Friends don't let friends count fat calories.

Count carbs.

Some of those meals aren't horrible so long as you throw away the buns or order the high fat dressings and not the zero fat high carb dressings and don't drink the aspartame soda.

I'll have your sugar. I love it. I'm having sugar, sugar, sugar, sugar, sugar, baked beans and sugar!

Oh good, I'm glad someone from the Cult of NoCarbs showed up to tell everyone exactly the best way to nourish their bodies.

2012-08-26 05:38:30 PM
I don't know, I've been skinny all my life and that brought about its own problems like getting my ass kicked until high school, until I learned how to fight. Not that I'm not above an ass beating but anyway. That doesn't mean that fat people can't learn that all they have to do is eat better food and move around.

MacEnvy: Oh good, I'm glad someone from the Cult of NoCarbs showed up to tell everyone exactly the best way to nourish their bodies.

Yeah, I find it kind of impossible to believe that the worst part of a Big Mac is the bun.

People beat you up because you were skinny or because you deserved an ass-kicking and happened to be skinny?

The worst I ever got was being called "that flat chick".

If you're counting calories maybe you should just avoid fast food?

Well a little from column A, a little from column B

It looks weird, makes me feel weirder, but if you order the appropriate items, and toss away the buns, don't order fries, etc., you can do okay, and so on days when I have to, or get the urge, I'll order a Jr. Whopper, Doublestack, etc., and toss out the bun.

If you ask, sometimes they'll surround them with lettuce. Wendy's embarasses me, because they do a great job of putting it on lettuce, looks fantastic, but then they put it in a horrible plastic shell which will not be recycled, and so I am forced to eat that too. :(

Why would I get fast food and limit myself too 500 calories?

I almost never eat fast food so when I do, I get piggy with it.

This is truth. I also wonder about people on low-sodium diets demanding that there should be no salt on the french fries. Really? Let's see... you are on a special restricted diet going to a fast food place to order greasy fries and other junk? But want it a certain way for your particular needs, so demand that everyone follows the same from the assembly line food processor? yeesh.

I travel alot for work and have become (somewhat) obsessed with trying to eat decently when I'm going to restaurants all the time.

It's actually not impossible to keep the calories down. At a sit-down restaurant, I always stick with a meat and vegetables type of entree and avoid drinking alcohol. When I have to get fast food, I go with the Fresco menu at Taco Bell or a couple of things on the dollar menu at McD's. Unfortunately, the one thing that's unavoidable is the sodium, so that's the real kicker IMO.

// Yeah, I'm a pretty boring person to travel with (at least when I'm working)

Carl Jr, low-carb burger. Gough, Gough II, and Gough III are gluten-sensitive and the low-carb diet, nonsense or not, has been a boon to the three of them.

When a web site like MSN can't handle basic grammar like fewer than 500 calories who's counting?

2012-08-26 08:07:17 PM
Oh boy, here we go again with the fallacy that fast food is bad for you. Eat what you want, if you are fat, or loaded with high cholesterol and die, it's because God loves you and wants you back in the Kingdom of Heaven a little sooner than the rest of us.
It's not your fault.

Weight yourself and weigh your food. Only eat (in weight) the amount you have lost since the day before.

You will lose weight like crazy. Keep your fluids up, though. Water needs to be passing through your system in order to keep up with the fat burning.

2012-08-26 08:09:10 PM
If you're worried about calories why would you ever eat fast food?

2012-08-26 08:10:23 PM
Ahh, the list of things I should avoid. I'll have the high-carb greaseburger, with a side of salted carbs and a large liquid sugar.

Calories are a unit of measurement (like inches and millimeters), not counting (like dozens or hundreds). "Less" works. "Fewer" does not.

I admire your interest in choosing the correct word, however.

Me too. Of course, I was a chubby boy. I have to say, the popular kids at my school were pretty good at what they did. Sophisticated, you know? Works on several different levels.

Do you have to include the glass bottle the beer comes in, or can you weigh an empty bottle and subtract what that weighs from the full bottle's total weight?

Unless you're eating the glass, only the stuff inside the bottle counts.

If you're eating the glass, weight loss might not be your biggest problem.

For the proper body type, count...protein.

A ton of protein + a fitting amount of carbs to utilize it + serious exercise = everything working right.

Out of curiosity, why? I was under the impression that calories are what contribute to obesity and weight gain, not carbs.

I am just going to go out on a limb and suggest that link was paid for, Ugh.

Ah the 80s. Smaller drinks and styrofoam containers.

Respectfully disagree: the focus in this case is quite literally counting calories (as seen in the headline). "Fewer" works. "Less" does not.

Checked the one for KFC because I work at KFC in Canada. None of those options are available here. We have mini breast filets instead of strips, and no green beans or corn on cob. We have niblets corn, made from frozen.

Superior to someone who believes removing the salt from their fries will help them cut down on their sodium, while ignoring the stuff in the rest of the meal? Sure, if only in knowledge.
Personally, the few times I eat fast food anymore, I go all out. In the winter up here you can get a second quarter-pounder for a price in cents equal to the previous day's temperature at noon. That means free a lot of times.

Englebert Slaptyback: the focus in this case is quite literally counting calories (as seen in the headline). "Fewer" works. "Less" does not.

By tradition we call it "counting calories", but that is not what we actually do.

We don't say "one calorie, two calories, three calories" and so forth. We add quantities of calories. Each quantity is, by tradition, expressed as an integer, but that is not because, say, a fast food place counted out 230 little calories from a calorie bottle and added them to the bun they were preparing for you. It's an estimate. If our estimating were precise enough, it could go to fractions of a calorie in that bun. (It varies from bun to bun, of course, but that does not relate to the point.)

Don't believe everything these so-called nutritionists have been telling "you" for years.
