Japanese metal at its finest.

/Akira Takasaki has great guitar tone - it ranks up there with Jake E. Lee

I'm not a fan of this band, but someone here might like them. Sex Machineguns.

Agree bigbabysurfer....

except this was the jam:

Shadows of War/Ashes in the Sky

Akira Takasaki is a guitar freak....

Japan is actually quite the hotbed of Shoegaze these days. I keep trying to get a Sunday Shoegazer link greenlit, to no avail.

Here's Civic's "Guitar," which is on the crunchy end of gaze, so you metalheads might not hate it. Skip the first 1:20 or so of walking=on-stage techno.

As awesome as Metalucifer is, the best Japanese band is probably Sabbat.

Sounds like a polka beat.

Also, I've been shamefully avoiding Deceased for way too long. Always thought they were a generic Suffo clone, but they're actually f*cking amazing.

Agreed. But speaking of Japanese bands, do you remember a band you rec'd a long time ago that was a two maybe three piece that had a girl on keyboards (I think?) and were pretty spastic? I think they were in a small room in the video. It was a long time ago so I'm pretty fuzzy.

That would be the jazz/punk band Midori. As you said, they're spastic as f*ck, but they're great because of it.

That's the one. Yeah. I like them.

I've been digging through some old stuff recently -

Psychic Possessor - Toxin Diffusion

Schizo - Threshold of Pain

Panzerchrist - Winterlands

Baphomets Horns - Satanic War Command (this puts the fun in Funeral F*ck)

Uncelestial - Werewolf Winter (got damm!)

/Metalucifer is excellent.

My hat's off to you for posting so much stuff every week. My other hat's also off to you for posting so much variety as well. On this last point, I'm curious: is there actually one death metal band, one doom, one black (and so on) effectively releasing a studio-quality recording every week?

I know the metal community is surprisingly humongous, but are there truly that many new upstarts writing and recording something of quality, or are the players big and small really just that active, or what?

I added these albums to the collection today:

Abigor - Fractal Possession
Absu - Tara
Kowloon Walled City - Gambling on the Richter Scale
Lord Mantis - Pervertor
Melechesh - Emissaries
Oakhelm - Echtra
Ophthalamia - A Journey in Darkness
Sigh - Hangman's Hymn

Looking forward to all of these. Especially Lord Mantis.

Thanks man. Not everything I post is new, of course; I post old stuff sometimes, and lots of stuff that's not exactly new that I happened to just find recently.

I don't know if the good releases are that regular, but just so far this year, Encyclopaedia Metallum has over 3000 full length releases listed (to say nothing of splits, EPs, demos, etc.; their advanced search is pretty good). A lot of them are certainly garbage, and that total includes lots of genres I don't pay much attention to, but that still leaves a lot of music to track down and enjoy.

Some more great stuff from Japan:
Dir En Grey: Vinushka NSFW
Effigy: Dictator Crustpunk from Takamatsu, Kagawa
Disclose: Massacred People More Crustpunk from Kochi
Corrupted: El Mundo Frio Sludgepunk/Metal (song's over 1 hour long)
Got to see them all live. Some of the best shows I've ever seen.

Seriously. That band SUCKS.

That album just missed my top 25 last year (but made my top 32). Great stuff.

Sorrowseed - gothic/black metal out of Massachusetts. YMMV but I liked what I've heard - almost has a Ludicra vibe.

Taking instrumental metal recs - full albums, not single songs. Ive devoured a lot of what Spotify has to offer and I'm looking for more...

of course, most of what's new will not touch the classics of old...
