They were brown muslims, right?

No?

Move along, citizen, nothing terroristic to see here.

The scariest thing about this story is that they were able to get as far as they did without the government picking up on their activities.

Prosecutors said the group called itself F.E.A.R., short for Forever Enduring Always Ready.

Wow, that's a really cool acronym. It spells fear, do you get it? Fear. Wow, really cool.

Ultimately, prosecutors said, the militia's goal was to overthrow the government and assassinate the president.

idiots. you want to topple the government, don't go after the President....go after wall street. raid Goldman-Sachs and a few other banks, scoop up the data and release it to the world. THAT would end governments, destroy careers and obliterate entire political parties. shooting people? please. that's not going to do much more than get your thrown in prison. releasing information? THAT will get you hunted down by entire spy organizations and murdered by shadowy assassins right out of a james bond movie.

For farks sake

You farkers .... fark

I really cant put into words how I feel.

I dont like Obama. I really dont like him one bit. But assassinating a President basically tells the American people that their opinion does not matter. The American people elected President Obama. The reasons for this are inconsequential. He was elected. To plot to kill the President is highly unfair to the American people who put him there. You are selfish farks who should get the needle for your crimes.

And to abuse the public trust by using your positions as soldiers....fark you farkheads

I am too farking angry. I gotta have a smoke

Okay, so you take over a military base, plausible......temporarily, you don't have enough men to hold it when everyone get's geared up near by. Then what are you going to do? Die, that's what, and not a thing will be accomplished and you will be discredited for any view you have. Idiots, put people's lives at risk for nothing.

Too bad we're not in an officially declared war or they could have been charged with treason.

FTA: Pauley said Aguigui funded the militia using $500,000 in insurance and benefit payments from the death of his pregnant wife a year ago. Aguigui was not charged in his wife's death, but Pauley told the judge her death was "highly suspicious."

However, if found guilty of murdering an innocent couple along with the other heinous crimes, I'm cool if they just get the death penalty.

Correction to the article: "semiautomatic assault rifles" are not a thing. By definition, if it's an assault rifle, it must be capable of fully automatic fire. What they're referring to is a semiautomatic rifle that looks like an assault rifle, but isn't.

Also, it sounds like this is not terrorism but rather a (foolhardy) attempt at civil war. From the article, which was thin on their plans, it sounded like their targets were military targets, not civilian. This would be more like the USS Cole attack or the Ft. Hood shootings (both of which were acts of war) and not, say the World Trade Center attack (terrorism).

"Treason against the United States, shall consist only in levying War against them, or in adhering to their Enemies, giving them Aid and Comfort. No Person shall be convicted of Treason unless on the Testimony of two Witnesses to the same overt Act, or on Confession in open Court. The Congress shall have Power to declare the Punishment of Treason, but no Attainder of Treason shall work Corruption of Blood, or Forfeiture except during the Life of the Person attainted." US Constitution, Article III, Section 3.

I'd argue that this is exactly treason in that they are "levying war against [the United States]"

priapic_abandon: This is treason, if they are found guilty. During wartime, which we are in, they should get this:

Which was are we in, exactly? The US hasn't had a declared war since 1947, and SCOTUS has interpreted the wartime powers laws accordingly. If you want to use wartime laws, you need to formally declare a war.

I thought they couldn't under the US Constitution but I'm not sure after reading Article III, Section 3 (see link below). Treason was heavily used by England for any dissent against the King. The Founding Fathers made it difficult to so freely use the charge.

Treason against the United States, shall consist only in levying War against them, or in adhering to their Enemies, giving them Aid and Comfort. No Person shall be convicted of Treason unless on the Testimony of two Witnesses to the same overt Act, or on Confession in open Court. I was one of those. After looking at the 70s radicals (Weather Underground, Black Liberation Army, May 19th, etc.), it was logical to assume that further violent radicals would come from the left.

I was wrong.
