Is there anyone in ML baseball playing right now of whom you would believe any story you heard about him? (Difficulty: not a PED story)
Dock Ellis? Bill Lee? There isn't even a David Wells anymore.

Nyjer Morgan.

Obviously no where near as good as Ellis or Bill Lee, but I would not be surprised to read a story tomorrow about him beating up a bus (the bus itself I mean), or repeating his kite flying escapades.

He is genuinely crazy.

I suppose throwing your glove on the ground rather than making a play on a ball you booted is pleasing the fanbase (in that it gives the fans the entertainment of booing).

That Ogando (sp) fellow in Texas. Dude was mixed up in human trafficking and somehow managed to still get a green card.

My favorite Dock Ellis story: early in the 1977 Yankee season. Billy was fighting with George, Reggie was pissing everybody off, Thurman hated Reggie, the pitching, especially Dock, was horrible, the team was losing. George kept threatening to fly in and scold the team if the losing kept up, which prompted Dock to say to the beat reporters "the more we lose losing the more George will keep flying in. The more he flies in the better the chances of him being in a plane crash."
Two weeks later Dock was shipped off to Oakland for Mike Torrez (a trade that Ron Guidry was initially part of until Gabe Paul brought George to his senses.)

I loved Jay Johnstone's book "Temporary Insanity" He was a true &0's flake. My favorite part of the book is the night at his instigation the team stole most of Tommy Lasorda's stuff from his locker. Then they had him case clues all over Los Angeles. When he was about 100 miles away from Dodger Stadium they had him add up the last three numbers he had encountered. They corresponded to the next locker over from his!
