I love it when position players are called on to pitch. It's weirdly exciting, in an "I can't bear to watch" kind of way.

Particularly when they're busting out the knucklecurve (guessing from the grip)

Every time I've seen this, which has been about a half dozen over the years, they seem to do well for that one inning they pitch. Everybody tries to bomb the 70mph fastball and end up with towering flyballs to the infield. At least that's been what I've seen

I figure it's because the hitters have never hit off them before, so they're all "wut?" so they just swing wildly at stuff for the heck of it.

I think they draw their starting line-up from a hat these days.

When you look at the pitch-FX for them, there is often so little speed and spin that all the pitches are classified as knuckle balls.

Ya ya ya, a position player pitched big deal, been there done that. When is the next time Brett Jackson is going to actually hit the ball instead of strike out?

Didn't the Brewers make the cubs use a position player to pitch about 6 years ago?

FTA:
The Cubs' highlight, besides Mather? Rookie Brett Jackson's third homer in four days.

Had the game recording, but flipped it on at the top of the ninth. Craziness. And of course the first out of the game was Cody Ransom. There is no one in the entire Brewers minor league system worthy of coming up for the rest of the season to be a utility infielder? Seriously?

Don't you mean Vitters? 3 k's last night before I turned off the game after Braun's monster blast.
