Subby thinks Gates still deals with day to day stuff like logos at Microsoft.

Wait till he finds out Steve Jobs died.

The people in this article take this way, way too seriously.

The average consumer won't notice the change, and will vaguely think that was the logo all along.

It's not a bad logo. It's clean, simple, works in small sizes and large. And the color squares hint at the new Windows 8/Windows Phone 8/XBOX interface focus quite effectively.

I don't see what's so bad about it. It's nothing flashy but it's not supposed to be flashy.

I love the new logo. To me it represents what I think is the best thing in Metro: the absence of over-effected visual design.

It's simple, elegant. No glitter, no fading, no shadows, no rounded corners, no BS.

The new MS logo is awesome. Eat it, haters.

dickfreckle: rocky_howard: That's never been Microsoft's appeal. I use their products because they work and are dependable and ubiquitous. Sorry, if you're getting blue screens everyday blame your hardware and/or yourself.

Nobody believes me when I tell them this, but the only BSOD I've ever had in, I dunno, 15 years of using Windows daily was due to a HDD failure. You know, the same failure that happens regardless of OS. I don't know why BSOD is such a go-to point of mockery for fanboys, but I never get them. I don't get viruses either, even when I don't run AV.

I'm no genius. I'm savvy enough to build my own box with Newegg parts, but anyone who ever replaced the alternator on a car can do that, these days. If your Windows machine is constantly f*cking with you, it's 90% likely your own fault, or a hardware failure that can happen to anyone.

That's what I'm saying. If you're a dumb user it's not my fault nor the OS's. I don't install bullshiat toolbars, I read carefully through each installation screen so I don't end up adding stuff I don't want, I don't have a voracious appetite to consume media/software just because it exists. If it's not in my trusted sources, I just don't use/consume it. I don't know what's with some people that they absolutely need to download every software/movie/game out there. Whatever happened to have farking restraint?

I think the logo perfectly captures the essence of Microsoft. Bland, predictable, and slightly disappointing.

Logo hipsters are one of the worst. The only people worse than they are are the FONT hipsters.

/seriously, it's just an f'ing logo. who cares.

Do these people really think the success or failure of Microsoft depends on a shiatty logo?

WHO THE fark CARES ABOUT LOGOS? Especially in regards to Microsoft.

We're not talking about Nike sneakers or the Apple logo or the CocaCola shiat. Those companies sell a bullshiat "experience" and ride out on image alone.

That's never been Microsoft's appeal. I use their products because they work and are dependable and ubiquitous. Sorry, if you're getting blue screens everyday blame your hardware and/or yourself.

I honestly thought the "new" logo was the old logo, and wondered why they weren't showing the new logo.

4 colored squares. Welcome to 1993, MSoft...

/had my first BSOD since switching to 7 last night, think it was heat related, marathon gaming session and the 4 of 6 working fans in my case were all set to low
//need to replace my fans..

Heat related problems usually just lock a machine up - you don't get a BSOD, it just farking stops working altogether.

BSODs are almost always driver related, so let me introduce you to the best free tool you'll ever use: WhoCrashed. All it does is run through your memory dumps after a BSOD and it tells you exactly what device driver caused the BSOD. If the cause actually is hardware related, you'll know which piece of hardware is going to shiat.

The only thing it doesn't tell you is if something is tripping up the device driver. A poorly programmed piece of software might make your video card driver cause a BSOD, but the tool won't tell you that. Still, it's a great way to start narrowing down the problem.
