No. He was taxed on the value of the asset on the day he renounced his citizenship. No do-overs.

I don't really care that he did it - he is not American by birth but did find shelter here when things got dicey in Brazil. Now that he's at least doubled his tax liability I think it's funny.

When you're that rich, anywhere is paradise.

Meh. He's still filthy rich and although he couldn't dodge a tax bill, you still can't trick me into rooting for the IRS. The tax code has loopholes big enough for any corporation to get out of paying their fair share of taxes, while the rest of us have to pay up or else.

100 billion minus 10 billion equals 90 billion.

Do you really think he cares?

Look, for the last freaking time, Facebook was a speculation stock. None of these guys put in anything more than they could afford to lose without shedding a tear. For some, like Bono and Saverin, that was a farking shiatload of money...to us. But not to them. To them it was no more than a couple car payments are to us. They don't have to change their lifestyles for losing it. They don't have to drink one less bottle of Lafite because of it. It is nothing to them, and they will do the same thing tomorrow with a different spec stock. So get over the obsession with farking Facebook already. It is over. Go home. Go.

Let us recall that the tax laws are not produced by the IRS. As collection agencies go, the IRS is not so bad.

It's very rare to meet up with people who have actually suffered directly from aholes like Romney. I am just so thankful Bush wasn't able to privatize Social Security before he allowed trillions to be transferred from the many to the few. SS would have been the mother lode.

Yes and no. On the one hand it would have been kind of amusing to see the looks on the herper-derper crowd faces after getting their money from the dern gub'vment only to watch it disappear when the market tanked. OTOH society would still have to help them out in the end

Ah, but did he renouce his citizenship to save money by tax dodging, or did he do it to avoid prosecution for tax dodging? I'd say more the latter than the former, or he would have done it before the laws were changed to make it easier to prosecute people for using off-shore accounts to avoid paying taxes. So I'm still good here.
