He's a below average starter but he's an above average backup. He won't win you any games but he won't lose many either. Bills did OK here.

2012-08-27 03:29:34 PM
It's an upgrade at backup QB from Vince Young.

2012-08-27 03:47:59 PM
Has Vince Young really fallen this far? A team actually surrenders a draft pick for a middling QB because they are that insecure about him as a backup...that's bad.

I just read that Young was released today. Giving up a 7th possibly a 6th pick for Jackson may not be a bad deal.

The Bills upgraded at backup with this move. Now, if they could only get rid of Pigpen.

2012-08-27 06:14:49 PM
Young looked horrible out there. No way Jackson could look worse

2012-08-27 06:25:20 PM
I'll always feel bad for Jackson because he was poised to have a breakout year in Minnesota right before Favre came in at the last minute. He's never really recovered since then. Can't argue with the Vikes move as they went far that season, but never know if TJ wouldn't have turned it around that year with AP at running back.

2012-08-27 06:32:44 PM
As a Seahawks fan, the writing was on the wall as soon as they drafted Wilson. I'm expecting that they got a 6th rounder, but heard they were pushing for a 5th.

Especially now with Wilson being named the starter, there was no way the team was going to carry $10.5 million on the bench at QB. They like Portis as the #3 behind Wilson at #1 and Flynn at #1a, and he comes a hell of a lot cheaper than $4 million.

Exactly. He had an ok year last year statistically playing with a torn peck muscle.

He just doesn't react fast enough to be a NFL starter.

Vince Young's career has been such a disappointment that I thought he was a Heisman Trophy winner. Seriously. I had to go look that up.

/He lost to Reggie Bush

Or, more likely, poised to have another disappointing year.

stappawho: He just doesn't react fast enough to be a NFL starter.

He has a lot of physical gifts, and I just don't mean "mobile QB". He actually has a really strong arm, probably one of the stronger ones in the league.
But he's always gotten rattled too easily; mid-range and long-range accuracy is middling at best; yards per reception low from checking down to TE or back too quickly; throws too many INTs for the yards and TDs you get out of him.

That said, better than Vince Young.

Good to see Russell Wilson doing so well so soon, although the regular season hasn't started yet, I guess technically he hasn't done shiat.
Watched him at WI, thought he was pretty good, but really didn't expect him to be starting NFL games, and certainly not this early in his career.

2012-08-27 06:52:56 PM
Biggest problem with Jackson was that he was at his worst on 3rd down, when it mattered the most.

Somehow I know Young will end up with the Raiders, at least temporarily.

What a giant disappointment that Rose Bowl turned out to be. Greatest game my ass.

So Vince Young is on the market? Dammit.. gonna be that much harder for Jake Delhomme to find a job now.

2012-08-27 07:26:02 PM
I gained a lot of respect for the guy in his year as a Seahawk. He put up bad-but-not-embarrassing numbers, while hurt and with a shaky line and receiving corps, and had the respect of the locker room. He's a guy with NFL experience and good character. A lot of teams would love to have that for their backup QB. For a late-round pick, that's a nice pickup for Buffalo. A good backup QB is someone who, if the starter goes down for 4 weeks, can steer you to a 2-2 record if you have a good enough defense. Jackson is that guy. And it's pretty clear by now that Vince Young is finished in the NFL.

just days ago, the hot rumor was that Mr. Badass QB Developer Ken Whisenhunt was considering a trade for T-Jack or Colt McCoy.

can't help but ownder if VY's name is being kicked around Cards HQ.

no one knows. just today Whiz began a press conference with, "i know you're all expecting to me to name a starter, but that isn't going to happen". they played the clip on the radio earlier.

all that is known is the #3 kid, Lindley, will start. I think he was a 3rd round draft pick out of San Diego I believe. I haven't really been following him so much, although there were some intriguing reports from camp but before any of the games.

It just annoys me that we are already discussing the 2013 draft. and in a complete surprise, the hot topic is 'do we take a QB #1 or wait until the second round? or, what free agents will be avaialable?" Because Mr. Genius QB Developer Ken Whiz AGAIN can't find the right QB.

I know, Cards fans, I know: "b-b-b-b-b-b-b-b-b-but Get off whiz! he took us to a Super Bowl! Coach for life!" fark that. The NFC West is only getting better (aside from Seattle, no offense, Jet City) and yet we are still status quo since Kurt left. Ridiculous. I posted those artilcels from 2007 or whatever when Whiz was hired. Nationally and locally, the consensus was he got the job based largely upon his "development" or Ben Roethlisberger.

well dammit, where are we now? Looking at FAs and draft picks.

