I'm happy that this has turned into a Monkees thread. I'm even happier that Peter, Micky, and Mike are coming to Santa Barbara in November.

/No disrespect to the dead, but Davy was my least favorite anyway.

One of my favorite Monkees songs. :)

And this still-cool Monkees video was ahead of its time.

I wonder if Papa Nez would have been involved in this latest tour if Davy were still alive? It seems like there could never be more than three Monkees involved in a tour at one time.

oldest sister lives in Pleasant Valley NY. she went to get her car washed at a small automatic place, there is a chain of them in the area. they 'scanned' her automobiles inspection sticker. WTF? she asks politely. "checking for stolen cars" she was told. holy crap on a cracker.

No heartaches felt, no longer lonely,
Nights of waiting finally won me
Happiness that's all rolled up in you,
And now, with you as inspiration,
I look toward a destination,
Sunny, bright that once before were blue.

I have no more than I did before,
But, now I've got all that I need,
For I love you and I know you love me.

So take my hand, I'll start my journey
Free from all the helpless worry
That besets a man when he's alone,
For strength is mine when we're together,
And with you I know I'll never
Have to pass the high road for the low.

I have no more than I did before,
But, now I've got all that I need,
For I love you and I know you love me.

Play, magic fingers!
SOLO
Yee-ha!
Ohhh, pick it, Luther!

I have no more than I did before,
But, now I've got all that I need,
For I love you and I know you love me,
Yes, I love you and I know you love me.

When confronted with a mystery, always choose the explanation for which the lack of evidence is not a burden: aliens, or a secret military project.

See, if there's no evidence whatsoever of a connection to a secret military project, it must BE a secret military project. Well, if there were evidence that it might be a top-secret military project, clearly it's NOT, because they don't leave bits of evidence like that lying around.

Floatin' down the river
With a saturated liver
And I wish I could forgive her
But I do believe she meant it
When she told me to forget it
And I bet she will regret it
When they find me in the morning wet and drowned
And the word gets 'round
Goin' down
Goin' down

They may have been the world's first prefab pop band built by record producers to sell records to a teen demographic, but damn if I don't absolutely love the shiat out of the Monkees.

And Goin' Down is probably one of the greatest songs ever written. That shiat ain't for kids.

And Micky Dolanz was by far my favorite member.

And at 33, I'm supposed to be waaaaaaaaaay too young to love them.

Probably something minor, like vast amounts of trapped subterranean gas being blown out into the air in preparation for a catastrophically powerful earthquake.

The Monkees ROCK. Always dug the show on Saturday morning when I was a kid. Still have several albums, which I play occasionally.

What a BOOM! I've never felt this way before!
You fool, it was not the BOOM, it was the magic necklace...
What a necklace! I've never felt this way before

/ I was one of those 80s monkees fans and enjoyed seeing them live a few times when they were doing the reunions and that so-very-80s-sounding new release...it imprinted on my daughter. Last summer we were tickled to take her down and see them at the casino only a few (?) shows before they canceled the rest of the tour. It was on her bucket list and the hotel had a limo shuttle so it was one of her best days evar.
I'm kinda bummed that there aren't any dates close enough on this new Mike-riddled tour; I've never seen him play live in any capacity and that would be cool.

If I remember, there was a huge knock on the Monkees because they were put together by a television network and grew not from a traditional, grass roots scenario

Yep. And they didn't play their own instruments, either!

Seems kind of stupid now when you consider that Brian Wilson was constructing Pet Sounds while the rest of the Beach Boys were off touring, and The Monkees were using the same pool of songwriters that most every other popular act were using.

Not really... you're in the '80s group that would have found them because of MTV.
