NBC doesn't pretend to be "fair and balanced." That's why people don't give a shiat about the bias. BECAUSE THEY DON'T PRETEND TO HAVE ZERO BIAS.

I would say MSNBC and CNN are the only fair and balanced news sources. Faux News is just the GOP mouth-piece

The My Little Pony Killer: NBC doesn't pretend to be "fair and balanced." That's why people don't give a shiat about the bias. BECAUSE THEY DON'T PRETEND TO HAVE ZERO BIAS.

I will say this... they are more fair and balanced than Fox News. By a billion miles. Fox News I don't even classify as a credible news outlet, but more of a propeganda machine of the Republicans

"I think we're the counterweight... I think that they have a liberal agenda and I think we tell the other side of the story."

The other side of the story. Fairness and balance would seem to imply telling all sides of a story, not merely one side.

CNN is only balanced because they're like the TMZ of news.

Anyone see Chris Matthews and Reince Priebus get into a testy exchange about birtherism and welfare in the campaign this morning...?

Nina_Hartley's_Ass: "I think we're the counterweight... I think that they have a liberal agenda and I think we tell the other side of the story."

They first had to establish the comparison of Fox News and MSNBC before they could declare themselves the truly unbiased source. Otherwise nobody would believe it.

2012-08-27 12:38:28 PM
ABC, NBC, CBS, and CNN may be biased - if you consider not sucking republican cock to be biased against republicans.
But Fox is the only one that has gone to court and made an an argument in front of a judge that it knowing something is a lie is no reason not to have their anchors state it on air as fact.

2012-08-27 12:40:24 PM
So, wait: MSNBC is treating the Republican National Convention as an opinion forum, and are having their opinion personalities cover it? And Fox News is running it as straight, unbiased news coverage?

Something tells me that is MSNBC runs their DNC coverage as straight news, News Corps various outlets would have collective heart attacks.

DeltaPunch: Anyone see Chris Matthews and Reince Priebus get into a testy exchange about birtherism and welfare in the campaign this morning...?

Yes, and as righteous as I think Matthews was trying to be, he's kind of a dick, Priebus barely took the bait, and both sides are going to watch this and think their team got the better of the exchange. Although Matthews is not really on the Democratic team. Think of him as the liberal version of Pat Buchanan.

"People like to compare MSNBC to Fox. They do it from the left, and we do it from the right, the critics say. That's nonsense. Just look at the convention coverage. We have a firewall between news and opinion"

Left? In U.S. politics?

The whole premise falls apart right here.

Wow. That was amazing! Priebus tried to tell Matthews that the stimulus and healthcare was "European" and Matthews straight-up called him out on it. And he got applause!

Ask yourself how Rachel Maddow would have gone about it. Or even Al Sharpton. Matthews has a very brusque style and that rubs a lot of people the wrong way.

Yeah. I really can't take a whole lot of Matthews. Don't get me wrong, though. He's a pretty sharp guy, and his arguments are usually pretty well thought out. But, as a host, he's embarrassing. I almost feel sorry for him. There' is some part of his brain that tells him that he needs to dominate every conversation, and it's a complete waste of time watching his show.

Yeah, I wish he wasn't so brusque, but at the same time it seems like nobody stops Republicans and straight up asks them about the birther stuff, the "foreign" and un-American comments, etc. They DON'T want to talk about it because it's a huge dogwhistle issue. Take Priebus, for example.... with all this undeniable crap about accusing our president of being "foreign", what does he say? "Well every time *I* go on TV I insist that he's born in the US, so it's not an issue." Like that makes it suddenly go away, and magically everyone in the party is innocent of making all those vile accusations.

exactly. you cannot be balanced and be a "counterweight" to a perceived leftward bias. it is impossible. which is why fox news' slogan is such utter bullshiat.

A "total" misogynist?

Like I said, I don't watch his show, so I don't know if he is or not. But, on the few occasions I've seen it and he's had a woman on, he's always seemed as respectful toward them as he is toward his male guests.

Are you sure you're not confusing "laughing at Bachmann for saying crazy shiat" with misogyny?

Very informative and insightful. If you are looking for partisan talking points, flip on Fox News. If you're looking for informed news presented in an un-biased, un-political manner, flip on MSNBC or CNN

Or if available in your area, NPR

FTFA: THR: He's been raising money for Obama's re-election. You share his love for the president?

SO MUCH THIS.

btw - good for matthews on calling them on their foreign "the other" bullshiat. i loved how the other anchors suddenly got very nervous about it, too. and priebus pulled the classic schoolboy "ooh, good for you! you won!" non-denial of his bullshiat.

Ah yes, the conservative definition of "liberal bias." "Hey, this story doesn't explicitly promote a candidate or Republican idea! LIBERAL!!!!" It's impossible for them to read or see a traditional news story with just facts without wondering why their opinion wasn't validated. "That's odd, I just watched Nightly News with Brian Williams, and Ronald Reagan wasn't honored once! That's liberal media for ya!"

Lockup and Caught on Camera are just weekend filler. msnbc covers "breaking news" like mass shootings and hurricanes but otherwise it's wall-to-wall politics with news updates. Scarborough is a Republican but the rest of the hosts are left or at least left-leaning. Plenty of guests and regular contributors from the GOP and the right and some tea party guys, too.
