macadamnut: RickyWilliams'sBong: It still baffles me that the Jets picked up Sparano to be their OC.

Well, the one strength on his resumé was that he pretty much owned the Jets.

I'm just hoping Sparano continues the Jets tradition and runs the ball 50 times against the best run defenses in the league, and has Sanchez throw 50 times against the leagues best secondaries.

The only question I have about the Jets season is whether Rex Ryan will be fired after 8 games, 12 games, or if he'll be fired at the end of the season.

snakepakos: That's right the 3rd string QB Greg McElroy. Greg will get his chance next game. He will score a TD! Why cause Broadway Joe say so! Tebow is there to put butts in seats, sell jerseys, and run the wild-kat.

I had fun with the Tebow thing last year & really gave the guy a chance, but man does he suck. You can't even tell if he threw it away or just missed that bad. Only 'big name' QB I've seen miss as bad as Tebow was Jamarcus Russell.

CHFF had the best tweet last week. (forgot the exact stats)
Tebow: 9 of 22, 90 yards, 4.3 YPA, 0 TD, 2 INT, 36 Passer rating. You get a 39 passer rating for going 0 for 22.

Treygreen13: Watching that game last night was painful, because you see Tebow in the 2-minute drill and you can just feel the announcers' pants tightening as they breathlessly narrate him hilariously blowing pass after pass and getting his awful "attempts" batted away by guys who will be bagging groceries in 2 weeks.

Why don't you want to give third year player Tim Tebow, who has received several starts and was basically obtained for free after little interest from the rest of the league, a chance?

I was wondering if there were any other Mcelroy fans out there. The guy was awesome in college, beat Tebow a few times, did pretty good last preseason until a really badly timed injury and hes being treated like an afterthought. I'd wager he'll score a few TDs once he gets his chance.

I'm fine with Tebow playing in the second half, just like any other backup. I was just irritated by the announcers. Especially after they couldn't even make it one full drive into Broncos/49ers before talking about Tebow.

They also had a graphic and discussed Strasburg in the 3rd quarter. Not joking.

Tickle Mittens: jayhawk88: This Jets season is like a Christmas present under the tree when you were 6 years old. You can't wait to open it, the anticipation is literally killing you, and you know that no matter what it ends up being, it will be glorious.

I've been shaking the box, I think it's socks.

See, but it's only socks if you're a Jets fan. Anyone else, it's a double-barreled crossbow that transforms into an XBox.

There's a factory in Cleveland that produces chocolate-covered Playstations, but everyone there calls it the Factory of Sadness. *shrug*

darch: Said it before, say it again- the Jets will NEVER win anything meaningful- does not matter one iota who the QB is, who the coach is- The entire organization is snakebitten and amateurish, from top to bottom. I'd bet that even the janitors who work for the Jets suck.

As a Bengals fan I whole-heartedly agree with this. Jets fans are so annoying because they refuse to admit this. At least Bengals fans know we don't have a serious chance until Mike Brown dies and the organization changes.
Cincinnati, Jets, Oakland and a few others are just behind as an organizations. The Patriots, Saints, Falcons have all been purchased or seriously reorganized in the last 15 years.

Cincinnati is at least trying, but they still have the smallest talent evaluation staff in the league.

darch: A good part of the reason I love every new NFL season is to listen to Jets fans spout off that "this is the year!" and season in, season out, watch the whole thing crumble like Thiesmann's lower leg.

They have their problems but this sounds weird to me for a team that doesn't have a top tier qb yet made the afc chamionship game in 2009 and 2010. They're in the press a lot for the wrong reasons - partly because of personnel and partly because they're in the big apple... but that's hardly the result I'd expect from an amateurish organization.

Like father, like son. All Ryans are good coordinators but suck as head coaches and cannot keep their mouths shut.

On the other hand having Rex as the Jets' coach is what they deserve.

one of my childhood highlights was having buddy throw a punch at jerry glanville. it was fantastic.

Generation_D: How's that Tebow working out for you?

They haven't figured out how to call plays using a burning bush yet, so he's behind on learning the offense.

flak attack: Anyone that saw Stephen Hill play at GT UCF should have seen this coming. I cannot tell you how m any easy drops he made last year.

FTFY. Hill can make some great catches, but he was well known around GT UCF for dropping way too many easy ones.

Odd, most Jets fans I know are of the same mind set as me. We mostly start the season pessimistic, then we make predictions about when they melt down. Those two years where they made the AFC championship were aberrations. I'm looking at starting the year with a thud, then imploding over the next 5 games, then finishing the year with 2 or 3 wins. If they manage to even keep pace with the Pats in either of their two games this year I'll be surprised.

I guess my low expectations all started with being a Mets fan first though. They win one to get you hooked, then they just break your heart for the rest of time.

/last years low expectations met
//lower expectations this year
///gleefully watch them burn because I'm evil

(full disclosure - Jets fan)

No TDs scored...

With Wayne Hunter starting 2 games, and letting the Panthers sack Tebow just as easily

With Holmes dropping passes that hit him in the chest, and running right through the end zone without even looking back on other plays (after the turnover near the end of the first half)

With Tim Tebow missing a wide open receiver at the pylon, throwing 5 yards short.

I want to believe them a little, but the final score Game 1 had better be a 3 or 4 TD win.

They're not snakebitten. They're poorly run by an owner who cares more about competing with the Giants for August ticket sales then building a good football team. Then changes directions every 4 years when things don't work out. Snakebitten implies bad luck.

If/when the Rex/Sanchez/Tebow show goes off the rails this year, the Jets will probably fire Rex, bring in a new coach, then go through three years of rebuilding before firing the new coach and rebuilding again.

The Panthers starting offense didn't look so hot either.

/I admit to being the only Panther fan watching last night.
//Offense is shiat without Steve Smith.

JohnBigBootay: There's still one guy like that, he's just not here yet. I don't know about Tebow - I don't doubt he's been working his ass off but from what I've seen this preseason his technique actually appears to have gotten worse.

Scoreboard biatch.

The disturbing thing, though, is that you can see the coach watching you REALLY closely when you open the gift and you know all he's thinking about is you taking off those socks...

Wow. Now I'm maximally creeped out. The image of an unshaven Rex Ryan leering at me from behind a terrible Christmas sweater, licking his lips as he stares at my feet is as disturbing as anything that can be found on somethingawful. My battle with insomnia has definately encountered a setback.
