Enjoy it Southern California and Dodger family. Games on the radio have never been the same without Ernie.

2012-08-26 05:28:08 PM
He mentioned on the radio that he will probably call the away games at Yankee Stadium next year as well. That will be a treat

This is the greatest news.

2012-08-26 05:28:24 PM
Anyone know why he doesn't do the entire game on the radio and they switch to two other guys after the 3rd?

That's a TV simulcast.

Cool.

Hope you Dodger fans can afford bail next season so you can hear him.

Farmer John must be so proud.

I grew up listening to him. It's amazing that he's been the Dodger's broadcaster longer than I've been alive. I.R. Subby

This is the best deal they have made all year. He's awesome.

I find the home Dodger game highlights on a tablet just to hear him. I don't live in Dodger country.

I watch them online whenever I can as well. I'm not even a particularly big Dodgers fan, but that man is one of a kind. Vin Scully is truly a gift to the world, and the game will never be the same when he is no longer a part of it.

I listen to him through an AM radio as a child. I feel better just hearing his voice for some reason.

He said "if/when I call the games, it will be great, because it will bring back a lot of memories". Paraphrased, but that's the gist, including the if/when. He's leaning towards it, is what it sounded like.

Vin Scully is uncanny,He does not miss a beat.He is the most eloquent man
I have ever listened to.

"Andre Dawson has a bruised knee and is listed as day-to-day (pause). Aren't we all?" Mr. Scully 1991

What is it about baseball announcing that makes guys never, ever want to retire? Don't they ever want to kick back and drink boat drinks? They all seem to want to die on the mike.

It ain't work if you love what you're doing.

+1 for boat drinks

One more WS for Vin, just one is all I ask.

I would go to sleep at night with a xsistor radio under my blanket, staying up way past bedtime just to hear him. So many epic baseball moments, and memories. He's the only thing I still miss about not living in Cali.

Best baseball announcer ever.

There's a Vin Scully bobblehead night on the 30th. I wish I could go. :(

Vin Scully is now the Brett Favre of baseball.

Minus the douchebaggery and team cancer.

This news warms the cockles of this Giants fan's heart. Always bled Orange & Black, but Vin is the greatest announcer in baseball, period. I may hate the Blue Crew, but I've got nothing but love for Vin.

And the great taste of Farmer John bacon....

Lt. Cheese Weasel: One more WS for Vin, just one is all I ask.

So much this. McCarver said he'd step aside to let Vin do another WS via Fox Sports when the idea started getting batted around last year. What I'd love to see is McCarver & Buck both step aside for a year and let Vin and Bob Uecker call the World Series together. Let the last two legendary baseball announcers end their careers on a massive high note.

Marty Brenneman, of course, will be busy calling the Reds' victory on the radio.

/not that I'd mind Vin or Ueck

Wow, didn't realize Marty was still going. He deserves a final WS broadcast as well.

He is the best that I have ever heard and I really wish that baseball would get its' shiat straight so we wouldn't have to listen to Joe Buck or Tim McCarver call the World Series. It should always be Vin Scully. It should have always been Vin Scully. But, no, it's all run by idiots and morons who refuse to listen to the fans or any semblance of reason or logic.

I hope that the new ownership has paid him what the former ownership owed him. That was an unbelievable travesty, but the ever dignified Vin Scully never mentioned a word about not being paid.

So many great voices are gone, all the ones I grew up with; Vince Lloyd, Lou Boudreau, Jack Brickhouse, Harry Caray, Jack Buck, Ernie Harwell, Harry Callas, Dave Niehaus... and I'm sure I'm missing so many... Vin Scully is the last of his kind. Enjoy him.

2012-08-27 05:10:33 AM
I'm a Giants fan through and through but Vin Scully is amazing. I just wish that we could collect his DNA and make new Vin Scully clones. Then we can fire every awful broadcaster from every sport imaginable and replace that person with the clone.

That will be awesome. Much respect for Vin, and one of the fondest memories of my childhood remains listening to him and Joe Garagiola calling the NBC Game of the Week on summer Saturday afternoons.
