I went to the driving range and got my 6 iron part way figured out. Still smoking my driver and hitting my sand wedge a touch heavy. So, that's 2-1 me.

Eat that, teenager

It's pretty crazy how much the Asians are dominating golf these days.

I guess it's really no surprise a sport designed around precision would have so many good Asians, but still.

Also that they are fully mature at 11, meaning that they have that many more good years in them. Michelle Wie was 6' when she was 9.

Japanese more than Chinese, but your point stands.

What I find curious is that in a country with essentially NO room for obscenely large golf courses, a love of golf has been fostered through technological means- VR courses/driving ranges, "cube stacked" ranges on top of high-rises, etc. What's next, some Caribbean island nation has some fantastically complicated winter sport team?

You think the sideways hoo-ha helps them line up their shot?

Most of the Asians dominating the LPGA are Korean, and they cheat.

Whether they cheat more than western golfers is an open question.

Wat.

I've only ever heard the opposite: that Asians grow much slower than Caucasians, but tend to continue growing up to an older age.

Actually South Koreans, and it probably doesn't have much to do with physique.

It's the basic 10,000 hours of focused practice, plus the mental toughness.

But she is special:

How many pro golfers lead by 1 shot after 3rd round, and then fall apart? She not only held it together, she put in her best round of the tournament. At age of 15.

Oh and she won the US Amateur a couple of weeks ago as well. No pressure.

I think this says more about the quality of play in the LPGA than it does about this kid's talent.

She has buckets of it, to be sure, but you would never see a 15 year old kid win in a PGA event.

Yes, but men vs. women isn't fair in the first place.

Man, too bad she's an amateur. She has to forego the winners check of $500 and a coffee at Tim Horton's.

Hey, hey...it's $2,000 and a coffee and a donut at Dunkin' Donuts.

This is great news because that means they'll be odds posted on her the next time she enters a tournament. I love betting on teenagers in sports; it makes me feel like a complete degenerate.

One online book had Japan -6.5 (at twenty cents) and I wish I could have bet it just for the fark of it all.

By the way, if anyone here wagers on football ... listen to me and bet your bankroll on vanderbilt +7 this Thursday. Trust me.

That wasn't a men vs women thing. I think he was saying that PGA players are vastly better than 99% of the superstar teenager types. On the WPGA side, the talent gap is much smaller.

This is true until a Tiger Woods comes along and shows them what's what.

Which is not mutually exclusive, because asians generally are shorter. So a 4'11" ten-year-old has grown slower than a 5'4" ten-year-old. But a 4'11" asian girl is 95% of mature height, whereas a 5'4" western girl is only 90% of mature height.

No doubt he's all of that and a terrible caddie to boot, but that doesn't excuse the cheating.

Couldn't identify his own players ball in the fairway? Really?

Tiger couldn't (and didn't win against PGA players at 15.

And even more on point, it's South Korean women. The South Korean men are not special in the golf world.
