If there was no tax benefit to having the Swiss and Cayman accounts... Why have them at all?

Are you kidding?

Have you seen the sweet-ass toasters and steak knife sets you get for opening an account?

Quality stuff, man.

HOLY FARK!! Seriously?? Mitt, you and everyone else knows THAT'S THE WHOLE POINT OF HAVING AN ACCOUNT THERE!

My "I can't believe he said that" meter just went off the charts.

Keep talking, Mitt.

"Being an out-of-touch-with-the-common-man golden boy is just what I am, pumpkin. You can't expect me to change who I am, can you? I mean, I could pretend I care about your well-being and I'd like to see you non-persons get healthcare and some guarantee that you'll be able to retire, but -- it just wouldn't be me. I really do care about my dressage horse more than I care about a factory full of exploited workers in China, and you're just going to have to accept that."

Yes, because hiding your money in off-shore and foreign bank accounts to avoid paying taxes on it is the "honest" thing that all "real Americans" do. You know, those "real Americans" who have enough money to be able to stash it overseas.

What a farking piece of shiat asswad. I probably could get harsher than that, but I'll wait until after his speech at the convention.

Presumptive Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney insists that he didn't shut down his tax shelters in the Cayman Islands, Bermuda and Switzerland because it would "avoid the truth" and he wasn't going to "manipulate my life" just to become president.

And Romney really expects people to believe this bullshiat? I mean our local shills will defend Romney because that's what they do...but not even our most ardent Republicans will actually believe this bullshiat.

I think the sad truth is that his voting base thinks a Swiss bank account is where you stash your hot cocoa sampler.

I don't think even our most blatant GOP shills actually believe Romney's lies. they'll defend him of course...and do their best to put as positive a spin on Team Romney as they can...but they don't actually believe him or put much stock in his statements.

2012-08-26 04:24:54 PM
I don't think even Romney believes his own lies at this point.

For a guy who does so much lying he is really bad at it.

2012-08-26 04:29:18 PM
Here is the thing- Romneys finances and taxes have now become a de rigueur topic for reporters when interviewing Romney. Much like Obamas association with Reverend Wright, the press will not let go of this until Romney does something dramatic to put it behind him, as Obama did with his speech renouncing Wright. Unfortunately for Romney, the only way to do it is to release his tax returns, which we can be pretty sure will create a whole other shiatstorm.

lolwut?

I guess they just had the most convenient ATMs, eh Mitt?

This story Romney has about his Swiss accounts seems to be full of holes. ^__^

/Cheesy joke is cheesy.

The guy's prudent. It would only make sense to close those accounts if thought he were going to be elected.

2012-08-26 04:44:32 PM
"But, I mean, I did live my life," he continued. "And I expect by virtue of disclosing all these things, people can take a look at it and see whether that's something they're comfortable with or not. I'm not going to try and hide who I am and try and manipulate my life to try and avoid the truth."

Huh? Did I miss his releasing the tax returns over the weekend?

I guess it must have. You gotta remember just how much oxygen Bachmann, Gingrich and Santorum can suck out of a room, though.

Come on, GOP. This is the best you could do? This guy? Even setting aside his inscrutable yet awful policy positions, he's not even a good politician. He's not even endearingly bad at politicking like Biden.

That's what he's assuming we believe I guess; he compared it to buying a Japanese car or investing in a company incorporated overseas. Because certainly the average person considers putting their money in a Swiss account the same way they consider buying a Honda at the dealership. Plus it's not like Switzerland and the Cayman Islands are renowned for high interest rates: it's all about being able to move the money around easily and how reluctant some banks in those countries are to disclose information to foreign authorities.

When you've gone to the trouble of having the account number embedded subcutaneously you don't just give up the account.

Besides, if he ever wants to travel again as David Webb he'll need that paperwork to be available.
