Funny thing tardmitter- I don't see anything in that ad about "lifetime Republican" And since the woman you idiots are all in a lather over became a Democrat in 2006, We can assume she was a Republican up until then.

2012-08-25 02:14:22 PM
So something like "Jews Evangelical Christian Liars for Jesus"?

2012-08-25 02:36:57 PM
Wouldn't matter anyway because the majority of people in adds are two types:

Either professional actors - preferably from the region the ads will play in for proper accent.
Someone presently in the political party who is tapped to represent the candidate. This is usually someone who is from the local region as well.

Because it's a commercial and they are actors they can act like anyone they want.

Also, one can register as a Democrat and still vote Republican (and vice versa).

Maybe, but you're still the ones stuck with Romney.

Hey, NRO--are you espousing truthful political ads now? If so, you've got a lot of watchdogging to catch up on.

When you have failed as largely as Obama has, you have to resort to lies and distortions in lieu of running on your record.

/ Mitt Romney gave his ex employee's wife terminal cancer

Ed Finnerty: Maybe, but you're still the ones stuck with Romney.

No doubt.

Romney's probably already had more liberal positions that that woman ever will.

Romney outright lies about Obama's actions in his ads, Obama hires actors who may not actually fulfill all the qualities that are implied about their characters in his ads. See, they are both totally equal and therefore you have no reason to not vote for Romney.

I was gonna say. I've been a "lifetime Republican," but the GOP has gone so full derp that I just don't do straight-ticket voting anymore. Haven't since 2004.

They'll probably just pull out the standard Democrat defense of "not intended to be a factual statement".

To be honest, I'm OK with Romney's record as governor of Massachusetts. I do feel uneasy about the Bain thing, but that was his JOB: to make the shareholders money. The thing that bothers me is that he can do one thing one day, then say something completely different the next. So, it makes me very difficult to trust him.

He's also not very personable. I realize he may have great ideas to fix the economy, but if he lacks the charisma to win people over, it ain't gonna matter for shiat. Same goes with foreign relations, and we've already seen what a wunderkind he is in that field. :-/

I'm a Republican, and I'm not bothered by this at all. It's a political ad. Of course it's lying. Every single political ad you'll ever watch consists mostly of people lying to you. If either party were fully honest, they'd be blown out of the water by a 3rd party that formed within a week.

So ZOMG!! the Democrats didn't go out and find an actual "lifetime Republican" for their ad, but got some to play one on TV?

Someone needs to explain to this biatch how filming an ad actually works. Next she'll be outraged that William Peterson isn't REALLY a world-renowned entomologist and forensic scientist and Sly Stallone isn't actually a Vietnam vet who kills cops in small ruraltowns.

2012-08-25 08:41:42 PM
The only limit on how brazen a political lie can be is what a politician or party thinks they can get away with.

Plausible lie: "I've always supported the GOP, but they're just so misogynistic now that I endorse Obama!"
Plausible lie: "I'm a loyal Democrat, but Obama is so hostile to America that I support Romney!"

Mildly plausible lie: "There are a lot of gaps in Romney's tax record. He probably didn't pay any!"
Mildly plausible lie: "Obama was raised around Muslims. He probably adopted Christianity for political purposes!"

Implausible lie: "Romney set in motion a plot to kill a woman!"
Implausible lie: "Obama is secretly French!"

Two points:

1) We desperately need to change the rules so that political parties and politicians find it more rewarding to be honest than to lie.
2) Both parties and major party presidential candidates lie. The problem is that the Democrats and Obama lie primarily with half-truths, but the GOP and Romney primarily walk around with their pants on fire.

You notice how one is quantifiable (Akin, personhood amendments, anti-woman legislation), and one is so vague it can't be defined in any farking way?

What's hilarious about this is that you're distorting something you are calling a distortion. It's so meta!

When all someone has is 30 years of failed policy bringing the US to near collapse, the only tools they have left is lies and distortion about the other side's policies.

/Lies, distortion and an almost fanatical devotion to projection.

I'm surprised there are so many anti-Obama threads when it seems like most people here support Obama. I don't see this ad as a fail. The Obamaville ad was a fail! The fear that he was going to turn us all Muslim was a fail. Lots of crazy from the republican side of things. Can't wait for this election to be over. I want to stop hearing derp like "We need to get somebody who looks American in the white house." Because American only look like rich white guys I guess?