I mean, he will start the final preseason game.

part of me hopes he goes nuts (by preseason standards), with something like 13/16, 210, 3TDs just so that by default, he gets named the starter.

10 mil guaranteed, and presumably it will be closer to the lower end if he's not starting. Roughly $3.3m/year for a backup isn't all that exorbitant.

The NFC West likes to take other teams' backups, pay them well, and then bench them. Wilson may be better than Scam bradford, Kolb/Skelton, & Smith, though.

Rick Meier was traded for the 3rd overall pick of that draft, aka Walter Jones. A conditional 7th to 6th round pick is no where near as epic a fleecing.

None taken. But don't be surprised if the Hawks sneak a 9-7 or 10-6 in this year. Upgrades to the O and D line, a bunch of young and fast guys on both sides of the ball, and an upgrade at QB regardless of which one of them plays, neither one willbe as awful as T-Pick or Clipboard Charlie.

Can't expect the rest of the country to care about us now that we cut TO. At least not til mid-season and its "are the Seahawks for real?" followed inevitably with "no, they aren.t."

There's only so much time on Sportcenter, and between New York, New York, New England and Pittsburgh, plus Andrew Luck, plus the Dallas Cowboys, plus mayyybe something about Green Bay now and then.. Are the Bears falling apart will rate a story or two... there's just no way you can ever talk about the rest of the league.

...McCoy is still better than Tavaris Jackson (otherwise the Packers wouldn't be interested). Hell, he's probably better than Kolb, at this point.

/Of course, once the Browns trade him away, Weeden will get injured and we'll be stuck with Seneca farking Wallace for the season.

Have a heart, that weaselly little fark is a Jets fan. Have you seen the Jets this preseason? I have 2x (seen about 2/3rds of the preseason games). I don't know if he's suffered enough yet, but by December I don't think that will be in doubt.

no thanks... The last thing the CFL needs is an inaccurate QB who gets confused. Hell we have more players on the field, with less time between plays and fewer downs. Not a recipe for success...

I figured he'd break his neck again and be out by October and the story would be Caleb Hanie for the rest of the year. JOKE. Just like last year's playoffs.

Um, there's no question the Seahawks will finish ahead of the Cardinals. The Seahawks' loss to the Cardinals in Week 17 last year (when a win didn't mean sh*t) really just earned them two extra draft picks.

i know he says he is a jets fan, but listen to the show for 30 minutes and count how many times he references chicago. dodgers / sox trae? HOW DOES IT AFFECT THE CHI SOX?? hocket strike? WHAT DOES IT MEAN FOR THE BLACKHAWKS!? etc. he cannot stop talking about chicago, be it hoops ("i covered jordan") or even ND or especially Northwestern footbal (that is, ever one year in 10 when they have a good season).

and no, haven't seen the jets. i've only watched one game so far, the Cards/Titans game. which was awful.

i'll probably watch the Cards/Donks I thynk Thursday. Just to see Peyton in Donko colors.

his last time here was soemthing like 2009, poss 2010. early, like Week 4 or some shiat. i used to bet back then and i think we were coming off the super bowl season and were favored by like, 4 points. lost a chunk of change as i forget the socre, but i recll it being one of those frustrating Cards games where the game is virtually over in the 3rd quarter.

Maybe we'll laugh about this in December but if I had to pick today I'd put my money on the Hawks winning at least 10 and as many as 12 games this year. Other than Pats/Packers/Lions on the road and SF on the road I like their chances in every game. Maybe the Bears. But it's not too hard to find 10 wins on that schedule.

The only thing I don't like about picking number of wins is the schedule - it's not easy. But I'll go with "win the division" because, well, the rest of the division has to play most of those teams, too.

Yeah, we don't know who's good yet. We think we do but we are wrong often enough that we should know better. I look at the steeler schedule and can't see more then ten wins and maybe a .500 season. With the current state of the o-line and rb's rberger is gonna get raped 'cause they're gonna have to pass every play. I was all optimistic when we drafted a tackle in the first round. Oh well. I'll still watch but I'm preparing for a long year. It'll be fun to watch all the new qb's in the league even if my team misses the playoffs. On ething is certain - I am waaaaaay ready for some football.
