly obese does not necessarily mean you're unhealthy in all cases (much like *some* people can smoke 3 packs a day and die at 99), and then the derp begins:
- Some morbidly obese people are healthy; I'm morbidly obese; therefore I'm healthy (the word "some" is conveniently ignored)
- If I'm craving 2 boxes of donuts, it's just my body telling me what I need (intuitive eating), and therefore I should eat the two boxes of donuts
- Everybody has a genetically set weight; If I continue to gain weight, it's just that my body hasn't reached it's appropriate level yet (because natural selection/evolution obviously favours creatures who are to fat to walk without assistance [and, ergo, are too fat to escape from predators]
- Diets don't work (which is true--as soon as you go off a diet and back to the 8000 calories a day, you tend to gain back the weight!). Very little mention is made regarding lifestyle changes, however
- A cherry-picked, misinterpreted study done in 1975 on prisoners who were fed a starvation diet, etc. is inconclusive scientific proof that it's impossible to lose weight
- The sizest society we live in needs to accomodate fat people (wider airline seats at the same prices, gurneys to life people onto hospital beds, etc.)
- "Fat Studies" is a credible academic pursuit and not at all driven by people who have been marginalized all their lives who are seeking to fill their pathetic existence with some kind of meaning

... it goes on...

I'd just grab a burger and eat it infront of them. Any resistance or look of disgust should turn into a confused look over your chevy chase and go like "What?".

Your average gay male fashion designer finds the above image as attractive than the female body.

GnuUzir: No, but it will help prevent scarring, the scabs thing that is...

an imunologist told me that I should always pick my scabs, and that it will help promote healing. This headline confused me.

What, like a BBW site?

Kinda... but with 100% more self-delusion.

My wife just for her own amusement a while back, researched these pro anorexia and bulimia websites and forums. My God. Those people are sick.

She mostly gathered (in a totally unscientific conclusion) that Western Society was the main catalyst behind these girls obsessions. Yes, they have underlying issues like trauma, depression, psychosis, history of abuse both sexual and physical, etc. But a lot of these girls compared themselves to the airbrushed and Photoshoped models in fashion magazines.

The crazy thing is that these girls knew that the models did not look that perfect in real life, they knew of all they heavy editing to the photos, but they wanted to attain this impossible look. Sad. Just sad.

Can turning off CNN prevent large head sized grooves in your desk or palm prints on your face?
